So what do they do now about a backup QB

Why on Earth do we need to waste money on a vet? This team is not built (nor is it poising to build) to win now. The upcoming season is already lost.

Draft the next QB now.

Does anyone here recall 1989? A decision was made. Not to try to prop-up a struggling franchise to attain a respectable record. But to rebuild the team around a good QB & a few existing nuggets (incl. Michael Irvin). The rookie Aikman was absolutely thrown to the dogs, destroyed in his first season, going 1-15. But he, and things, got better from there. Drafted Emmitt Smith the next year, and it was off to the races.

Kyle McCord is going to be on the board at least through the first two rounds. Maybe longer. I'd draft him in a heartbeat.

Maybe they can re-sign Trey Lance to a team-friendly deal - maybe not. Either way… Better spend A PICK in the upcoming draft. Better.

I agree about corners. The board thinks we need receivers but they have 5 already on the roster that know their roles. CeeDee is the star. Tolbert is the number 2, Mingo is big bodied blocker, Turpin is the big play threat, Jaylon is the special teams ace. Plus we have Ferguson and Schoonmaker at tight end.
If the plan is ANYBODY currently on the roster as the #2 WR - then the Cowboys definitely need another plan. And don’t count on drafting a capable ‘just add water’ starting receiver for the upcoming season.

Do the SMART THING - not the short-sighted thing.

Dak needs to play qb qb2 wr special teams lber. Try earn some of that money at least. Lol

Here's a different perspective:

The current team doesn't have a QB whisperer or developer on staff. The team desperately needs some type coach to shake loose from the Reid, McVay, Payton or Shanahan coaching tree in order to groom the next great Cowboy QB whomever that may be.

A blue chip pedigreed prospect or diamond in the rough potential candidate will still need the best coaching available in order to maximize their potential.

The current staff is light years behind having anyone on board to develop a modern day passer.

Can't have one without the other imo.
Unless you're talking about getting the elite of elite prospects who could accel with any system.

But to acquire THAT type of talent is wishful thinking imo.
Are you talking the Cowboys out of selecting a QB somewhere in the upcoming draft? If so, I am definitely NOT on board with that thinking.

O
Your statement there implies the answer IMHO.
If Ewers goes off the board in round 1-3 he almost certainly isn't a Cowboy.
If he makes round 4? I bet he is.
QB position should be considered ‘in play’ - but above all else… stick to your board, Cowboys!

LMao you thinking the media, those vids are educating people with rhetoric and opinion is priceless LMAO :muttley:   :lmao2:

by the way show me the clip where SJ or JJ SAID we're doing this because we're cheap and saving money LOL NO they are going cheaper but not by design, time to change and go in another direction New plan, bi-product it might cost less, totally natural.. CR was crutch and overrated was time to move on..
my dude for cripessake I already gave you the quote above!!!!

Stephen Jones said the team thinks highly of Rush, but they "just don’t know what he’s going to cost" and "unfortunately we do have to go cheap" at backup quarterback because of their other commitments.

It should be but thats not the "Cowboy Way".
Talking heads are going to push this nonsense because its free clicks but Dallas is going to select a targeted starter in rounds 1 and 2

While I say it should I absolutely believe it wouldn't work out THIS YEAR anyway because the QBs with starting grades are going top 6 picks.
It is a very soft draft class for QBs. Much better off waiting a year.
If Dak is not ready to go to start the regular season, just tank and take your QB next year.

No way do they go with a draft pick to be the backup in 2025. They may draft a QB to develop but they’ll sign a veteran with starting experience to be the backup.
Yup. They draft 12th. They'll have about 5 guys available who are R1 graded walk in starters.
No QB graded NFL starter will be available unless they do something insane and turn off half the league like Aaron Rodgers did.
Its' a really soft QB class.
Spend an R2 on a guy who likely won't beat out Will Grier year 1?
Seems extraordinarily unlike Dallas.

Maybe they can re-sign Trey Lance to a team-friendly deal - maybe not. Either way… Better spend A PICK in the upcoming draft. Better.
If Lance is offered a contract by any team it will be league minimum. It can’t get any more “team-friendly” than that.

I pretty much expect this draft to look like 2016.

A hurt, overpaid Romo and Dallas didn't touch QB until R4 supp pick.
Dallas not uncoincidentally badly needed an RB and CB in 2016.
They went RB over CB at 4.
Then LB in R2 and DT in round 3.

Wouldn't shock me if we ended up with those same exact positions.

I'm hoping Stephen manages to get his wish and drafts a QB in the upcoming draft. As far as actual game experience, Grier has only started one game in the regular season, according to what I read yesterday. I do recall seeing him in several preseason outings in the distant past. He did quite well in the last one, before he was acquired elsewhere. We'll probably pick one up in the draft, maybe with one of our 5th round picks

Urghhh!! Dart predicted to go top 10 now. Wow, thought we may get him in the second.
I saw Mel has Dart at 9 to the Saints. I really dont see that happening, but I do think he will sneak into the 1st.
