Watching the Seahawks and Rams while my 2 favorite prospects from last years draft start on both sides of the ball.
**please note, I'm very happy with Dez**
Earl Thomas on the Seahawks side of the ball on defense and possibly my 2nd most favorite prospect who anyone who was here last year would remember me having a man crush on, Rodger Saffold at LT for St. Louis.
Got me to thinking. Hot damn, still two of our biggest needs! Not so much LT as OT in general but you get the point.
Outside of Patrick Peterson there is no Earl Thomas in Round 1 of this draft and if you listen to Jerry they seem to be happy with their young Safeties.
Now we need fixing at Safety (unless you take Jerry at face value), CB, DE, OG, OT, NT(depending on who you ask) and Kicker.
Well we can throw kicker out the window. Unless Al Davis takes over our draft we are not likely selecting a kicker in round 1 let alone at all.
I HIGHLY doubt your going to see a NT drafted in the 1st 4 rounds. The Cowboys are pleased with Ratliff and they have a host of young players they like and I must say I was rather pleased with as well when they got a chance to play.
No one selects a OG in the 1st 10 picks, throw that out the window as well.
We are now left with CB, DE and OT
In the grand scheme of things put yourself in Jerry's shoes for a minute. Your paying a 1st round veteran price for Newman(sorry folks he's not going anywhere), a first round price tag for Jenkins(also sorry, he's not going anywhere although unless Dallas changes defense schemes he might as well) and you have Orlando Scandrick who seems to be the Corey Proctor of the defensive backs. The staff loves him but it's hard as a fan to see why. Bottom line, Unless Price or Peterson fall the odds of taking a CB are not strong.
That leaves 2, OT and DE.
Ironically enough, where we are picking it's also where the value in the draft lies.
JJ Watt
Robert Quinn
Da'Quan Bowers
Adrian Clayborn
Cameron Jordan
Ryan Kerrigan
and now that I wasted your time with names, Jerry controls his own fate at DE. Spears can be resigned and probably at a friendly number considering he did not have the most productive contract year. Bowen has been a pleasant surprise and can be brought back at a friendly number. Hatcher can be back. Igor is under contract. Yes, we all have issues with each one of them but you cant have a steak on every plate and to be honest. If Spears is brought back and we bring in a young DE to push the Vets in a later round. I would be fine with that.
Now we are back at OT. In my world (as explained above) it appears I need to find my next Rodger Saffold.
His name is Gabe Carimi and how happy will he be when he is reunited with Paul Chryst.
**Check back next week, this will probably all change**
