Barber always had bad vision but he compensated for it by running over what was in his way. In all honesty, he has always gained most of his yards through large, gaping holes. He was able to exploit defenses that pursued aggressively with this jump step to the outside and gained lots of yards that way. He also gained lots of yards running through big holes up the middle on the draw. In the end, he is really mostly a complimentary back who managed to put up big numbers due to an unusual running style that the league took a little while to get used to.

He is now a JAG - a $8M/yr JAG.

Most of those gaping holes he was running through were against winded defenses later in games. His numbers just don't stack up with most starting RB's in the league. Defenses can just crowd the line against him because they don't fear the 70+ yard dash to the endzone they do with Felix. Barber's had a difficult time the last 2 seasons getting over injuries. He's just not very affective unless he's 100%. He goes down alot easier than he did prior to his starting gig. It's pretty clear his aggressive billy goat running style is starting to show its affects on him.

Felix will see over double the amount of carries as barber. Book it.

I agree. I think it's all part of the game plan.

I see no reason to start Barber. He's much better coming off the bench, not to mention Felix is tearing it up lately.

Yes, and while we won those games it was mostly due to the defensive effort. The offense only averaged 22 ppg and was very mediocre from the scoring POV. I'll readily admit that we were good at chewing up the clock but that was more due to Romo than Barber.

Yeah. Ok, the offense was mediocre

When Felix came in against Philly we put up 34 even though the pass and run blocking were worse.

Huh? It was worse? Dude, do you even watch the games?

Felix makes a big difference when he is out there. There is no point in limiting him to 10 carries like we did in much of the second half of the season.

He's set career highs in carries in 3 of the last 4 games. (14, 15, 16) And he's also added 9 receptions in that span. This doesnt count two or three significant plays that were wiped out by very questionable penalties.

He has got some of his burst back finally and is getting stronger every week. I'll just give this board a reminder of where he was when he got injured.

Gee, you think the injury might be one of the reasons he was limited for alot of this year?

Its just amazing with some of you. You'll complain about anything just to have something to complain about.

Why do we cares so much about who starts?

Becasue if Barber runs like he did last week, it's a pisspoor way to start the game - a game where I think it's important to jump on the lead early and force them to throw.

It's unreal isn't it? I still have my doubts (for lack of a better word) but I'm going to keep those doubts to myself for now. This team and staff have past my expectations this season, I'm going with the they know better than I do scenario.;) If they think Barber will be effective, that's all well and good.
If he isn't doing well they simply switch to Felix. I don't understand the big deal. It's like the Free/Colombo arguments last week.

I think that worked out just fine.

mediocre in points scored - definitely. right in the middle of the pack on that statistic which is the most important statistic there is. there is no other aspect of offensive performance that is correlated to wins as points scored for obvious reasons.

I know that he has set career highs recently but early in the season when he was ripping teams for over 9 ypc he was getting less than 10 carries/game back then too. Garrett likes to run Barber a lot when he has him around and it is to the overall detriment of the team given how much Barber has regressed as a player this year compared to 2007.

Gee, you think the injury might be one of the reasons he was limited for alot of this year?

Yes, that was a big factor in the second half of the season up until the Washington game when he really started to look comfortable out there. My point is that he was underutilized early in the year before his injury. At this time of the year, he should be a 20 carry/game back IMO. We got the Eagles tamed early last week so we wisely let Choice get a bunch of carries once the victory was secured.

Look, if Felix gets his carries and Barber is effective then I've got no beef with what Garrett is doing. I just want to jump out ahead of Minnesota early which means you hit them with your best shot right out of the gate. This has been a big part of our success lately is we have gotten a lead and then set Ware and Spencer after the QB. Since Felix is so much more of a threat than Barber we are more likely to score early in the game if he is the one in the backfield. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

"Geez, dude, did you even watch the game" - you are so condescending in your posts.

I want us to Minnesota with our best weapons and plays right out of the box. They are afraid of us. If we get on them it will take the crowd out of the game and put doubt in their heads.

Barber will be hyped tomorrow, he is playing in front of a home crowd for him. We might even see the Barber of old.

I would much rather see the Barber of old than the old of Barber :)

And you don't think Phillips, JG, JJ and even Barber isn't thinking the same thing?

Then why start Barber? Are you arguing that he is playing better than Felix?

Not at all, what I'm saying is this coaching staff will start who they think
is going to be the best back to start. I'm ok if they decided Choice was the best back to start.

We are in our biggest game in friggin years, I'm not going to complain about who the starting RB is. We got here with all of them. We can keep going with all of them.

This is why I ask if you've even been watching the games. They've been using a totally different rotation the last 4 or 5 weeks, one not based on "series" for one guy over another. Jones will almost assuredly get in the game on the first series. In fact I dont remember many extended offensive series' the last few weeks where he hasnt been on the field for at least 1 or 2 of the plays.

I'm quite sure if Barber appears to be struggling, he'll end up being a cheerleader just as he was last week. On the other hand if he's healthy he can definitely contribute. He's an excellent blocker and very good outlet receiver.

Who cares who starts? In the end, the Vikings will know what it means to be haunted by the 3-headed monster.

Get some!

I do know that we are a better team with a healthy Barber. We are trying to run 30+ times a game lately to control the clock against all the explosive offenses. That means you need more than one back to carry the load. Right now with Choice a little dinged up (concussions are not a small injury) we could really use Barber giving us a good 10 carries. I do recognize his abilities as a complete back as well and I know that when he is running with physicality (like in the NO game) he sets a tone for the entire team. I don't hate the guy - I do think he is overpaid and is not a primary elite back. He is a complimentary guy who can give the club energy and can close out games against tired teams very well in the second half.

I just want to jump out on the Vikings quickly. We need to pass downfield effectively to do that. I think we are better doing that with Felix in the game as he forces the safety to hold their positions a tick longer on play action and that should give RW and Austin a chance to get behind them.

Anyhow, let's not bicker on game day too much.

Go Cowboys. :)

Babe said on his pregame show to expect a heavy dose of Felix. He implied MBIII was not completely healthy.
