So the offensive line is objectively better without Zach Martin. Now what?

Brock Hoffman has that dawg in him, he's gonna fight every play, and like those guys on the OL. Zack is banged up, and he'll find there's life after football, so leave with as much health as possible...call it a season. But players, play. Evaluate these young guys and move forward.
I would sit Steele as well and go with our Young tackles and see what they got. well, problem with that is richards is injured so maybe not steele since that probably means Erdoga
So play Hoffman and Bass hard the rest of the season

Scheme and play calling have been lacking for a very long time
we get close at times but never seem to be able to get it right
When you can’t throw from underneath center from a traditional drop back, it implies the QB is limited.

The play-calling under McCarthy has been to call the plays in early to try and get the defense caught off guard with wrong personnel packages. That is why you often see with Dak, he’s snapping with around 19 seconds left in play call time.

First thing - he has to get healthy. Until that happens it's street clothes and inactive for each game.

At some point I do expect him to be a starter. But at this point, the Cowboys only have 5 games left in the season.

Out of respect for him and his accomplishments and the career he has had, I have no problem with him starting the last 2-3 games and allowing him to get the little playing time he has left.

Then he can walk away and get fitted for a gold jacket.
I have a problem with playing an established player, even a hall of fame level player, simply based on the idea that he has “earned that right” or his prior level of play.

We should have moved on a couple of years ago from Martin. His level of play has been in steady decline for several years. Those who couldn’t see it were fooling themselves.

It is frustrating to see that we paid him that last contract. It’s totally wasted cap money.

This is one example of why we don’t even get over the hump. It’s not about performance Dallas.

Actually I would say you need your eyesight checked. Two years ago Martin was still playing at ALL PRO level and most of last season as well

Agreed. I'd play Waletzko too even though I don't think anything is there.

I used to write about this all the time based upon CBS sports breakdown of Moore’s play calling. Dak doesn’t take snaps from under Center. When he did throw they were really quick routes within the 1-3 range, like a quick screen, as well as predictable.

The author’s point was that this limits the OC play calling. This was also true with Linehan. Dak can’t throw from a traditional drop back pass FROM UNDER CENTER, 3-5-7 step from. This was 2019-2020, and here we are in 2024.

Good post. Deserves more than a +1.

Keeping with this discussion, the inability to play from under center seriously hampers any attempt at play action passing. The fake handoff out of the gun fools no one.

Keeping it about the thread, all of this makes the line look worse.

They probably reinsert him into the lineup at some point right? I wonder what happens. The running game is functional. The offense is opened up a bit ? Screeens and stuff have a chance
Time to move on from Martin. Let him sit the remainder of the year and see what the young guys do. Do that at every position you can. We have as good if not better options at guard. Martin is an alltime great, maybe even an HOF player but it’s time to move on

you were wrong years ago and now want kudos because you are finally right?
When superfans who should know their team better than anyone have no clue what's happening on the field, those of us who do shouldn't be vilified for trying to educate.

After retirement, I suspect ZM will admit his last few years weren't up to his standards. Will you admit it then?

This is the point where almost everyone leaves the station. Only 2 or 3 defenders will remain. And I will still be the villain for trying to be sensible years ago.
oh look, one that thinks he's been all pro up until a couple games ago has chimed in. odd that a guy is all pro one minute but the team is better when he goes out.

kinda like it fits with a player who has been declining for several years & finally got so bad that everyone can see it.

there should absolutely be a realistic evaluation rather than historical deference.

you might want to read the comments where other posters are saying they recognized decline occurring.

might be you on the short bus regarding this particular topic.

FWIW, a working clock is right all the time.

Anyone who knows football can now see
1. Dak holds the ball too long and takes unnecessary sacks.
2. Dak’s accuracy has always been a thing.
3. Dak’s mobility has drastically declined.
4. Dak’s decision making pre snap is definitely in question.

No one is saying Rush is better than Dak as a passer. But we can certainly say the offense is more efficient the last 3 weeks.
If you wanna argue, put on the tape.
Thank you for putting "sanity" into words.
It seems that some just love to jump to conclusions in order to cover for a declining QB whose contract has crippled the team's possibility of improvement.

Not blaming #4. Heck, I wish I could get a record contract while declining in skill and ability. But I think he knows deep down that his whole "game" is a facade.
