I talked with someone from the Chargers today and they expect the Cowboys to make a strong push for unrestricted free agent linebacker Carlos Polk. According to this person, Phillips has always been very high on Polk and believes he's improved his pass rushing skills to the point where he's ready to breakout. This person also told me that if Phillips was still in San Diego, he would have made a strong push for the Chargers to re-sign Polk. Just something to keep your eye on once free agency starts. Polk is actually going to draw a lot of attention on the open market (Jets and Pats rumored to also be interested) but Phillip's good relationship with Polk could give the Cowboys the edge in signing him and he wouldn't break the bank.

A 30-year-old linebacker with three career sacks is ready to break out as a pass-rusher??

Are these the same guys who told you that Turner was going to be our head coach, and that Rivera and Singletary were among the frontrunners, or that Oliver Hoyte was one of the top 3 ILB's in the draft?

Just want to know how seriously to take this.

I wonder what the signing of another OLB pass rusher type is going to do to the playing time of Carp and Burnett.

was polk a starter last year?

He has started three games in his career -- all last year, during Merroidman's suspension.

No kidding. And one who was slow to start with. (I'm a Nebraska fan.)

Polk is okay, but he's more a big slugger like Bradie James. I don't think he's ever going to become a great or even pretty good passrusher.

But hey, I'm sure A.J. Smith told doomsday81 this news personally, so you never know.

Missed one season with achille's tendon tear and another with a torn up shoulder.

Wouldn't suprise me with Lacewell back at VR.

Give me 2 Marcellus Wiley's before this guy.

Carlos Polk was my boy in college.

He was very good at Nebraska.

If hes brought here for depth that would be ok but hes shown nothing as of yet and hes 30.

Guy just looks like a linebacker.

I'm pretty sure d81 is AJ Smith.

Which explains how they handled the Rivers to Brees situation so wonderfully, and how they got so much out of that in return.

I doubt there's room for Polk. We need ILB more than OLB. Phillips my indeed hold him in high esteem, but that doesn't necessarily mean here he comes. Maybe he will. Who knows?

I have more doubt than faith in this.

Maybe.

I'll have to see it to believe it that Greg Ellis can come back from that injury at his age.

I agree. Carpenter can play ILB IMO so a lot depends on what we ultimatly decide to do there I think.

I'm still interested in a player like Banta-Cain. Of course, I don't know that New England won't decide to sign him or that we might decide to go another way with Carp.
