So what do they do now about a backup QB

Here's a different perspective:

The current team doesn't have a QB whisperer or developer on staff. The team desperately needs some type coach to shake loose from the Reid, McVay, Payton or Shanahan coaching tree in order to groom the next great Cowboy QB whomever that may be.

A blue chip pedigreed prospect or diamond in the rough potential candidate will still need the best coaching available in order to maximize their potential.

The current staff is light years behind having anyone on board to develop a modern day passer.

Can't have one without the other imo.
Unless you're talking about getting the elite of elite prospects who could accel with any system.

But to acquire THAT type of talent is wishful thinking imo.

Slice it anyway you want, but we are going to have a significant amount of Daks dead money on the books when he's done in Dallas.

When we find his replacement I doubt they let him out the door.
That is when we will need a rookie year 1 contract. Not someone that needs to be resigned to $50M+.

Might sound crazy, but this team needs Jameis Winston. Perfect locker room guy to try and bring the dysfunction together.

Just please don’t throw away a 3rd round pick on a mediocre talent like Quinn Ewers.

Do you know the details of Daks contract? Length, void years, guaranteed money etc?

We are on the hook for 129 million guaranteed, and he has void years going into 2032.

He might break down as soon as next year. We don't know.

I would begin bringing in potential replacements and figure out the money as we go on.

I disagree you can do both it can mean both things you're looking for your future starter and you hope it is the guy you pick but if not you keep picking him because you're not gonna have to pay them and you get rid of them and you keep rotating them until you find one that's the hard truth about quarterback in the NFL they're hard to find unless you're picking in the top three every year with a lot of teams are and they still took decades to find their replacements but I disagree it's not about cheap you can go get cheap quarterbacks even in journeyman veterans it has everything to do with young fresh rookie quarterback that possibly could be the next guy that is why you do that this is the only reason they pick Prescott in the fourth round he was supposed to be developmental he had enough grades on him that said he could have went higher he was there they took him and ended up he had to start as a rookie and it turns out he was better than they thought...

It happens all the time you don't think that Brock Purdy was just supposed to be a camp arm you know a guy possibly make the roster and he turned out to be good that's why teams do it stop calling them cheap if they wanted cheat you could find that in just about any quarterback that you deem as a backup..

Tell y'all though and and I don't understand recent history says they just paid Cooper rush $3,000,000 or somewhere around there with bonuses it might have been more they also paid 5.5 million for Trey Lance last year we had backups making $8 million and you say they're too cheap if they were cheap they would have never picked up the 5th year option on Trey Lance whatever it is they did to pay him all that money to be the emergency third quarterback that played one game started one game you calling them cheap you know what that's just a bad narrative...
Its ok to disagree but you are very wrong lol.
They are looking to fill a roster slot with a cheap player.
They have told us exactly that.
If they hit on another Dak or a Tony Romo, they will rejoice but that isn't the goal.

The cap hit last year for Spencer Rattler was 880K.
The cap hit for Rush would be 5-6M.

I understand your hopium here but it's not at all realistic.
It's a weak QB class and the Cowboys need immediate, day 1 starters with premium picks so won't touch a QB til round 4 or 5.

Just another hole to fill. Maybe this was what Jerry was talking about when he referenced “glory holes”

We sell the position to whoever in the stadium on game day has the most money.

Not to give Booger any ideas, but don't think he hasn't already had it in mind.

I see your point brother. I dont agree, because I think its really difficult to find that qb. I liked the way Belichick used to do it and just trade them if need be. Of course it depends on who's on the board and when.
