Some pre-combine draft/fa thoughts/opinions

I don't think Bijan will be their top target but they'll draft him if their top targets are off the board.

Same with TE. If Mayer available, they can't pass on Witten 2.0

My guess is that CB is the top target in the 1st; although if Dan Quinn says DT is a must-have, they do whatever it takes to keep Quinn happy. If they sign a legit FA CB then that might change.

Patrick Peterson played for 4M in 2022. I'm in at that price regardless of his age.

Hooker likely stays but Dono probably too expensive to re-sign.

They can decide on Lewis & Gallimore after the draft and maybe after camp.

They'll decide on Tyron immediately. They won't string him out and make him a camp cut. I think he stays due to Steele's availability being unknown. If he stays then no $ spent on OG because the goal will be for Steele to return early in the season, then Tyron moves to LT and Tyler to LG.

Pollard franchised.

It's a near guarantee that they'll acquire a significant veteran WR. They'll pay for receivers. Probably OBJ but I think Houston ends up trading Cooks for a 4th or less.
Both Bijan/Mayer could sit near the top of their draft boards and have the last 1st rd grades.

Cooks is a trade or even a cut target. He is definitely in the mix either way. They do have a lot of comp picks and they won’t hesitate to trade a day 3 pick away.

Think the plan is ultimately move Tyron back to LT, but they still need at worst to add depth as he cannot be counted on to stay healthy for a full season.

I’m not expecting a splash signing like Payne but believe they will resign Hankins and add another in the draft.

I know there’s a school of thought not to take RB early but Robinson is different in my humble opinion they’ve done pretty well in the draft. Could they do better sure. I’m not unhappy with McClay at all. If we can get Two or three starters out of this draft what’s the matter with that
Robinson is a stud. But his success will be heavily dependent on OL play and scheme and elk have the shortest shelf life of any position in the draft.

We’ve drafted fairly well over the years just lean too heavily on need bc we’re borderline asleep in FA. If we keep doing the same we’ll keep seeing more if the same in the playoffs.

Fact is Robinson will probably be a top 10 player on our board, if he’s available and Pollard has not been franchised he’ll almost certainly be the pick. No doubt Robinson will be a stud. Maybe the team will be more active in FA with the money not spent to franchise Pollard. We’ll have an idea of how this team will go after FA.

I'm curious where they will have Robinson, Mayer, Musgrave, and Gibbs on their board. I like Gibbs a lot too. Brugler has Robinson 6, Gibbs 21, Mayer 24, and Musgrave 27. It is going to be real interesting. It actually would be real hard for me to pass on Gibbs. I would hate for Gibbs to end up in Philly. I would hate for the Eagles to get any of these players.

The answer lies with whether they keep Pollard. If he’s gone I think both Robinson and Gibbs come into play. I think Robinson will be a top 10 guy on our board, and Gibbs will be a top 20 guy.

I would have to go with Gibbs over Pollard at one eighth of the cost.

Question I have is who receives 1st rd grades by the team. If one makes it to their selection, they will be sitting atop of their board. Will they take a lesser rated corner who has a 2nd rd grade over them?

Correct me if I'm wrong, can't a team rescind the tag after the draft and make a player a free agent?

what ever doesn't make sense is what dumb and dumber will do. let's face it have they gotten any closer to a championship season since JIMMY left that's a big NO 27 years and counting see you draft after draft and then another draft

I don’t know if I disagreed or not but history is on your side

Hey I get the love for Robinson…he’s a stud. But there’s a stud RB that comes out almost every year and I’m still waiting for 1 to take his team over the hump to win a super bowl.

If we cut Zeke and let Pollard walk I’ll get on board but it won’t be my preference. The fact he is a pretty good pass catcher helps his cause a little bit.

If we tag Pollard and Draft Robinson I’ll probably have a melt down.

They were close in 2022.

what about this?

From everything I've seen so far, at 26 we would be looking at the 6th/7th best CB prospect or if he's available Bijan, the #1 RB and likely with a top 10 grade. I get that RB's are devalued now days with only 1 going in the top 10 in the last 5 years. But I think it's an over reaction to say never take a RB anymore in the first round.

But if you do take one it would need to be later in first. #26 is much different than taking Zeke at #4 overall or even in the top 15 or so. And most years there are still 1-2 taken towards the bottom of round 1. But also it would need to be a back who is a elite, which Bijan seems to be graded as and someone who is head and shoulders better than who you would likely get in the 2nd-4th rounds. This year that is the key issue since it is a very deep RB class. This year Bijan and Gibbs appear to be the clearcut top two backs. Bijan likely going in the first, Gibbs at the very end of the first or early 2nd. If we wait til the 2nd I expect we'd be looking at the #4/#5 prospect. So it comes down to whether the the gap between #1 and #4 / #5 is significant enough.

I don't disagree, but I am saying they aren't going to pass up Robinson if he fell to 26.
Broaddus says he would be the best player on their board at 26 and he's right. He's top 15 in most early mocks I'm seeing.

Robinson a few years ago would of been a top 5 pick in the draft, getting him at 26, would be a huge steal. Say he is gone, I wonder if one of those TE's sit a top of their board, even though they haven't seen it as a high valued position?

I think if they’re willing to take Robinson, that probably means they have let Pollard walk. And in that scenario I think Gibbs becomes a real possibility if Robinson is gone. I would be shocked if he is not a top 20 player on our board.

Think you made a good point about their history of drafting TE too high. Hell, future HOFer Jason Witten was drafted in what 3rd round? As you mentioned RB, C/G and CB are likely their priority targets with the 1st but don't rule out a T they can move to G. Remember what McClay said about Tyler last year..........they how he could play multiple positions on the OLine. I'm guessing they would love to find a mauler with Tyler's physicality.

I was just saying the same exact think on the Avilia thread. Broderick from Georgia fits that profile and is my #1 pick for the Cowboys, but he is expected to go more in the teens. Anton Harrison is the other 1st rd Tackle, but he doesn't have the same positional flex, more of a Tackle only, where they could kick Tyler inside. However, more of a finesse type that is an excellent pass protector, reminds me of Darrishaw from the Vikings.

Torrence from Florida is a Guard only and more of a phone booth player. Leary was also a power Guard, but I remember he could play on the move as well, don't see that with Torrence or Avilia (the next rated Guard). If MM once to get that screen going again, he is going to need lineman who can move and hit moving targets.

With all that said, I think they envision a starting group of Tyron, Tyler, Biaz, Martin, Steele next year once Steele returns from injury. They are going to need a short-term answer at Left Guard until he returns and are going to need a swing Tackle. Wally/Ball are still in the pipeline, but neither have shown they are ready yet. Evan Brown from the Lions a backup G/C started many games last season due to injuries, he might be a good low key signing to replace McGovern who I think will be too costly to retain. The need along the OL might not be that important, but that' relying on Tyron staying healthy and Steele coming back from a late acl tear.
