safety, safety, safety. Our safties have sucked since Woodson retired. We need to do all we can to get Delmas except give up the farm. If not him go after Sean Smith. WR is not a need. OL is the next positon, TJ Lang, Antonie Caldwell would be great picks in the 4th.

Our best defense is a better offense. So what we should do is trade up for a LT and a Center that can play guard. NT is also a need but if we improve the O-line our defense won't see the field as much...

I would think we need a good DT more than anything.

Gee I dunno, having a young probowl NT tied up in a longterm deal seems to sorta have that covered, wouldnt you think?

We have spent last years first on a DB and we have some capable players as well there.

CB's yeah, safeties no. Safety was the worst position on the team last yr and we dont have anybody back there that can make plays.

As for WR, I really think we are going to go with Roy, Crayton, Austin, Hurd and Stanback. If we do take a WR is will be later.

Could be, but they brought in alot of 2nd/3rd rd picks type guys, so they are obviously interested in WR early.

Signing Brookings kinda pushes the need for a LB down a bit.

A little, but not much. Brooking is a stop gap guy, James is solid but there is nothing behind them other than a bust and a guy who was decent a few yrs ago, but has been plagued by injuries since.

So I would think we would need a good DT (Ron Brace?) at 51. Someone who can be a good backup to Ratliff and gives us the option of moving Ratliff along the line if need be.

I just think drafting a NT at 51 is an utter waste. At best he'd play a dozen or so plays a game. Ron Brace wont be the highest rated player on the board either IMO, which makes it an even bigger waste.

So, what do you think we need most and who would you like (realistically)

1a safety, 1b WR..and another pass rusher, especially if Ellis is traded as I believe might happen. After that Ol depth.

I know know specifically who, but the answer is OL.

Big and Mean and Dominating.

With our RB corp and a dominating running game, Romo will carve up defenses like Aikman did.

The roster isn't really deep enough anywhere - except maybe RB - to turn our nose up at any position.

I'm a huge proponent for a big NT. However, Ratliff is the guy there as the 3 technique guy. That's Wade's ball of wax. The problem is asking Ratliff to play as a 2 guy. That's asking a lot of him. That's when we need the big NT. And if a team starts to run up the middle then put the big guy in and stop the breakout. It's not just the number of snaps. It's not efficient to use Ratliff as a 2 technique NT.

Biggest need is offensive line. Weakest point is left tackle...flozell is old and looked really bad last year. Flo is 34 and the rest of the line will be 31 this year.

I say get Robiskie if available in 2nd, if not get best OL available....and keep drafting OL. They say you only hit on 50% of picks, so select enough to get 2 or 3 future starters.

The biggest NEED is at Safety where we don't currently have a starter.

The area we should target with our first pick though is OL.

I do agree that NT is a need but I think we can look for one after our first pick and be OK.

I would like to see us go OL, S, NT, WR, QB with our first 5 picks but that would obviously depend on who is available, that's just the order of importance right now.

The best answer is the most boring answer: Best Player Available.

As far as the OL goes... it is mind-boggling just how poorly the Cowboys have been at drafting OL.

Flozell Adams was drafted in 1998. That was only one year after David LaFluer and Dexter Coakley were drafted and one year before Ebenezer Ekuban and Solomon Page were drafted.

With the possible exceptions of McQuistan and Free (who are works in progress) -- since drafting Flozell Adams, the Cowboys have hit on only two OL: Gurode and Al Johnson.

That's a sad record.

You cant hit on them all, and we clearly hit the jackpot on some other positions. They have tried some OL, some just didnt work out. Parcells is solely to blame for Jacob Rogers, I'd also argue that Al Johnsont didnt work out at all either, and he was a Parcells pick too.

Peterman is another one who actually did "work out", just not for us.

I agree with 'BPA'...We have one glaring issue-S-but the value might not match with pick#51. So I'm all for picking the best player available, regardless of position, to fit into the team.

A rangy, centerfield, ball hawking type of Safety. I want that more than anything else in this draft.

I agree with the two aforementioned opinions so I don't need to elaborate further......................

However, am I all alone in my opinion that we need to draft a QB? This conversation has come up before in varying forms, and I've offered that opinion several times. But I don't see much agreement to that opinion on any "draft" threads.

I think Kitna is fine as a back-up...........for now. And we all saw what happened last year when Romo went down. We went 1-3 or 1-4 during his down time.
I say draft a Stephen McGee (Texas A & M), a Pat White (W. Virginia), a John Parker Wilson ('Bama), a Nate Davis (Ball St.), someone like that. Doesn't have to be a Mark Sanchez or a Matthew Stafford, but someone who will not only keep Kitna on his toes, but maybe win a game or two if pressed into action.

I think that QB is one of the weakest positions depth-wise on the team. We got Tony Romo, who already is a Pro-Bowl player and will most likely improve consistently over the coming 4-5 years. He's gonna' win a SB or two as well, I'm very optimistic about that. And the way that Romo and Matt Cassell came along is not that uncommon nowadays.

We also have an OC/Asst. HC who was hailed to be the next "QB Guru/Wunder Child" whiz kid. The next Norv Turner or Holmgren when it comes to the QB position. If he's gonna' be around for a while (as it appears he will), then why not get him his "Troy Aikman" or "Brett Favre" fresh from the tree and be his mentor in the NFL?

Just thinking out loud again, but I believe this strongly................

Do I get some points for this??

I'm no "draft guru", but I got what I wanted so far. I like the first two picks as well...........................

Stephen Jones said the exact same thing two days ago. This wasn't a real big surprise.

But I'll give you a  anyways!!!

Yeah, he did talk about this very thing............I've been thinking and talking about drafting a QB since the beginning of last year when I watched Brad Johnson a little in the pre-season.

I enjoy monitoring this thread and threads like this (about the draft) that started up on this board well over a month ago. It's one of those rare moments where we can actually see who said what, and all of our predictions.
It's not a "gotcha" thing or an "I told you so" exercise. I'm just curious after all the hollering and screaming, predicting and arguing, those dead-sure of themselves and other's who were sitting-on-the-fence about the Cowboys draft fortunes.

For the record, I'm gonna' put my "I have no problems with this draft" grade on it. Nothing special, but not bad at all. So far, I give it a "B"............
