So what do they do now about a backup QB

Somehow draft McCord or Dart . And start down the road to giving Prescott meaningful competition from a young QB you’ve invested a draft pick in . Bring in Will Grier strictly as 3rd string emergency who can actually help coach up a young draft pick .

We’re certainly not going to take a QB with our first pick. That would be insane even if we traded down. We just paid Dak so a QB in round one would make no sense especially with the glaring holes we have. We pretty much have to hit a homerun with our first pick. The draft is a real crapshoot but we have to nail the pick. We haven’t added a single difference maker in free agency so we’re banking heavily on the draft.
The only possible “difference maker” players in this draft are Carter and Campbell.

Every draft has players that will develop into difference makers. You’re way off the mark if you believe there’s only two difference makers in this draft. It doesn’t take a HOF player to be a difference maker.

Sanders is falling like a Rock. He's my candidate to skid out of Rd 1 completely. Then at 44 Dallas drafts him.
Sanders will never skid far enough for us to take him in the 2nd round.
Why on Earth do we need to waste money on a vet? This team is not built (nor is it poising to build) to win now. The upcoming season is already lost.

Draft the next QB now.

Does anyone here recall 1989? A decision was made. Not to try to prop-up a struggling franchise to attain a respectable record. But to rebuild the team around a good QB & a few existing nuggets (incl. Michael Irvin). The rookie Aikman was absolutely thrown to the dogs, destroyed in his first season, going 1-15. But he, and things, got better from there. Drafted Emmitt Smith the next year, and it was off to the races.

Kyle McCord is going to be on the board at least through the first two rounds. Maybe longer. I'd draft him in a heartbeat.
That was back when the NFL had no salary cap and we got lucky and found a team who like the "scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz" needed a brain.

I meant immediately, as in 1st game of the season. Lots of guys drafted will be effective as rookies dependent on the the team they end up with and dependent on their teammates. And in time. Carter and Campbell will be effective day one regardless where they end up. Campbell may well be there at 12.

I can assure you they’ll be more than 2 players from this draft that will be “effective” day one of the regular season. If Campbell is still on the board at 12 then he’s not the can’t miss player you think he is.
