So what do they do now about a backup QB

Do what they did in 2016. Draft a developmental QB in the mid rounds.

Will Grier plays the role of Kellen Moore. Backup QB to an aging oft injured QB1. The mid round pick will play the role of 2016 Dak Prescott.

The likelihood is the rookie will play at some point in 2025. If he wins games will there be a meritocracy again? Or does a $60MM AAV rule out a meritocracy?

With Coper Rush leaving to play for the Ravens
What direction does the Team go in

Dak will be coming back from a 2nd significant injury
We all know that with the question marks we have at left and right tackle he could get injured again
Do they sign a veteran former starter at QB or roll the dice in the draft ?
Wonder if this crew has a plan?

Sure it does, because when we draft a QB outside of the first round their contract will be expiring the same time as Dak's. So we will have to resign our QB, that never played, to a starting contract. That sounds about right for GM Jethro's excellent planning.

Slice it anyway you want, but we are going to have a significant amount of Daks dead money on the books when he's done in Dallas.

When we find his replacement I doubt they let him out the door.

IF rumors true
Dallas offered Lance a multi yr deal in late weeks
When he turned it down.....he didnt play until last week
May be the only offer Lance sees if still on the table.

It's always been both I don't know why people have to ask there's gonna be some kind of veteran either on the practice squad or as your third emergency quarterback or as your primary backup and then you'll have a young developmental player on the team it's always been set up that way it won't change just because Cooper rush left we will get a guy in a similar talent ranges Cooper rush it's not that it's that hard to find I know people are gonna hike this dude up but demands one of the most overrated players on this team when it comes to equating some of the wins he's had versus looking on the field..

So they'll bring one of these journeymen veteran free agents that are sitting out there here for camp and they're gonna draft a young guy and who knows they're gonna bring Trey Lance back I don't think Mike McCarthy ever had any plans to wanna develop the guy or use him but he does have the legs and the mobility people are looking for and I don't think he's that bad a thrower he could be developed as long as he's not asking for a lot of money why not let him compete here for the backup position..

Why not both ?

Don't we still have QB Wil Grier ?

Others vet QBs available (aside from Rodgers & Wilson) :
Joe Flacco
Jameis Winston
Carson Wentz
Drew Lock
Mike White
Case Keenum
I'm with you I don't see how things change just because Cooper rush is leaving it's not that big a hole to fill it's always been having one veteran journeyman on your team along with one developmental guy your emergency quarterback on game day doesn't count against active players so it's just gonna be business as usual they just have to decide on which one...

No it is not. You have Dart, Howard, Cook, etc. What QB do you have for 2026 ?
Well the first part of this needs to be you have to be bad enough to pick in the top five, or have a trade piece to get yourself up into the top five before you even can worry about if you're going to get one of the better quarterbacks, but I think they're counting on possibly and I don't think it's happening but A.Manning might be out in 26..
but I don't see him only playing one year in Texas, but you never know...
There's always sleepers I don't know who's going to be available for 2026, but I know this we're keeping Prescott probably for two seasons unless he has the most horrible year he's ever had and gets injured again, maybe the Cowboys eat his deal ,and part ways but your guess is as good as mine..
I think some of these fans think Manning's coming out and that we have a shot at him..

Again,

the Cowboys don't tank on purpose and they won seven games last year with mostly backups that's why we're picking 12 not one and if we don't get injured as bad as we did last year we're gonna probably win 10 games at minimum you're not getting one of those quarterbacks unless you're willing to trade Parsons or somebody like him but right now he's the only one with a contract due that's holding up negotiations that can have that kind of firepower to get draft picks to move up you can just trade him this year move up to the top five to pick someone not a quarterback but then also get another number one pick that you can use to move up next year but I'm not saying do that but he's the only one I can think of that would be worth it to another team do you wanna make a blockbuster trade it would be Parsons he's the only one... But if that is their plan that'd be the only way to do it in my opinion..

The Cowboys will draft a quarterback higher than most expect. If they trade back in the first round the extra pick will be the quarterback.

Dallas will draft a QB in the 5th round to hold the clipboard and learn, and Will Grier who played at West Virginia Will be the back up.He is already signed to the roster.
Well unless you're Nostradamus it's not exactly gotta be the fifth round LOL

I think the Cowboys are gonna surprise us and move around and package pics they have so many extra compensatory picks..

I think they could package some of those 5ths and move up into the 4th, if they targeted somebody whether it be a quarterback or somebody else, but I think they could take a quarterback earlier in that case but you never know San Francisco got rock Purdy the last player taken in the draft we've seen Tom Brady going to six I know it's unusual but undrafted free agent Tony Romo Kurt Warner those type of dudes like you never know when you're gonna accidentally just fall into one.

I have a feeling might not be the only round they do this in they could move around up and down and get more quality players in the top 4 rounds and they have slotted right now and still get the guys they targeted. I'm not sure why but it's just a gut feeling they're gonna do a lot more movement in this draft than they have in a very long time...

Not really have to do that in the first, have alot of options..

I don’t think anyone has a clue about what the Cowboys are doing. Your theory is as good as anyone’s. I don’t think the first 3 picks will be wide receiver, running back, and defensive tackle.

We're not going to be contenders, so it doesn't matter. Backup means nothing.

I think two of those three are on the board as far as going in the first 3 rounds and again depending on how they maneuver up and down they could get 4 picks in the first 3 rounds... I believe because of Louis leaving diggs and Butler being hurt rehabbing injuries, and who knows when they get back..Carson MUk and AO are not starter ready guys. depth yes but we new TWO CBs IMHO..

we really don't have any corners except for bland to start game one,

I think they could go for a cornerback at #12.. I'm not even sure how strong the corners are in this draft other than Hunter likely gone, and the Michigan Corner..

I haven't really paid attention, but it just seems like all signs are pointing towards that could be their top pick. Which is crazy because I think people are going to be upset and the only thing, I've heard is Michigan has three players going in the first Round, 2 are defensive tackles, and one's a corner and nobody around here really likes the Michigan picks, but what if it's the Michigan corner..

So, our first-round pick probably is a Michigan player and that's not going to go well here lol..
