I'm sure that didn't affect your sleep at all. LOL
On the weekends No as I was usually smashed.
On the week nights, yes.
You heard that sound and you never knew if it was just a training mission, just a small emergency that could be handled by those on duty.
Or if it was a big situation that required all hands on deck like what happened when some Marine Reserves had part of the armored convoy go over the side of a hill/cliff.
So it was kind of annoying when you were sleeping and here it and just woke up on a dime.
On a slightly different topic.
As a medic and in the Ambulance Platoon we often had to cover different things for medical support. Sometimes going out with tankers or other things.
But once in awhile we got something off the beaten path that was fun.
For example once we got to be front row center at the USO show that had a bunch of girls from the Miss USA pag doing a little show.
One time we had some officers from some company that were also sky divers. Somehow they got permission to have a day to sky dive and use army time and transportation to help them. They even secured our services as medics and ambulance drivers.
So we go out on this big field and they take these guys up. One trip they take me up for a ride, the next they take my partner. No we did not get to jump but I wanted to.
So on the last trip (around the 4th or 5th jump) we saw one guy going way off course and not coming close to where the landing field was.
I look at my buddy and say...I think he is going to land right around the troop clinic. He said, how funny would it be if he landed in the middle of the helipad.
So we take off and go looking for the guy.
Sure enough he landed right in the middle of the helipad, which is right behind the clinic.
Only problem was the helipad was wet, can't remember if it was morning or if they had sprayed it off.
When he landed on the pad he broke his leg.
So we put him on a litter and took him to the clinic LOL.
