So it's "we're almost there" then?

Anytime they've ever asked Prescott to do more he's flopped spectacularly. Now they're asking that stiff to learn a new offense. If you don't already know the outcome you're clueless.
The excuse for Dak's failure will be just that....learning curve....lets not forget that back in 2017 Doug Pederson locked himself in the basement for a weekend just prior to the playoffs, only to return upstairs with a 100% totally revamped playbook just for Nick Foles....you know the rest.

So it seems like they're going with the "we're almost there" approach. QB stays, RB1 and 2 stay, old OL guys stay... Will the TE1 stay too? Oh, but we're trying something else with the kicker! Jerry the gunslinger GM.

What do you guys think of this approach? Would you have preferred a bigger shake up on the players side? Or is this squad so full of talent, that we just need new coaches to get the most of it?

I'd have preferred a bigger shake up, but there's always the elephant in the room, Dak's contract. Without change on that position you couldn't start rebuilding anyway.

But if they really mean it, they have to sign at least another top dog WR. None of this digging through the scrap yard anymore.

So with that being said, as long as we're stuck with Dak, I guess it makes sense to keep this line up together for at least those two more years, right? Right?
My biggest beef is that they are getting ready to lock us into Dak for the foreseeable future.

JJ and SJ don’t really know how to put together a championship roster. We have nearly three decades of evidence. Our two best hopes are that they listen to some good advice from Will McClay and that Lady Luck has sweet mercy on us and we get lucky next year.
Wrong!

They have had many years with great rosters.

The fail has been coaching. Now they finally have a legit Head Coach that is hiring his own assistants and they have a big time D-Coordinator.
- No more Head Coach in training (Garrett and Campo) and no more guy that has failed everytime he was a Head Coach (Wade Phillips).

Agree with you that we have a much better head coach than we’ve had in years. But man it’s hard to say anyone is wrong who says these guys don’t know how to build a championship roster when there are 27 years and counting of evidence to the contrary. None of the great rosters we’ve had has gotten us very far when it matters.

I give Jerry credit for bringing in McClay, improving the drafts, and bringing in a better head coach. I can’t give him credit for something he hasn’t done. Get us to at least a conference championship without a lot of help from Jimmy Johnson.

And finally, it mystifies me why anyone‘s opinion on an opinion forum grinds your gears. You have opinions. I don’t have a problem with any of them. They’re your opinions. I have opinions too. Some of them are probably wrong just like some of yours. None of us need to pretend our opinions are anything beyond what they really are- fan’s opinions.

If you look at the situation objectively, we were 7 points away from the NFCCG, its not like we are the Texans.

We really dont need to "blow it up", just make some adjustments here and there especially on offense.

"We like our guys" + "We're almost there" + "Man in the mirror" = year of regression.

Dak learned a new offense as a rookie, didn't get starter snaps until just before the season started, and did great.

Stay the same and sit back while every other team implodes, it's guaranteed to work.

I would dump Zeke. It gives you money that could be better spent.

And he just fell off so badly that he's obviously done and it's hurting the team at this point.

The downfall of the Cowboys of the late 90s was this very same mistake. Yes, I know Emmitt Smith got the record, but the team had become about Emmitt's record, instead of winning. That ought to be a signal to Jerry that it's time to let go.

It’s harder to let go of your favorite players when you’re a GM playing fantasy football. His job is not on the line so having “favorites” or sticking with a HC for a decade that was clearly not the answer are perfectly acceptable.

When you’re not accountable to anyone for results, seasons…even whole decades are expendable because winning is NOT everything to him. Being large and in charge is everything. If winning was THE most important thing to Jerry he would no longer be in charge.

Well said. I’m at the point where I’m having difficulty reconciling this fact while still remaining a fan of the team. It’s habit at this point I think, because I don’t believe in the franchise at all.

When you think about all the stuff that has been said by Jerry and Stephen you just know this team never had a profound or coherent strategy since Dak has been cast. No, wait, ever since 1997.

Jerry know nothing about putting together a championship roster; those Super Bowls were the result of the roster put together by Jimmy Johnson. Since his firing…Dallas has not come close to sniffing a Super Bowl…and these 26 years Jerry is the lone constant.
Dallas has an inconsistent, undependable QB; a physically-diminished RB that the FO believes is a starter; questions at LG, DT, LB, CB; and a kicker with the yips for one game that Jerry is looking to replace.
Not to mention the coaching staff is in turnover mode and looking to simplify the offense to take pressure off of our $40MM “elite” QB.
Yeah Jerry…we are “almost there”…

That guy only posts definitive opinions. There is no give and take with him. He just gives you his opinion with no concessions. It’s his personality. Plenty of people argue this way-it’s called being louder and more persistent than the other person. I don’t care enough to do back and forth with most people on the forum (they have zero concept of introspection). Just like Jerry.

Me too, but are they? There is another thread where a most likely first 11 are discussed. And to be honest, I can very much see that. "Almost there" is the poison this team drinks season in season out. And dragging us fans along the way. :(
