Some post draft thoughts/opinions

I think they were so focused in on getting first-rounders on both sides of the ball. It was more important for them to try to fix their line after adding a defensive game piece that Downs' value didn't matter enough.
I don't think that's the case we all discussed it when the trade happened with the Bengals We all said that that helps the Cowboys because we knew they weren't gonna take two defensive players so regardless of who they took they were never intending to take Downs or another defender So we'll see how it works out for them or us nobody knows how Downs is gonna be or the player they took instead But even fans saw that that trade with the Bengals helped the Cowboys it got rid of Dexter Lawrence and it helped our draft board which had five of what they considered elite defenders and they wanted one of them and they got him in downs that's it that helped us I don't care what the giant sitter didn't do but most of us all saw this coming it's not a big deal I don't know if it's a reach or not we have to see how it works out..

Sure you weren't.

Stephon Gilmore was a great role model ........ and the last one worthy to bring in as a free agent.
First, it wasn't me that brought up the idea of bringing in veterans while the kids learn, although it's ridiculous to suggest there are never situations where that would be a good idea.

Second, the person that did bring it up specifically said in one of his posts that guys like Wagner and Von Miller would be possible options, so no, average or lousy players were not what was being discussed. It's nonsensical to think that was the idea when it was mentioned anyway.

Third, you disproved your own point about Jerry not bringing in top vets when you mentioned Gilmore.

How many years ago was that ....... I'll wait.
2023. That's hardly ancient.

And you argued that it's something Jerry doesn't do, not that it's something Jerry hasn't done in the last 2 years.

And, again, your original argument didn't refer to the quality of veteran, it was against bringing in a veteran at all

I agree there's time and place for it as long as the contracts are team friendly with escalators on playing time and production and you don't overuse them like Washington did with Wagner last year just wore him out he is not at that point in his career but some of those guys could lend a nice stabilizing force in the locker room.. They provide insurance but they're still there there's no rush in getting them there's Devin White on that list as well and we can bring back Clowney regardless of what was said about him fitting in or not There's a lot of options still for those guys it's no rush during this time of the year to bring in these veterans they don't want to come in for Otas or mini camps or unnecessary practices if they don't need to.

And yes that was a good move to bring in Brandon Cooks and Gilmore that year That's all you need sometimes to stabilize a room because in 2023 CD Lamb lit it up with very little protection it was set up very much like Seattle they brought in Cooper Cup for JSNS counterpart not a 35 to $40 million second number one elite receiver that's right II went there..lol But they brought in tank as well they brought in guys that thought they could bring something to team but they didn't have to have excessive snaps..

I'm so crazy to think how Gilmore's injury right before the playoffs actually affected that game against Green Bay a lot and that's Dan Quinn's fault for pivoting too far he overreacted changed his defense and that should have never happened..

Ok let me know when we are gonna bring in all these future hall of fame veterans to teach our young team.

Nobody said we were, so again you're making a nonsense argument. It was a suggestion by a poster that bringing in a few players like that would be a good idea. And it would be.

But, again, you are changing your argument from it would be a bad idea at all to you don't think Jerry will do it.

I would look into signing a few veterans so these kids don't have to be thrown into the fire. Bobby Wagner for example would be an excellent addition as a bridge player. Player like Von Miller would be excellent to have around to help develop these young edge rushers. Jackson started for the Eagles last season and knows the scheme.
Adoree Jackson??? He”s horrible. We want the defense to improve, not regress.

Dee Winters It's far from a prospect He played 17 games last year think about this when's the last starting linebacker we had that played all 17 games literally is a journeyman player that will be a starter so let's remember to add that to the list overshown is not our only linebacker Yes we're very young there for sure but sometimes young is good did you fail to read past maybe what was my long post that stated clearly that when the Cowboys were doing this back in 1990 through maybe 90 two it was built with like 90% young players and only when they were ready where they were one player away or close to it on each side of the ball they made moves when they brought in Haley and Dion they had 1st become a very young aggressive team that was on the brink,.

He did that with youth they did it through trades and the draft i'm not saying that's where we're at now i'm just saying don't exaggerate youth could be a good thing..

But I've been on record saying all offseason is that list that was there 4 weeks ago both for linebackers and edge guys have not really changed one single bit..

I don't think there's a name off that list since this holding pattern post FA frenzy, for the draft..

so there's plenty of players the Cowboys want they can go get, we do not need to make a crazy trade for Brooks ,and waste more draft capital, but yes Okareke, Devin White, Bobby Wagner these guys are there you can go get one at any time just like if they want to bring back Clowney they're there and I believe they're looking over here at what the Cowboys are doing on defense and maybe they want to come here and play..

So if one of these veterans who don't have a lot left in their tank you bring them in under a very team friendly deal maybe escalators on playing time and production and what not how many games played etcetera and just have them play very little snaps but could be there in an emergency yes that we could use some guys like that...

I don't know which one of those would fit best but you'd want one that could really help that young room that makes a lot of sense as well..
At this point in fa, there will be bargains out there looking to latch onto a team.

I like your post and agree pretty much with it . . . except the "too much youth". Youth gives us more physically durable players, more coachable players with fewer things to unlearn, and lastly . . . all important . . . they are cheaper. The early 90's team was young, the mid 70's team was young and both were championship caliber teams.
I agree experience is very important but if those older position players are not teachers then all you have are older players.

Good coaching will make the difference in those young skulls full of teachable mush !
Always good to have veterans put this guys under their wing and show them how to be a professional on and off the field.

IMO, in today' NFL time is a luxury that's rarely given to a player.
If you're not showing anything in your first two to three years... well, you're trade bait or washed.
They are still in that developmental stage, where watching isn't a terrible idea as they learn how to play on this level. No, you aren't doing that with a 3 year player, but a rookie, yes.

I think for now they have the numbers they want. We need to see how things go in camp but i'd love to see Clowney and Wagner join the team.

He played well last year in their scheme. As a reserve, he would add a solid veteran.
No, he did not play well. He was flat out bad. He was picked on every game. Eagle fans couldn’t wait to be rid of him.

Are we sure about that? Just my opinion…but I think it remains to be seen if Blue and Mafa have gained a vote of confidence. I certainly hope they have improved a lot. And we will surely see in due time.

But I also think it would not be a surprise to see us add some a RB or two before camp. And maybe more likely, picking up someone when final cuts are made in early September.
They will want to see what they can do first, how they improved, and attitude and work ethic for Blue. Then may bring in others if need be.

Why would Jerry allow the Eagles to trade up to get Lemon? He purposely helped a division rival to get better. This is typical Jerry. He pulled the same thing that allowed the Eagles to land Devonte Smith. Jerry must be a fan of Roseman.
Smith did not set the NFL on fire though, he is just a solid WR.
We got Micah and look what he has done. He done more for transforming this defense while in GB than when he was here.
Kudos to Jerry.

Lemon, I feel he will not make an impact either. He may be solid like Smith, but not going to fear him.

Downs is most likely the only rookie starter this year.
Everyone else will compete to be part of a rotation. Players like Lawrence and Barham will be used in spot duty based on what they can do well right away while developing other areas of their games.

Lots of experience on the interior DL.
Gary, Eze, Houston, and Williams at OLB/edge.
Winters and Overshown at ILB, possibly an additional vet and James behind them.
CBs from the group of Bland, Bryant, Revel, Butler, etc.
Downs and Thompson at S with depth.

The rookies will fit in perfectly and used to their strengths in spots. We don’t need any of them to start besides Downs.

If I was going to look at any other vets available, I’d consider a LB in case of injury, and I’d consider bringing in another vet at DT.

I might consider a vet OT, but I don’t worry too much about our OTs as Dak has proven he can operate effectively when they break down as long as the guys up the middle stand strong. This is a rebuilding year that will hopefully result in a playoff birth, maybe even a victory. 2027 should be all about fine tuning in free agency and truly making a serious run.
Right.
It is like the guys on the Ticket said on day 3 of the draft. With what Dallas has done in FA and the draft.
It is not who are the starting 11. It is who are your top 15.
