Some late offseason thoughts

I disagree with a lot of this you guys really think there's so many unknowns here and there's not that many I can bet you out of the starting 44 there's only two positions that are truly up for grabs that we don't really know the order of the depth chart that will be running back and defensive interior tackle mostly the nose tackle spot..

Then the big question mark is obviously because a health is at corner.

Just about everything else is set.

.QB- Dak, who cares about the rest... SET

WR-Lamb, Pickens, Tolbert and Turpin SET 4 depth TBD

TE-Furgeson, schoon and TBD? Stephens , ford? Pretty much the same as last year starters SET

OL- Unless something changes but close to Guyton-Smith-BB-Booker-Steele.... swing G/C is Hoffman/Bass Jones, swing tackles Richards and? SET

FB-Hunter SET or cut no FB

RB wide open great camp battle for fans to watch. could end up with surprise change IE in comes Chubb!!

STs -Anger, Turpin, LS, and Aubrey all set

DE-Pass fits- Parsons and Fowler rotates with EZE and Sam

DE-run fits Kneeland, wheat, and Turner

DT 3t Osa and Thomas rotate

IDT/NT wide open- competition w/ rogers, Toia, Mazi , Daxson, and Tommy A..

S-Wilson, Hooker, bell and Thomas

Lbers- Sandborn, Liafu, Murray and they will fill in with maybe clark, vigil, johnson , james etc.. In my opinion though I like the linebacker room you guys could keep talking about as if it's so unsettled that it's wide open and we're just going to be too much of a committee and it's not gonna be very good I disagree I think it's a strong room especially when our defensive coordinator is a linebacker whisperer he will figure out the best rotation... There's a lot to choose from for the fourth spot until Overshown gets back.

Corners- bland and?? Yes, that's the other position that I'm completely unsure of but I believe Revel will be ready to start the season, so will we put blame back in his natural position so he's at his strongest strength and then allow Elam and Carson to work until diggs and Butler get back?

So, OCB Revel and? slot- Bland? Gilmore or a trade for a CB is possible.

I just see it different than everyone else.. It will be a fun preseason nice to hear from camp but really there's not going to be a lot of surprises not in my opinion.

Going into training camp these in bold positions as the only real unknown battles, I believe we have enough bodies, we just got to figure out the depth chart it's the only?

Toll team in my opinion there could be some surprises but this is the only ? going Into camp...

I don't see this as that big a deal ..

there's so little? And really it only being at three positions the rest of it is for lower maneuvering guys fighting for backup spots,

i'm not going to talk about those but they're on the team I'm just talking about we're pretty set.

This is the same FO that decided that Rico Dowdle was "their guy" over Derrick Henry that they could have gotten for 7 million......the same guy that went for 1930 yards last season
still sickening. This stretch from right before the GB game (and all the optimism i had) to this offseason has been just repeated kicks in the nuts.

They did not decide Rico was their guy. They did not figure that out until like week 5 or 6.

The Defense and O-Line are still suspect.

We have all Corners coming off major injuries with only a JAG like Elam added. Safety is not looking good too.
LB is highly questionable and so is DT.

OT is also questionable and Beebe needs to improve at C in year 2.

RB is also questionable with 4 new backs added. Two Journeymen and two late Picks.

I hope Mafah can bring some Henry vibes to the team.

An actual honest and accurate assessment.
Great job.

- Pre draft they were Breece Hall was one of the guys they were inquiring about. Now they are apparently not interested. For me this speaks to what they think of Blue. I believe he is their guy. My guess is when they looked at the top 90, they were thinking 1) The OSU guys wouldnt make it to 44 2) There would be better players than HB's available at 76. The drop off in interest makes me think they had Blue somewhere in that top 90. Honestly, If Hall was available for a 5th, Id still do it

- Another positive to the Pickens trade is moving Tolbert down a notch. Tolbert as a #3 WR should be much more effective and efficient than him as a #2. Especially considering the attention Lamb and Pickens will get. His ability to play both slot and boundary gives our offense alot of flexibility. I think we can get a better version of what we got from Cedric Wilson in 2021 from Tolbert

- Post draft @Cowboyny said Tyler Guyton was the key to the season. I believe both of our past 1st rounders are major keys to our success this year. With Guyton, if we arent able to protect the blindside, it would make our strength on the interior practically moot. Especially if we are hoping to compete with the top tier teams. Smiths continued improvement is very key to our run defense. Where he was the 2nd half of 2024 was good enough for us to stop teams with a middling run game, however quality running teams like Hoston, Philadelphia and Altalnta gashed us. If he can become at minimum Dj Jones that would go a long way

- CB is still a position that may cost us games. Even is Revel has a strong rookie year, you are likely looking at significant playing time from Elam or Carson. Bland is a much better boundry CB than a slot, so playing Elam to me is a last resort. Carson was a good prospect, but got picked on and gave up alot as a rookie. You hope for a year 2 bump, but that bumb making him a quality player is alot to ask. Mukuamu as a big slot may be your best option as a #3 CB until Diggs returns

-LB looks pretty dire to me. There isnt a player in the roster righ now we can look at and say " this is someone we know is giving us solid play". We just dont have any bankable players. We can probably count in progression from Liufau, but is any progression enough to make him a quality every down LB? Sanborn is an ok 2 down LB, but he is more a quality reserve type player. Murray has struggled everywhere he has been. It takes an awful lot of hopium to project anything meaningful from James this year. If we have another significant move up our sleeve, LB might be the place to make it.
I think we have to give some patience with the linebacker positional group. I agree, on paper doesn't look that great, but Eberflus does an excellent job of coaching up the position.

Corner is worrisome cause all of the injuries, not only Diggs/Revel, but Butler was really coming on late last season before his acl tear. Elam has always been a low end starter, but he is still young and could improve. Really like to see Thomas win the nickel job, Eberflus not only wants his nickel to cover, but also set the edge, think Thomas has the best skillset to do that.
