doomsday81 is not AJ Smith. AJ Smith likes Wade Phillips...

I do believe that Dallas will be looking for more LBs, but I don't know exactly what they will be looking for.

I wonder what roles the guys already here will play? Will Carpenter and Burnett move inside? Will Wade want to move someone like Akin outside? Can Ellis come back and be effective? I would love to know how he views these guys.

Maybe.

I'll have to see it to believe it that Greg Ellis can come back from that injury at his age.
I don't believe I said Ellis was coming back and to be an OLB, but thanks.

Are you saying that you don't think that Ellis is coming back? Or are you saying that you don't think Ellis will be able to play LB after coming back from this injury?

I for one, do not think Ellis will be back. I doubt he can play OLB after his injury. He could still be effective as a DE on a 4-3 team. I actually don't think we are in bad shape at LB with or without ellis. Ware, Akin, Burnett Carp, James, Fowler and Glymph.. I could live with that as our LB core.

I have my doubts he will be back, and if he does come back I think he's a pass rush specialist at LDE, not a SOLB.

Oh, one more thing. If yet another 3-4 oriented Head Coach keeps Al Singleton I am going to laugh my rear end off.

Wasn't he cut two years ago? I understand that he has no value.

That's the crow bet that never got paid up by someone.

Just when you think his credibility couldn't possibly take another dive.

:lmao2:

It still has to happen, but I am already enjoying the possibility.

Are these the same guys who told you that Turner was going to be our head coach, and that Rivera and Singletary were among the frontrunners, or that Oliver Hoyte was one of the top 3 ILB's in the draft?

Just want to know how seriously to take this.

I never said that. See, this shows the intelligence of some of you. I wrote that people told me either Rivera or Singletary would be good fits as head coaches but I also said in no way were they predicting what Jones would do. If you want, I will go back and find it and the person who is wrong has to leave the board for good. And I said that about Hoyte. No one told me that, so that makes you 0-2. It was my opinion. Want to try again smart guy? By the way, didn't he make the team as an undrafted free agent?

I firmly believe our defense would have been exposed even had Ellis not been injured. Sure he would have provided more pass rush but Brees would have just dumped it off to Bush out in the flat while Ellis chased after him. I was suprised more teams didn't try this while he was in there.

Hey, good memory. Thanks for playing:

I was talking to some people in the NFL and they were giving me their thoughts about the Cowboys coaching vacancy. Keep in mind, these aren't "insiders" like Mort so they have no clue on who Jerry Jones is going to hire, they are just football people giving their opinion on who would be the best choice. To a man, they all laughed at Turner being the head coach and said they couldn't possibly see Jones handing this team over to him. The two names that the people I talked to said should really be considered are Ron Rivera and Mike Singletary. I was told both of thse guys would bring a hard nosed approach to the Cowboys and put something in place that the team sorely needs and hasn't had in a while: a long term plan. Anyway, they seem to think Rivera and Singletary will both make great head coaches some day and should be high on the Cowboys list. Keep in mind, this isn't my opinion, I'm just passing this info along as an FYI. Neither of these guys could be on the Cowboys radar, they are just two coaches who some around the league think will do a good job when their time comes.

For whatever it's worth, that's the role I see for him as well. I think Jerry will bring him back almost out of loyalty, as well as his leadership and ability to get after the QB. I don't really expect him to have as big of a role as he had before, although I believe he still has a role...

I really am curious to see what this group of LBs will look like next year?

It was great information (particularly how Hoyte, from your extensive film evaluation, was a top 3 ILB), but nothing like the "Wade might be interested in one of his former players who is a free agent" scoop. Good lookin' out.

ok.......if you do have the insider info....dont come here with Carlos Polk.....he blows.....if you are gonna bring some juice to the table....make it the real deal.....not that generic orange drink that us poor folk had to buy when we were growing up....

the real juice with pulp would be OG Kris Dielman
the real juice no pulp would be LB Randall Godfrey

He has started three games in his career -- all last year, during Merroidman's suspension.

And had more sacks than either of our starting DEs, right?
He seems like a Boiman type. 'Course, Boiman has a superbowl ring and a cool million from Dallas.

I talked with someone from the Chargers today and they expect the Cowboys to make a strong push for unrestricted free agent linebacker Carlos Polk. According to this person, Phillips has always been very high on Polk and believes he's improved his pass rushing skills to the point where he's ready to breakout. This person also told me that if Phillips was still in San Diego, he would have made a strong push for the Chargers to re-sign Polk. Just something to keep your eye on once free agency starts. Polk is actually going to draw a lot of attention on the open market (Jets and Pats rumored to also be interested) but Phillip's good relationship with Polk could give the Cowboys the edge in signing him and he wouldn't break the bank.

You have Chris Mortenson's ego with out Chris Mortenson's rolodex......sources here, sources there i have not seen one of your sources come through yet (i may have missed one)

Your insider thought the "Polk story" was bigger and more important than the pending Schottenheimer firing?

What are you talking about buddy? Why are you hating on someone that is giving you inside info. Doom has been here for allmost a year and he has hit on about 95% of the things he has reported. I can make a whole website on the things that he has told me that have come true. Dont hat on Dooms just becuase he is trying to help us die hards out. If you dont wonna hear what he has to say than you dont have to open the tread. Go start a TO thread or something.

Hows it going Dooms, Thanks for the info. Do you think that we will be able to sign some Charger assistants now that Marty got canned? Any news on Dielman, is Wade gonna try to pursue him?
