So, Jerra, you didn't bring in a "wow" player post-Pacman

So, my question to this August assemblage of knowing personable personages, is this:
Were their no real viable WR candidates out there this offseason? Even ones under contract whose owners might deal?

Or, did Jerra save his powder for something else and really has faith in the young'uns?

I think it be the latter.

Well I think its the former, except there were viable ones, we just didn't get them..

We didnt get a wow player, why make excuses now or try to overrate our scrubs at this point. Sure if someone breaks out, then cool, but a wow in the offseason is a big name player or a big move in the draft, we did neither. There is no way you can say anyone like Hurd or Austin are anywhere near a wow player at this point.

If it helps you sleep at night, thats cool, but if you keep sleeping with those blue and silver glasses on........they could break.

Yeah, go ahead and step on my dreams.
:write:
Tell me that my meager, blue-collar proletariet dreams are just that. Dreams.
Go on, this optimistic boy of the Plains is an easy target for you. Yes, brimming with excitement over the impending season. To you my dreams are just a one-way ticket to Squareville with stops as Palookaville and Nonsequitursville. No mercy street from you . . . .

And, yes, hearing good things about Hurd and Austin is cause for excitement in my book.
But, I guess in that cynical, hard-bitten world of your celebrity you can look down on my dreams.
As you do the samba with Florence Henderson and the limbo with Joey Heatherton and sip brandy with Soupy Sales, you can feel you are Mr. High and Mighty.

Well, let me tell you, "sir" all of the eternal optimism and looking ahead is OK by me. It helps me sleep better at night, yeah, though the drive-thru at Chu's take-out is mighty loud at night.

(Cue in the Battle Hymn of the Republic)

But, gosh darn it, did I give up when Jackie dropped that pass in the end zone from Ari? Did I lose all hope when Landry uttered "No, Danny! No, Danny, No!"? Did Richard Widmark cry uncle when the Indians were burning off his teets?:enough:
Well, that I my answer to you, "sir.":nono2:
Laugh as you will at this eternally optimistic kid.
Just call me a proud and loyal Cowboy fan, by gum. (fade out Hymn)

Excuse, me, that is just something I got in my eye when her pepper spray went off.

Lay off the sauce man, some people don't react well to it....;)

Hopefully you didn't take what I said too harshly, I was just making the point that if there was anyway Jerry could have gotten Roy, Boldin, or CJ in here for a reasonable price, they would be here...........and it has nothing to do with Hurd or Austin. The price for them was just too steep so now we are stuck with hope that some scrub performs like a lottery ticket and makes us rich overnight from nowhere.

Austin is probably the one with the "potential" to be a good compliment to TO right now, but again, there are alot of guys that don't live up to potential. I can live with the fact that there were no good WRs prospects where we drafted this year, but this isn't a problem that just surfaced this year, we have neglected developing the position for years so now we do have to depend on the free agent market cause we can't solve the problem with draft picks at this late date. Any WR draft pick would deserve the same time to develop like every other LB or TE we have on the roster.

Picking backups for all pros makes alot of sense instead of picking guys that would be on the field....um ok....guess I'm not an eternal optimist though. Yes, we will be good, but discounting what would make us even better isn't a point of view I can see any point in taking.

That would be a good thing!! No slight to Crayton whatsoever, he has been the scorned child around the CBZ for ... oh ever since the last game, but with his experience, he could tear up the nickel CB on the opposite side of the ball... Crayton will only be better this season, book it. Dallas offense... providing that the Austin experience works to the Cowboys advantage would make for one helluva show this season. Man I can't wait!!

I'm with you. Crayton is gonna have a year if we give him the chance. Every receiver (including our beloved T.O.) had to have the opportunity to grow out their wings. T.O.'s first few seasons in Frisco weren't glamerous by any means... but he was ready to flourish once Jerry Rice's wings got old and shriveled up.

Perhaps comparing TO's first two seasons with Crayton's is fair. I don't see Crayton possessing enough talent to play a lot better. Sure he can catch more balls but he'll never be more than an adequate number 3 at best IMO. I hope I'm wrong though.

How about adding arguably the best kick returner in the draft, who can also help you immediately on offense?
