So who saw the Lost season finale?

IMO, best show on TV, network or cable.

Loved every minute of the second season finale. Thought it was better than the first season finale. Answered a lot of questions but brought up just as many new ones.

I saw it. Also love Lost and think its the best show on TV.

However, I thought the finale was garbage. The questions they answered were answered poorly in my opinion.

Did it really? It gave the impression of answering some questions, but I don't think it really answered any, except for maybe what brought the plane down... although that wasn't really a big question.

I thought the first season was great... but this season was frustrating to me in a lot of ways. Too many meaningless flashbacks.

My favorites are, in no particular order:
The Office
Sopranos (bad season this year, though)
Curb your Enthusiasm
My Name is Earl
24
Entourage

Lost makes the TIVO list, but I thought this season lacked something.

I was reading a Lost message board and a poster made a very interesting point. He said he could forgive the show many things: far-fetched plot points, dodgy acting, etc, but the one thing he couldn't forgive was the writers making it up as they went along. I feel that's been the case in the second season; you just get the sense that they don't know where they are heading with certain plot strands.

The best shows (present and past):

The Sopranos (by a mile)
24 (haphazard at times but impossible to stop watching)
The Office (British version of course)
Trailer Park Boys
and the guilty admission...The O.C.

It almost seemed like this entire season was just killing time. This series had the makings of one of the greatest two year shows ever. It just seems like they are trying to stretch two years' worth of storyline into four seasons.

I agree with that.

The other theory I have is that they had an idea and people figured it out, so they changed gears. Purgatory, for example, would have been a great explanation and storyline.

What did the whole deal with the other half of the plane bring to the story? They're all dead with the possible exception of Ecko aren't they? They could have done everything with characters already on the island that they don't use.

I hope they don't have the three escape right away then waste another season on the newcomers that are sure to come because they didn't push the button. (they are auditioning new actresses as we speak).

Of those shows, I would only put The Sopranos and 24 on Lost's level. I love The Office and My Name Is Earl, but honestly, I could skip a season and pick up the DVD collection. Lost is one of those shows like 24 or The Sopranos that I must watch every week or go crazy. :D

Also, as far as important questions answered:

We now know who the true leader is of the others.
We know why they crashed.
We know what the counter does when it's not reset.
We know Walt's fate.

A lot of questions were answered. :)

I'm surprised you feel that way. To me, Lost has never felt like they were making the story up. Even in season two's finale, you get to watch Desmond's background and see how everything that happened in season one's finale was already planned for season two's finale. Not saying that don't make some of it up as they go, but I think there is definitely a plan, the network just makes them prolong it as long as possible for the ratings. The only thing that bothers me about Lost are the background flashbacks. I feel they are getting too cliche. They should have a few episodes without them. Nothing worse than being known as the series with the catch.

I was a little miffed at that episode too. That was the slow period of season two. I thought it was nothing more than a trick for fresh blood. You're right, most of the people they introduced on the other half of the plane are dead now. I thought there were some interesting characters that lost valuable screentime (such as Sayeed and the Korean couple) because of the new crew members. At least they introduced Ecko, he is easily one of my fave islanders. I wish they wouldn't have killed Anna Lucia though. LOL Was thinking the same thing about the button. They now have a convenient excuse to introduce another wrecked plane.

See I think they just gave us teasers for every one of those.

Is Fake Henry really the leader? He seemed genuinely scared of someone. Perhaps he is the leader of the Others on the island. No one even knows what the Others are yet.

Why did they crash? They suggested that, but again, not a sure thing. How does a EMP tear a plane apart? The one line "explanation" that there is an EMP buildup that has to be released every 108 minutes is weak at best. So, where does it go if it is released? What happens if it isn't released? What does the key do? Nothing was answered there, just more things to chase.

What does the counter do when its not reset? They turned the key before it did whatever it was going to do. Which was what exactly?

Walt's fate? If that is the end of the Walt story, it was terrible. Same for Micheal.

This show is popular in part because of its attention to detail. The idea that things would dove tail together nicely (since they had in the past). The finale sort of answered some stuff, but not completely and left every single thing open ended to be more fully explained next year.

I really think they got the edict from ABC to make sure to drag it out a couple more years.

That's a pretty spot-on analysis.

Get season one on DVD. You'll get hooked. I can't wait for season two to come out on DVD. I will watch the episode with Gabriella over and over and over.

Don't let my negativity on the finale keep you from watching it. Its been so good in the past, I expected more.

I actually didn't watch any of the first season on TV except the season finale. I thought it looked interesting, so I got the DVDs. I watched the entire first season in about three days.

Its an interesting, original show. I do think they got pressure to drag what could have been a good three season show into something longer.

I'm drawing a complete blank. Which one was Gabriella again?
