I posted this deep in another thread, but felt it worthy of its own thread and discussion.

One of these days, fans will learn that Jerry talks out of both sides of his mouth. To be clear, I like Jerry "the Owner" but have not been a fan of Jerry "the GM" for a long time. That said, Jerry continues to say one thing and then contradict it later, either with other statements or with his actions. He does this because 1) it keeps the Cowboys in the news and 2) it makes him right no matter how the outcome turns out. The reason I mention this is that it appears some fans still do not recognize this. They will say they do, but then post comments that state just the opposite. Jerry wants to be right and the best way to be right between two options is to choose one and "almost" choose the second.

Just a day or two ago we heard how Jerry loves Garrett and cannot imagine him not being our head coach next season. Yet, his actions state otherwise. If he truly believed Garrett was "the Guy", Garrett would have a new contract extension already. The fact that Garrett does not have an extension should tell you all you need to know. We all know Jerry loves Garrett for a variety of debatable reasons and publicly, Jerry is going to support Garrett because 1) it's the smart business/marketing thing to do and 2) if the Cowboys have a break out year he wants to be "right" about not only hiring Garrett but also sticking with him when a lot of fans and the media have wanted Garrett gone for 1-2 years now.

Another example is the "Did not/almost did draft Johnny Manziel" comments he's made since the draft. The Cowboys did not draft him, and right after the draft, Jerry and Co. stated in interview after interview how we made the smart decision based on our team needs. More recently, he has been prodded in interviews to drop more "Jerry-isms" and Jerry being Jerry, he's been more than willing to do just that. He stated that he almost picked Manziel. Another example of talking out of both sides of his mouth. He chose option #1 (Martin), but "almost" chose option #2 (Manziel). If Manziel has a great year, Jerry "almost" drafted him and "probably should have trusted his judgement rather than someone else's".

With the history of questionable Jerry "the GM" decisions behind him, Jerry needs a big win. The best way to get a big win is to be proven right on something where a majority of people (fans, media, etc.) disagree with him. If Garrett does well this season, Jerry gets to hold his head high and say "I told you so". If Garrett does poorly this season, he will hire someone else and the noise produced by the "We told you so" crowd about Garrett will be muffled and forgotten soon after the new hire.

I just wish that he'd shut up and be a great owner. Cowboy fans would love him if he just did that.

I think that he just can't help himself. I think he has the same intentions like other media driven people like the Kardashians and Mylie Cirus for example.

While he did the great thing by not drafting Manziel and he gets props for doing that, then he goes on to say he almost did. Why? Because he loves the media attention and that part of him is annoying. It makes him look like a fool. Look how many other teams passed on JF, but they don't bring it up. I wish he would just keep quiet.

So you are saying that you have "insider" information that Jerry Jones is currently in negotiations to play the lead role in the remake of the 1976 movie Sybil?

Why do you guys care what he says? I've honestly never understood that.

This. And exactly this. I haven't listened to him in years, because he never really says anything anyway, and my view on the Cowboys has been better. If someone pisses you off so much why keep listening to him? They just keep coming back for more. Is Jerry annoying? Definitely. Do I think he makes all the decisions? Nope.

Fair enough. But I've never understood why a fan of this team wouldn't care. He is the principal decision maker and his words and statements provide insight (however murky that insight might be) into this team's decision making.

I don't think Jerry is clever. I don't think his "act" is a ruse. I don't think his statements are deliberate or as calculated as the OP suggests. I believe Jerry is candid and sincere and his comments obscure only because he is not a very polished speaker and not at all a clear thinker.

But to simply ignore the man, is to miss valuable insights, such as his apparently sincere belief that he is afraid Garrett will leave and have success elsewhere, after all the time he squandered spent on his development.

Jerry liking Garrett is not just something Jerry is saying. All of the inside types like Broaddus, Spags, etc. say that Jerry really wants it to work with Garrett. They come on local sports talk radio and talk about this issue often.

Also, Jerry has made many statements this year that indicate that he knows it's a rebuild year. He'll never say that directly in those words, but when you decode what he saying most of the inside types believe that is what he means.

Jerry is just Jerry. A guy who feels the need to constantly remind people that he's a part of things.

He is definitely not a polished speaker. He obviously has never taken the time or money to become better at it & I guess he doesn't care. He'll go get the face lifts to try to look better though.

I think people are just tired of Jerry. He's like one of those teen reality TV shows on MTV.
