So how do you use Clark?

He's a better 3 than a nose.

Do we play him out of position to keep Osa and his mediocrity on the field or did we just pay 20 million a year for a backup 3?

I find this fit troubling.
He’s 6’3” and 313 lbs…3 pro bowls, only 29. Great players stop the run. You don’t need a fat nose to stop the run when your tackles draw double teams and make plays in the backfield. Our best defenses prior to Parcells and the 3-4 never had a nose tackle.

The 1T in an Eberflus defense will play sort of like a 3T instead of the stereotypical trash can full of dirt that people want as a 1T. Whoever gets snaps inside will likely be expected to shoot gaps and slant heavily on run downs. I wouldn't be surprised if they spread these DTs out a bit and run some 22 looks which could confuse the offense as they wont know whos the A gap player and whos the B gap player. Still a significant downgrade from having Micah Parsons on you defense, but I think this does give Eberflus some opportunity to get creative schematically on the inside.

  • Overall PFF rating of 59.3—generally considered “average” for starters Packers Forum.
  • Pass‑rush performance: Modest—middle of the pack with lower sack and pressure totals than in prior seasons.
  • Run defense: Slightly below-average but with marginal improvement in tackle depth.
  • SI Report Card: Gave him a “Grade: F”—not necessarily reflecting play quality, but highlighting a performance underwhelming relative to his high salary cap costSI+2FTN Fantasy+2.

Final Assessment

Clark’s 2024 PFF-based evaluation paints a picture of an average to slightly underwhelming year at a position where he typically set expectations higher. While not a poor performance in raw metrics, his output fell significantly short of what would be expected from a high-paid, cornerstone defensive tackle.

With context, average or above average is an immediate starter. There is no scenario where he doesn’t make the cowboys better

It's easy. He sits behind Osa. Mazi is our 1. Can't have enough depth.
