"It was the same thing," Marcus Easley said a short time ago. "Everyone's biggest questions were, 'Where did you come from and where have you been?'
If he's still being asked that question after running a 4.46 40 - the seventh fastest time among receivers at the NFL Combine; if he finished tied for eighth in the bench press with 16 reps; if he was fifth in the Broad Jump (10' 3") and fourth (11.50) in the 60-yard shuttle - all of which he did - then it's pretty good bet Easley was being asked those questions post-workouts because NFL people are impressed.
He got that feeling but the Bunnell-Stratford High product and one-time UConn walk-on, isn't taking a thing for granted.
Easley, as you know, wanted to run a 4.3 at the Combine. When he finished he heard the time come in at 4.39 but officially he ran a 4.46.
"I mean it's not terrible," Easley said. "I wanted to do better but it's nothing to hang my head about. I was disappointed that I didn't do a little better in some of the drills. I don't know if was the shoes I was wearing or the field but I kept slipping during those but I hope to do some of that stuff better at Pro Day."
As it stands now, Easley won't run the 40 at Pro Day, he said. He added he could change his mind, though.
Marcus Easley is likely in a good place here. He's big. He's strong. He's fast and he showed all of it at the right time.
"Going to the Combine, a chance to hear my name called on Draft Day...it didn't seem like a possibility until a few months ago. It's been a long four days. I want think about the experience I just had. It only happens once in a lifetime and I'm pretty pleased with how I did. I'm resting a little bit now, will probably start working out at UConn next week. But right now I just want to reflect on the experience I had. It was great."
