Some post draft thoughts/opinions

Linebacker and Edge are very young throughout.
Young or inexperienced?

Edge has Gary and Houston while LB'ers have Overshown and Dee Winters. I somehow think Clowney may show back up !

IMO a prepared player shouldn't need a vet or at least it is way down at the bottom of their list of needs. That's just the way I see it.

Edge basically has Gary and a bunch of prospects

-Notice outside of Lawrence and our receiver in the 7th rd, Cowboys took players from power conferences-Big10/SEC.

-I think the roster has too much youth at a few positions, would be wise to add a veteran or two. Not so much to become progress stoppers, but help with their development. Perfect world you bring along these players slowly rather than throw them in the fire before they are ready.

-Do believe by the end of camp, Downs is going to be wearing the green dot helmet. His football IQ is off the charts. Keep in mind OSU developed a defense around him not those other great players and he was the leading tackler as a freshman with Alabama.

-Big vote of confidence for our 2nd yr running backs in Mafah and Blue as they decided against drafting another back. The opposite for Schoon, Carson, Marist-all will be fighting to keep their roster spots.

-Think they did a good job to give them some options at key positions. For example, if they move on from a Steele or a Bland next offseason, they have options already in place while they develop this season.

I definitely don't see Over -Youth on Offense - where's the rookie-ness in the offensive units ?

And wheres' the Over- Youth at on defense ?

- Jalen Johnson at safety
- Bland at CB
- Dee Winters (and Robinson?) at middle LB
- Gary at end
- Donovan (in 2nd yr)
- Williams at end
- Clarke at NT

that's 7 starters with NFL game experience.
We'll only have 2 guys with limited/zero NFL game experience in safety Caleb & CB Revel.

- Bland would have to have recurring foot injuries B4 Cowboy decide he's far damaged goods to move on

- Rookie CB Moore would have impress/prove himself (and stay healthy in his own right) for Cowboys
to consider him Bland's replacement.

- Plus we really need to see if Revel himself is a year remove better in his own medical issues
ala ACL recovery.

- And we dunno rookie OT Drew Shelton yet at all. Not even started a snap yet, and he could an offseason or two away from that, to even talk about a Steele replacement.

-CP is suppose to be an excellent developer at the corner position. The hope is that he can develop these players quickly. If Bland proves he is healthy and productive, he isn't going anywhere.

-Yes, the likes of Moore, Bland, Revel have to prove they can be counted on health wise. Durant is a good insurance policy to have on the roster, he may even be the day 1 starter.

-Best case for Shelton this year is to win the swing tackle position from Thomas and get some reps throughout the season. If Shelton/Thomas prove solid, then they have options from moving on from Steele in the future. I don't view Shelton as a project, but not a finished product, either.

Just saying, I think adding a few veterans can help these young prospects in their developmental stage so they aren't forced to play major snaps when they aren't ready.

They have plenty if they wanted to sign the guys.
We only have about $16 mil left and that doesn’t include the draft. The only players left to restructure are Bland and Ferg. Would you want to extend them to make room? I personally wouldn’t.

I am way less worried about the cap and more concerned with just the number of players they can keep. Right now while I do want the 2 I mentioned we do have a lot of numbers at those positions. I feel like they will go as is into camp and then see what happens, how these guys perform, who stays healthy, who do they decide to cut etc. I'd cut Steel and scantling to make room, blue is on my bubble to not make the team. They can sign and push money into void years and move money around if they want that's easy.
