some good, some bad, some awful

Maybe it's just me but I am not sold on Stewart or Read.

Offense looked good except for missed TD pass and INT in the endzone.

They appear as though they can dominate teams almost at will. I just hope they don't fall into the trap of thinking they can turn it on or off anytime they please.

Special teams coverage is very troubling. Downright frightening.

Bright spots to me? I honestly had been very critical of Brad Johnson but last night he did show me that he has a little left in the tank, however If we have to go many games with him we are in trouble.

Nick Folk. I'm able to actually open my eyes and watch field goal kicks thanks to him.

Sam Hurd is really coming on in my opinion.

Bennett. Maybe he's not the devil after all.

Marcus Spears. Props big guy, we knew you had it in you.

Negatives?

special teams

Coaching staff (other than Garrett) they all just give me an uneasy feeling, big Wade included.

Depth. This was supposed to be a strength but I just don't see it.

It's preseason. Probably should ban this hoax perpetrated the fans.

That one good drive came after the awful INT by Romo, so it was a momentum thing. We basically dominated them early on.

Define guys please, I think we all pretty much know about the "sucking ability" of our special teams. And as Mamacita said, that momentum swing was big for them.

Cowboys offense is starting to pull it all together and should be okay on opening day. They may even be better this year than last which should scare most teams in the league.

The defense looks passive and reactionary....why? I think the defense will come around with focus and effort....maybe some player adjustments. Just hope this can happen soon.

And the special teams units are the worst in the league and in the cowboys entire franchise history. The special teams under Bruce Read and Phillips, well, they suck. In fact, they must get better to only suck. I think Phillips not firing Read for his coaching performance in this area is a reflection of Phillips management decision making ability....poor executive material if you can not make the correct tough decisions.:mad::mad:

The defense looks passive and reactionary, because in the preseason teams do not show all the blitz's and stunts that they have. Why show them, when nothing is on the line.

Some people don't seem to understand that teams play VERY VERY vanilla in the preseason, and at times even PURPOSELY put players in positions that they are bound to FAIL, for one reason and one reason only to see how they react, and how they bounce back.

I don't understand that why would the team put players in position to fail. Everyone keeps seeing that the preseason is vanilla but the only vanilla defense I have seen so far is the cowboys everyone else has been blitzing like no tomorrow.

Why does everyone keep saying our "special teams" stink, when it's really only one of the special teams?

Because they're Cowboy fans and they over-react at everything.

What about the Amendola and Stanback fumbles?

Are they part of Special Teams?

Are they going to be our primary return guys? (Or, in Amendola's case, make the team?)

Or do we say our passing game stinks because Richard Bartel has a 52.5 rating and Mike Jefferson droppped an easy pass?

Yep.

You figured it out Adam...

Our passing game is in shambles. :D

For the life of me, I don't understand why we can't be FLAT OUT dominant on defense. Parcells' couldn't make us that way, Wade didn't do it his first year, maybe we will be this year, but who knows.

Yea i know Clove im thinking the same way. People on here think im too negative towards the defense, but we should be dominating with this talent on the defense. Its just frustrating

Before we start getting frustrated about not having a dominating defense, lets get Newman healthy AND get to the regular season when we actually USE the whole defense, not just 1/5 of our defensive scheme.

The reason that the team puts players in a position to fail, because it is a chance to see where they are as a player. As well as being a great teaching opportunity. Look at us matching Mike Jenkins up man to man against Brandon Marshall most of the Denver game. Do you really think that Wade Phillips really thought that Jenkins could truly hold his own against Marshall? Or that he would ever even consider matching him up man to man if it was a regular season game.

There is a difference between being a vanilla defense, and blitzing alot. You can most certainly run a vanilla defense but still blitz quite often. It is about what blitzes you use, and what type of blitzes you use.

Well Jenkins looked horrible against Marshall and I don't think they set him up for failure either. A lot is expected from first round picks and Jenkins is lucky he not getting thrown in the fire early. If we need a CB that could start right now we wouldn't have drafted Jenkins.

So which blitzes would make the game more/less vanilla. It just seems like some of the other teams are really letting those blitzes fly off in pre season something we we're criticized for last season.

Logic, it's a wonderful thing. Thank you so much!!
