Here are the current NFC EAST standings as of April 22, 2009:

Cowboys 0-0-0
Eagles 0-0-0
Giants 0-0-0
Commanders 0-0-0

I will answer your question when actual games are played.....

My problem with this line of thinking is that, I can understand putting the Eagles ahead of us because of the last game, which you might be too short sighted to look past. But why the Giants?

Aren't they the only team we beat in the dreaded December month? With Romo having a bad back, and still rusty? You'll say they had no Jacobs. Well, we had no Barber or Felix

I am not bashing anyone. Just giving my opinion.

1. The team that quit in that 44-6 is mostly intact. That is a hard mental picture to erase (at least for me)
2. Wade is still head coach
3. Eagles made good moves to replenish o-line. They peak in december where we fade. Didn't they play in the NFC Championship last year???
4. Giants have a formidable d-line.
5. I fear this is the year Flozell shows his age
6. I am not saying they are 5-11 bad. I think they are average or slightly above.

Flozell showed his age last year...the boys need to spend at least 4 of the picks on offensive lineman. Say one each round starting in 4th.

Since they both finished ahead of us last yr, and we lost to Philly badly in a game the entire franchise mailed it in on, yeah.

But I do think we're still more talented from player 1-53 than both of them are, and I do think we'll win the division this yr if the key guys stay healthy.

And I think we'll be more than "slightly" ahead of Washington, which I think might be in for a nosedive season.

I would say NY and Philly are slightly ahead of us, Philly was 9-6-1 and we split the 2 games with them as well as splitting the 2 games with the NYG

Without a #1 WR I don't see how the Giants are clearly above us and frankly I don't see how Philly is clearly above us either.

I know everyone is going by the last image of last year but just going by the rosters then, no, I don't think either of those two are clearly above us. Yes you could put them there, for sure, but I think people could just as easily put Dallas at the top of the division based on this speculation stuff.

We'll have to see how the draft plays out and any lingering FA pick ups after the draft before it's possible to say whose got the early advantage.

I really think we're bunched fairly tightly together, but yes, I would put both the Eagles and Giants just slightly ahead of us on April 22, 2009.

We'll see how the season goes though!

That was not a team that quit in the 44-6 game in Philly, that was a group of 53 different players all playing in the same uniform. The players that largely divided the locker room (TO, Pacman, Tank Johnson) are gone. And if you listen to people who are around the Cowboys and the players you hear that they are a TEAM this year.

2. Wade is still head coach

I still feel that Wade Phillips gets a bad rap as a coach. What I do know is that neither Buffalo or Denver improved the year after he left, but infact both had worse records. And I would also argue that in both cases, he took teams to the playoffs that had no business even being in the playoffs.

Wade Phillips takes the approach of not being the hard nose dictator as the HC, that some think is needed, but the truth is, that BOTH types of coaches HAVE had success in the NFL, and won Super Bowls. Tony Dungi was every bit the mister nice guy that Wade Phillips is, and he was a great coach as well.

People also hate Wade Phillips because he doesn't say the things that they want him to say, but he is the son of a coach and has been around Coaching all his life. He has mastered the art of coach speak, it is all he knows. The truth be known, the next time ANY NFL coach tells the media the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth will be the first time. All coaches dance around the truth. Some coaches like Bill Parcells give definately answers that actually make since, both never actually tell you anything. Others like Wade Phillips always try and see the silver lining in every cloud. But, that does not mean that they actually believe a single word that they say.

The Eagles have replenished their OL, but have NOONE at TE, and noone at WR other than Desean Jackson, and Westbrook is getting up in age, and can not longer stay even near healthy for even most of a season. Plus have McNabb, who was finally able to stay healthy for the whole season last year for the first time since 2003, and he is going to turn 33 this year. Also, what Jason Peters will show up this year, the one from 2007 or the Jason Peters of last year. If it is the Jason Peters of last year, they still have a huge hole at one tackle spot.

Joe Realist;2741335 said:
4. Giants have a formidable d-line.

They have a very formidable DL, but they have a HUGE hole at WR. And the WR that they are mainly looking at to fill Plaxico Burress's shoes (Braylon Edwards), make TO look like he has hands like Jerry Rice. Braylon Edwards actually caught FEWER than 40% of the passes thrown his way last year. Even Braylon Edwards at the price that the Browns are supposedly asking for (a 1st and a 3rd) doesn't scare me one bit.....

Joe Realist;2741335 said:

Flozell Adams is only 33 going to be 34. For an OL, 34 or even 35 is not old. OL is a position where players usually are supposed to peak between 30 and 32. It is not unheard of for OL to play till they are 37 or 38 years old.

I say if you compare player to player our roster has more talent on it than anyone else in our division. The question is will our team finally play to the talent on the team all year like we did the first 3 months of 2007. Player for player, our 2009 team is as good if not better than the 2007 team. They just have to play up to the talent on the team.

even if they do get him I think we are better than the giants. We beat those guys 3 out of 5 times, and in one game 2 gimme touchdowns cost a game that we lost by 3, and the other game my 9 year old son might has well have been quarterbackin (by the way he might have a stronger arm than brad johnson....seriously)

Only a total homer would think otherwise.

Until this team proves it can win in December and January, no offseason acquisitions or departures are going to change where this team stands. NYG has proven they can. Philly's core group of players hasn't won the big won, but they've advanced in the playoffs with regularity.

The Cowboys have a roster that can compete with any other. But no key player on this team has ever really won anything in the NFL. I believe failure to win a playoff game is in the heads of many of the guys on this team, and nothing will cure that but a playoff win. I stand in doubt of them until that happens. Not even a 13-3 regular season is going to change that.

The NFC East is a slaughter house.
Any team from this division, even the Skins could end up on top in December.
Much, much too early to even be thinking about this,,, isnt there a draft this weekend?
