I can't stand the bye when it happens, but it's needed for sure.
I always liked starting on Labor Day, but the ratings were bad. Wonder if thats changed since they stopped it for that reason. NFL is much more popular now.
Goodells job is to grow revenue every year. When they get stuck, they have two more weeks to play with.
I have zero doubt it'll happen in time.
I also read they went away from the Labor Day weekend, so not to compete with opening weekend for college football games. As many played on that Sunday and Monday also.
So you had TV scheduling as well as a courtesy not to directly compete. Let the fans watch their college opening games, then get fans watching the next week. Not to mention people traveling and could not watch.
Just like they stopped years ago having a special Friday night game. Since college started having Friday games as well. As now they will not have games on Saturday until after the college season is over, until the Bowl games.
