Petitti was the starter at right tackle at the June minicamp, according to Josh Ellis of dallascowboys.com, and Steve Lansdale of The RanchReport.com said Petitti “looked strong [June 2] and lighter on his feet.” Sparano told Mark Wangrin of the Express-News on June 5 that “He’s playing with more strength, and he’s better with his hands, delivering a punch.” Wangrin also reported that after “the toughest year of my life,” Petitti said he took 10 days off before plunging into the off-season “to improve his core strength and endurance.” Petitti’s dad wrote June 7 that his son “is thrilled how all his hard work is paying off in improved on-field performance. No question, the work with [strength coach Joe] Juraszek has improved speed, agility, strength and positioning in pass sets.” Pettiti’s dad also wrote that his son weighed about 335 pounds.
Have not found anything negative about him for some time now. He just might remain the starter over Fabini.

One thing about sink or swim- if you do swim you are never that intimidated again. Of course if you have a lousy scheme, lousy line and no support from your coach you end up like Ramsay. Stick a fork into him- he's done!

Really the ideal situation for the team long term is for Petitti to win the job at RT and let Fabini be the backup swing tackle on game days.

I agree. He'll take some lumps but he'll continue to progress and long term is our best bet without starting all over again.

Exactly.

And I think the kid can keep his job. ;)

I'm sure we'll get some conspiratoristic board members to come up with, "Well Petitti is starting only cos Pittdawg posts on ths Zone". ;)

If a young guy can hack it from the start then you can look forward to many years of NOT HAVING TO WORRY about that position. A coach would just about give anything for that.

Depending on Fabini's health, he is probably the better short term option. If healthy, I think he is a better player than Petitti.

But, if its close, go with the young kid and let the grizzled vet with experience at both tackle positions be the backup.

What sucks is that we may have finally fix RT and we'll soon have to fix LT again.:banghead:

I said may have

We may have?

Based on what?

Until I see Petitti on the field, he will be what he was the last time I saw him.

I'd say that we May have fixed RT based on all of the things that burmafrd mentioned in his original post to start this thread. I have yet to see a player who did not improve from his rookie year with Parcells offseason program...it is one of the things that Parcells is very good at.

That's fine.

ALL indications are that Petitti is much improved. So he probably does have a shot to beat out Fabini. If he does that is better for us in the long run.

Not necessarily. Petitti could end up winning the RT spot for the same reason he won it last year (or similiar reasons).

The ideal situation would be for whoever does win the RT job, wins it cuz they did better then the other candidates, not cuz the other candidates did worse.

All indications are that Fabini is fully healed. He started something like 90 straight games for a team that was either in the playoffs or close to it most of that time- so he is not chopped liver. If Petitti beats him out then Petitti has to be considered at the very least acceptable.
