So the offensive line is objectively better without Zach Martin. Now what?

Sadly, father time and injuries have caught up with Martin.

retirement is right around the corner.

First thing - he has to get healthy. Until that happens it's street clothes and inactive for each game.

At some point I do expect him to be a starter. But at this point, the Cowboys only have 5 games left in the season.

Out of respect for him and his accomplishments and the career he has had, I have no problem with him starting the last 2-3 games and allowing him to get the little playing time he has left.

Then he can walk away and get fitted for a gold jacket.
That's right just when he is healthy. He's earned the respect. I'd like him to go out on a high note on the field if he can.

Sentiment and winning dont go together. Martin should only return if the coaches are absolutely certain it will improve the line.

Turns out having QB makes a difference.
Rush makes the short tight throws that Dak looks off.
If we had the next step up from Rush, this team would be headed to the playoffs.
Despite all the bagging on McClay we have the talent EVERYWHERE BUT QB.

While we're not making the playoffs this year, with a better offensive staff and Cooper Rush from game 1 we would be in the playoff hunt and with a next level QB we'd be stout.

Unfortunately our GM made a epically bad decision right before the season began.

Then again, what else is new aye Jerry?
Rush was average yesterday. What are you talking about. We won the game because of the defense, running game, and the fact the Giants quit. It kills me that you guys hate Dak so much. You guys need to become Eagles fans. I know most of you are anyway.

Thanks for exposing their serious lack of football knowledge, mega case of DDS and explaining to them how wrong they are. They have gotten so bad, they either don't know or they are big time trolling.
Ohhhhh
You mean like Jimmy Johnson

I'm surprised we haven't had some chime in that ZM is still All Pro.

Some of this board fight the truth long after it's obvious.
This is the point where almost everyone leaves the station. Only 2 or 3 defenders will remain. And I will still be the villain for trying to be sensible years ago.

you were wrong years ago so suck it
Wow OK if you say so. I can't imagine how bad he would have to be for me to have been considered right. If he goes out next week with a walker was the decision still correct? Is there any conceivable scenario in which paying him would be the wrong thing to do?

Looks like Jerry will always be OK as long as he has a fan base as good as you.

Yes. We have all seen both Hoffman and Bass block much better than Zack Martin. It hurts making such a move, but Zack is done. Finished. The video tapes don't lie.
Hoffman is healthy and its shows on tape. He is scrappy and a little bit scrappy/dirty. I don't mind it. I think RBs are seeing more daylight and Hoffman at the end of plays is looking for someone to hit or get in their grill and jaw a bit. You need someone on the line like that to give a bit of juice to the unit.

Let Zack sit for now. We may need him sooner than later, but while Hoffman is doing OK let's roll with the kid and focus on other actual problems on the line - Steele not playing up to snuff and Guyton looking like a turnstile every so often.

Or Rush gets rid of the ball much faster than Dak which makes it much easier on the OL.

You guys really need to think of such things before posting such things.

I'll add this: The o line also looks better because Rush is willing to take a snap from under center, which gives the RB better vision on the holes and makes the run plays hit quicker. When you run out of the shotgun, the ball has to get to the QB and then the RB has to move sideways to get the ball before accelerating towards the hole. Adding those tenths of a second matter at NFL speeds. A defender can move a few yards in that time which is the difference between an open hole and a tackle for loss.
I used to write about this all the time based upon CBS sports breakdown of Moore’s play calling. Dak doesn’t take snaps from under Center. When he did throw they were really quick routes within the 1-3 range, like a quick screen, as well as predictable.

The author’s point was that this limits the OC play calling. This was also true with Linehan. Dak can’t throw from a traditional drop back pass FROM UNDER CENTER, 3-5-7 step from. This was 2019-2020, and here we are in 2024.

ONe of the things that stands out the most is that Prescott only threw the ball 30 times after dropping back from under center (he also attempted 90 play-action passes from that formation). A fair number of those 30 passes did not even require an actual drop back from center: some of them were quick screens thrown immediately after the snap.

A mere 17.7% of the passing plays called by Moore came when Prescott started under center (120 of 677), with 90 of those pass attempts coming off play-action.

Prescott attempted to execute a three-step, five-step, or seven-step drop on average of less than twice a game in 2019. That basic ratio has been true for every year that Prescott has been in the NFL.

I took a lot of criticism earlier in the year when I suggested Prescott’s inability to take a snap from under center and then drop back and deliver a well-timed and properly-placed pass was a limitation, but it is hard to avoid the fact he only attempted 30 passes all year when dropping back from under center.

I used to write about this all the time based upon CBS sports breakdown of Moore’s play calling. Dak doesn’t take snaps from under Center, because he can’t throw consistently on a traditional 3-5-7 step drop back. When he did throw they were really quick routes within the 1-3 range, like a quick screen, as well as predictable.

The author’s point was that this limits the OC play calling.
Scheme and play calling have been lacking for a very long time
we get close at times but never seem to be able to get it right

Brock Hoffman has that dawg in him, he's gonna fight every play, and like those guys on the OL. Zack is banged up, and he'll find there's life after football, so leave with as much health as possible...call it a season. But players, play. Evaluate these young guys and move forward.
