So what do we think about Tolbert?

Of course. However, what he lacks is the burst and agility to consistently create separation and doesn't particularly have great deep speed. So, what are you pointing at to make you think he can be a #2, or a high quality 3?
Its easy to look at his deficiencies but when WR cant get separation you can look at his attributes and/or coaching, Is he the fasted no, best route runner no, but he has 42 rec, 482 yards and 6 TDs. From a coaching stand point if I am trying to utilize him - then lets start with formations why not use more bunch formations, more motion to get more separation. Schematically, lets run more rub routes or bubbles. Tolbert lack of consistency is all about him, its also lack of innovation to get him in the mix. Tolberts numbers are better than Tim Patrick who is also a 3rd WR but B. Johnson is get him good touches even having Jameson and St. Brown and Laporta. I am not in disagreement with some of your views but I dont think he is a waste or doesnt offer potential. I feel the scheme is too bland and based of having more talent vs schematically getting more out what you have.

He has a skillset, doesnt have to be theirs. I was comparing the roles , you dont have to possess their skillset to fit their role. He is a 3rd option right now at best. He is a possession WR, who is still developing. I remember when Crayton was the 3rd WR and he was solid, but when there were injuries he got reps at 2nd WR and he just wasnt that guy. Same situation. Dallas needs to use him better in the role he is vs taking him out the game or giving up on him. Which is another issue with MM and the offense, understanding what you have and what they strengths are and using them vs trying to beg hole into what you do.
I really dont know how else you use Tolbert. His strengths are really running those north/south routes from the tree, which fits exactly with what the Cowboys have ran most of the season. Hes a solid deep ball guy, he is also a great on those comeback routes. They've also had some success running him on crossers with play action, the Carolina game TD comes to mind. Overall though there just isnt enough that Tolbert does well to justify getting him a ton of snaps right now. I think there is a role for the guy, but I think he is starting to fall down the list with Cooks back, Turpin showing improvement this year, and even Flournoy looking pretty good against Tampa.

Yeah hes mostly a comeback route guy and needs to develop another plus skill to really be a legitimate 2nd option in the pass game. What the previous posted failed to add to the stats were how many routes each of the listed players ran in order to get those yards and touches....

Higgins - 363 routes
Williams - 413 routes
Bateman - 404 routes
Dobbs - 329 routes
Lockett - 505 routes
Tolbert - 508 routes

Tolbert has the worst numbers with the most routes ran. The only real comparable player there is Tyler Lockett who is more of the 3rd option with Seattle, is north of 30, and his number suggest he is in decline as his Y/G have gone down each year since 2021.
Nice post....

He is a 3/4 type of guy. Decent. Not a difference maker. Dallas needs a 2 that compliments Lamb and Tolbert. They need a pure burner.
Yes and possibly though that is something I remember all that talk used to be about Cedric Wilson and Noah brown and they all ended up contributing in some games you need those guys on your team you literally the NFL is full of them you have to have role players nobody builds a 63 man roster with pro bowlers it just doesn't happen I'm not what you expect I I know the guys not gonna be at clear #2 here ever and yes we need to draft another guy that doesn't mean he doesn't have a future here or in the NFL literally the NFL is littered with dudes like this everyone calls guys like this Jags they don't realize that the NFL 70% of them are made-up of average guys making average salaries and contributing in small ways but they all have significant roles when it comes to building a roster that has a roster limit and a hard salary cap that's top heavy and money paid to a handful of players like 10 to 15 of your players on a 60 man roster make almost all the money so you have to have a way to build underneath them that's where depth comes in and we're talking about can this guy be part of that depth and I say yes he probably can you have to take the time it literally I said Noah brown Cedric Wilson hell even miles Austin took three years before he ever even caught a pass in the NFL and look what he had a couple really good years...

Sometimes it just takes some patience and the fan base doesn't have any say in it I know you guys think you do but you don't it's what the coaches think of the guy so we'll see the guy who needs to get more snacks and more time on the field at wide receiver would be one that guy is being underutilized up until he needs more not the gimmick **** behind the line of scrimmage he needs more routes because he is one of our only big time threats as far as taking the top off a defense about getting open in space and I think you'll have a big role come Sunday at noon against the Philadelphia Eagles because lamb isn't there so if you move up cooks I think turpin's your number two guy they need to run a lot of three tight end sets in my opinion in order to make up for lamb and let these tight ends let's see what they got..

Now we get to see how Cooks, Tolbert, Turpin, and Ferguson can work the field for a game.

I like him as third WR. But I wouldn't pay him to stay, he's very easy to repalce imho

High 3, maybe a low 2 next year if he continues to develope.

An All Pro 1st Rd pick hooked up when he left and given chances the 4th season.

To me, Tolbert is solid depth. Not exceptional at anything but pretty solid. He's a guy to keep but always be on the lookout for an upgrade. The good news is with all the holes on the roster, we can wait to replace him. There's no rush to do it immediately. He also kind of reminds me of Patrick Crayton.

You here are full of crap, you tell me what 1st round Dallas WR that became All Pro when he was picked up from Dallas in his 4th season. Smart guy, you are supposed to have been around long enough to be already familiar. Learn reasonable English or keep your implied insults to yourself.

Interested in gold digging culture are you? Tell us all about the Treasury...or even Aztec migration back and fourth to Utah.

Michael Watson Sherrard was taken in 1968 by Dallas in the first round. But you knew that, right. He caught 3 passes for 40 yards and was a part of the Super Bowl XXIV winning team.[5]

I have a hard time evaluating this guy. He has made some huge plays this season like the winning TD in Pitt and some big time jump ball catches - he was good again against the Bucs, but he goes nearly silent for games at a time.

Tolbert’s on track for a respectable season for a #3 receiver, but for most of the year he’s been our defacto #2:

47 receptions - 550 yds - 6 TDs

He does not have a great standout trait, but seems to do everything at an acceptable level. I think by year 3 we can say a player is who he is and likely won’t develop much more, so I think what we’re looking at is his peak.

Moving forward I view him as an average 3rd or 4th receiver that has a place on this team, but he should not stop the Cowboys from looking to add a quality receiver or two above him on the depth chart in

In the modern NFL, your 3rd receiver is essentially a starter given how much time teams spend in 11 personnel, and I think Dallas really needs to upgrade at WR 2 and 3 in order to field a truly competitive roster. Do you think Tolbert fits in long term?
Inconsistent
