Free Agents
Add Greg Hardy and Pernell McPhee

Hardy will play both DE and 3tech DT like he did in Carolina.

Retain

Dez
Carr with a big pay cut
Beasley
Parnell
1 LB of McClain, Durant, Carter
Sterling Moore
Leary/Weems already signed

Going into the draft I'm loaded at DE and have Hardy to play some of the 3tech snaps.

I plan for 1 of Brent, Bishop or T. McClain to step us as the starting 1tech.

Teams find out that Gurly is unlikely to participate in training camp and he drops to the 2nd round.

Trade R1 (27) for R2(37) and R3(101)

R2 (37) Gurley RB
R2 (60) Steven Nelson (73) CB (Ready now type player)
R3 (91) Josh Shaw (88) DB (Could be CB or Safety)
R3(101) Mike Davis (102) RB
R4 (124) Stephone Anthony (128) LB
R5 (155) Kenny Bell (136) WR/Returner

R7 (206)
R7 (208)

7th rounders from this list:
208 FS Chris Hackett
282 LB Max Valles
161 LB Ben Heeney
196 LB Taiwan Jones
216 LB Hayes Pullard
156 LB Zach Hodges
184 OT Jeremiah Poutasi
160 DL Ray Drew
199 DE Deion Barnes
155 FB Jalston Fowler
169 FB Tyler Varga

I would be fine with that if shaw is being drafted with the purpose of switching to FS. Dline would be a strength already. I do think Stephone Anthony goes earlier than that though.

Hackett and Poutasi probably will not be there in the 7th round.

I could live with that, but I can't see Hardy playing for Jason Garrett.

not a fan of any of that to be honest.

from the FA perspective I don't see Dallas chasing any of those FA.
Hardy is expensive and risky.
McPhee has never been a starter and plays OLB in a 3-4 yet would cost starter money.
you are gambling on a lotto win and investing huge.
not the current model.

draft-wise.. lol no. Drafting 2 RBs is fairly insane.
It's another case of you swinging for the fences instead of playing it smart.

the team currently has a 2nd, 5th and UDFA as RBs. They also have a former high pick as a futures guy.
there is zero way they draft TWO running backs in the top 4 rounds.

Nelson makes some sense.
Josh Shaw is both a character concern and likely a position switch to Safety.
Kenny Bell is a decent return prospect but he can't play WR.

Kenny Bell is a decent return prospect but he can't play WR.

Bro, being a Husker fan whom watched every game he played in during his career at Nebraska, I beg to differ. I would have given you the benefit of the doubt if you had switched those roles around. I'm MEH on Kenny as a returner in the NFL. He was actually replaced halfway through the season.

Bell runs terrible routes(outside the go or stop and go routes) and displays next to no agility or quickness. He is a great straight-line runner type.
Name the last quality NFL Nebraska WR?

His straight-line speed gives him a chance as a returner. One cut and go is probably his future. He probably compares somewhat with TWill tho in a less productive and explosive package.

Wanna bet?

It's not about me but NFL teams.
That's be a huge bet they were placing on a repaired ACL.

This guy didn't even let doctors at the combine check him out. That is a medical red flag for every team in the league.
I am sure he'll let some teams have access later but it is very hard for NFL teams to take on a RB in round 1 and guarantee all that money.

I suspect he goes fairly high round 2 AT BEST.
He could go late 3 if his medicals aren't good and handed out to most NFL teams.
Bad ankle injury in 2013 caused 3 games missed and of course the ACL last year.
May not be ready to go until late August.

A team would be drafting an injured player.

I can't even think of the last RB that got drafted R1 and had torn an ACL.

Gurley is a big name and it is easy for a lazy website guy to place him in the late first on his mock.
Harder to see that really happening.
Those teams late r1 want guys who can help them win right now.

Do you plan on Randle not being on the team?

Gurley will be on the PUP to start the season, so they'll keep Randle during that time frame for certain. When Gurley returns it's the winner between Randle and Ryan Williams.

If Gurley is on the board and N.E. or Seattle come up they are a good enough teams to draft him and let him recover. Gurley is not your run of the mill RB.

If we were to add McPhee and Hardy, I wouldn't mind a mock like this.

Rd 1 DT Malcolm Brown
Rd 2 OL Cameron Erving (LG)
Rd 3 RB David Johnson
Rd 4 CB Ladarius Gunter
Rd 5 WDE Deion Barnes
Rd 7 FS Chris Hackett
Rd 7 LB Taiwan Jones
