Here is the scenario guys. In soccer there are games called classics. Alot of countries have 2 or 3(sometimes more) games called classics. Each classic has a diffrent name for it. But only one is considered the super clasic. The biggest game of the year in that country. For example, Barcelon vs Real Madrid in Spain, Boca Jrs vs River Plate in Argentina, and Penarol vs Nacional in Uruguay. Ok with me so far. Ok now, in Mexico for example they have 3 clasicos. America vs Chivas the super classic, Tigres vs Monterrey is the clasico regiomontano or region of mountains classic. Ok now if the NFL had matches called classics say 4. Which 4 games would you consider the most important games as classics and what name would you give that classic. Would the Commanders vs cowboys be considered a classic. Classics involve huge rivalries. Not rivalries that die and comeback. Not rivals that were rivals 30 years ago. But rivals that had withstood the test of time. Games that still catch people's intrest and attention no matter how good or bad they are doing. That is the intangible of soccer classic. Anyways I would put cowboys vs Commanders as a classic I just don't know what to call it. I thought I should bring this topic up because I love soccer and love football and I think this is one element in the nfl that is missing in my eyes. Don't know if any of you find this intresting but what do the rest of you think.

Cowboys - Commanders.

If Jerry was forced by the league to keep one NFC East match up in a reshuffle of the Cowboys to another division he would probably keep the Commanders.

Too much history, classic rivalry, culturally accepted opposition (Cowboys vs Indians - no racism intended just a cultural paradigm) and two owners who are prepared to go to any lengths to one up each other.

the difference between most of the "classicos" and the nfl is that the two teams that participate in the soccer rivalries are usually the two best teams in the league every year(don't really follow the mexican league though so dont know about those), and that's why the rivalry has withstood the test of time every year.

that's why i don't think you can get the same type of rivalry in the nfl since the same two teams aren't always going to be the best.

cowboys-Commanders is the biggest for most of you, but I feel that right now, Cowboys-Eagles is bigger for me.

and it's going to constantly change for me. in 5 years down the line, who knows, cowboys-skins may be the biggest rivalry for me or cowboys-giants.

in soccer , the same two teams (four in the premier league) are always one of the best and that adds to the "classico" status.

I believe the difference between ''Clasicos'' in soccer and football, is that in soccer no matter how badly things are going for a team, whomever their hated-rival is the intensity does not change, and will for always be there constantly.

in the NFL, rivalries tend to lower a bit when a team is doing bad. we can probably use the Commanders as an example. they have not been a very good team in a while, and thats why some fans focus more on the giants/eagles than the Commanders.

not sayin its not a rivalry game anymore, its just that intensity rises and lowers so much in football regarding these types of games. (but again, it does not apply to every single fan out there)

my 2Cents.

Right now the classic game in mexican soccer is between two of the worst teams. They just happen to hit a down fall. One of the owners talks alot but all he does is sell players. Makes me appreciate jerry jones more and more, he talks alot but at least he provides.

well derbies or classicos are generally between teams with a long long history of rivalry. A game between Manchester United vs Arsenal is generally gets around 300-500 milllion viewers on TV around the world because their rivalry is considered more prestigous than say Manchester United vs Newcastle. And many of these derbies often pit some sort of social issue into the limelight, for example the Celtic vs Rangers Old Firm derby (when football becomes religion) that gets so much attention or the Boca vs River Plate classicos. I'm a brit trying to get into the NFL and I agree the big time rivalry games are one of the things missing. I've watched NFL games on sky sports 2 and sky sports 3 and even what they described as huge rivalries seem so tame in comparison. I think its because the NFL teams don't have as rich or prestigous of a history as say the AC Milan vs Inter Milan derby. Also there is never more than 1 NFL team in once city...so there is no local rivalries either...

New York has the Giants and Jets...but that's not much of a rivalry.

In terms of on the field play, rivalries in the NFL can be just as much heated as rivalries in soccer.

The only difference is how much the fans are in to it. In soccer (or even College football), the fans are so much more into it which add to the huge rivalry status.

you should start posting in this thread...unless you're a ManU, Chelsea, or Tottenham fan:http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120999

I wouldn't flatter Danny 'boy' like that. Danny wants to be Jerry, who is way ahead of him.

They have them, just not hyped in the same way...But, you're on the right track...A beauty of the reshifting of the conferences is that the NFC East is a classico with each other member...The rivalries between each of the other 3 teams in the division are well known.

By comparison, however, I think it pales compared to those like RM and Barca, IMHO...There is a longer history and issues with politics that transcend even the game in those sorts of classicos.

I do agree, though, it could be marketed in a similar fashion but as it stands each club is marketed in relatively similar ways in American football (Hence why they also share from the same pie in revenue too)...I think if they could, they should market it more like that as they are pretty healthy rivalries we're talking about

Cowboys v Commanders
Packers v Bears
Raiders v Chiefs

There's too much movement and new teams to justify other in this stratosphere.
