I remember when they used to be the LA Raiders and half the stadium would be wearing blue when the boys showed up.

The ones in black may have had idgits strategy. Under cover boys fans.

It's weird, because when you talk football, you're pretty much a *******. But when you talk all macho about what clothes you'll wear and when, you suddenly seem awsome to me. You're like a shark, riding an elephant, wearing a Cowboys jersey. Just trampling and eating everything you see.

Mods, can we get a straight-ghetto wanksta smiley that we can use whenever we want to reply to Rampage to let him know how impressive he is when he talks about representing via clothes?
so is every person who wears cowboy clothes to the game tommorrow gonna get beat up? that's what you're implying. look at these guys oh so scary.... stop acting like a little girl and grow a pair.

Thanks for the advice, fellas, much appreciated... now kiss and make up. :)

I've heard some pretty bad stories (and have taken my share of verbal abuse at the Coliseum myself) but I'm assuming (hoping?) that the fans will lighten up a bit for a preseason game.

I'll keep most of my rowdy cheers inside, and I'll keep any bantering between myself and the silver 'n black at a friendly tone. Not sure yet if I'll keep my gear on after the game.

I agree with Rampage's point that it's generally the ones who talk crap back or the ones who boldly aggravate the fans who get the worst of it.

But at the same time, Idgit is correct that the reputation of the Raiders fans isn't merely a myth... they are a different breed. And it has become a cultural trend, for some of these Raiders fans, to behave like a jerk to other fans. We wouldn't be having this discussion if it were a Cowboys-49ers game I was going to.

How's that for towing the line? :D

Just scored cheap tickets for not-so-cheap seats, so I'll be there. :starspin

And yes, I'll be wearing my Cowboys gear, complete with Romo jersey. I'll be with a friend who's a Raiders fan and, c'mon, it's preseason... they can't beat me up too badly at a preseason game, right? :)

Right? :nervous:

I'm telling you: last game I went to, a middle-aged woman. Raider fan. With another Raider fan. In the parking lot, surrounded by 4 big, angry looking thugs, was getting shoved and threatened for wearing a blue jacket over her Raider gear because it was a late regular-season Viking game (one the Raiders won, btw). I only saw her in the parking lot after she was surrounded, but she wasn't making eye contact, she was scared, and I think it was highly unlikely she'd been talking ****.

I was walking behind doing the mental math on what I would do when fists came out when a girlfriend of one of the thugs shrieked at the others to let the lady alone. They eventually listened. Eventually.

I'd attended the pregame and the game sporting a Vikings jersey in solidarity to my friend who's a lifelong Vikes fan. I endured the thrown beers and the insults. Got yelled at in the bathroom, all of that. That was kind of fun. When the game ended, I handed the jersey to my friend and walked out of the stadium in my black t-shirt.

I don't know that anything necessarily would happen to you in a Cowboy jersey in preseason. You might just whistle your way to your car with people calling you names. That probably happens more often than not, though generally, most people take off their colors on their way back to their car. There will be groups in the parking lot, though, looking specifically to jump Cowboy fans. More than one. If you're wearing a jersey you will be a target, and it's not going to matter if you're walking with a Raider fan or have a nice personality.

I'm 6"0 tall, 160 pounds. ( not a big guy to say the least )

If I went to this game there is no way in hell I would take off my cowboys gear .

I highly doubt raiders fans are really the way you make them out to be.

You talk as if they were a huge gang waiting to just jump on someone for Jo reason.

Wear your Cowboys jersey proudly and be cool... Don't start anything and don't smart off whenever a raiders fan heckles you. I'm sure you will be just fine.

I'm 6', 220, and was an amateur kickboxer in college. It's not a question of bravery. Richmond CA typically has the highest murder-rate in California. You can doubt it all you want, and you may end up being just fine, but the risk is very real. Being cool and not smarting off as nothing to do with anything.

you should work for cnn and report all the "terrorist threats" cause you do a good job of overreacting and trying to keep people scared.:laugh2:

Really, weleyc? Those were your thoughts exactly? That's so weird. It's like the two of you are on the same wavelength or something.

What possible reason would I have for trying to scare somebody on a message board about OAK coliseum? I've made my point, and it's pretty clear, at least, that Nav's got enough common sense that he's not going to invite trouble, but you jokers don't have any idea what you're talking about.

This just proves my belief that Raiders fans are immature idiots who need to get lives. Beating up an old lady who was wearing a Raider jersey? Whooo! A bunch of tough guys. By the way, if her jacket was blue, I don't see the problem since the Vikings wear purple and all.

It was absurd. The jacket was a little bit purplish, but she had all black on underneath and the day was just cold.

Most of the Raider fans are good natured football hooligans like you'd find in any stadium, but there are enough of them who are legit gangbangers that there's no point in tempting them. It's not your normal football thing where everybody loves their teams and you just need to keep it respectful, and it's not the guys that wear the spiked shoulder pads that you need to look out for.
