Early in the game when you have 4th & 1 deep in the heart of the enemy's territory and you elect to kick a FG instead of going for it??? Right there early in the 1Q we told the Vikings that we had zero nads... I know hindsight is 20/20 and all but I was disgusted when Wade made the call even before shankham missed the kick. You go for it and give your offense a chance to make a strong statement early in the game... period.
Throughout the game I found myself on numerous occasions wondering "why are they running that play with that package"... Barber is a North South downhill runner. Why on earth would you think you could get to the edge with his slow lumbering ***? Flozell get hurt and you attempt to block Jared Allen with Jason Witten??? Really??? Why not just insert Free??? It took almost getting our QB killed to finally see Free in there at LT... BTW, I think Free may be the future at LT. I keyed on him the rest of the game and he manned up quite well. On one running play to the left he buried Pat Williams into the ground onto his back after pushing him 5 yards off the LOS.
Some things just aren't sitting well with me today. I'm weary about both our HC and OC. How do you go from what we contributed against the Eagles last week to practically not showing up at all? I would like to think there's something to build upon but just can't wrap my mind around exactly what that something is... My only hope is that this loss hurt Jerry just as much as it did some of us. I hope he isn't content with the status quo. Something has got to change...
I'm with you 100% Bleu. Funny how things change over the course of a season. It was just a few months back that we were arguing about T.O. and I accused you of being on his payroll.
Yesterday was baffling. We were healthy. Our D had been playing lights out. Our O-line was playing well and our QB was playing great.
All of a sudden we couldn't block anybody. Romo didn't have a chance. The calls and packages that they ran plays out of were mind-boggling at times - like you said.
I want to think that we'll build on this for next year, but I don't know. We were a well-balanced team that was hot at the right time. We were freakishly healthy and we still fell very short yesterday. I'm not sure all of that falls into place next year. 2007 to 2008 proved that one year does not carryover into the next like that.
Our team is talented and should be more confident (unless yesterday undid ALL of the good of '09). I'm not sure what catalyst will be there to get us to the next level. Looks like most things will stay the same. That could be good, but probably not great. Problem is...we want great.
