Some things to fix in a hurry before the Eagles game

It was a great win, but let's be blunt:

  • The Cowboys had a nearly flawless four-TD performance from Romo and got 121 yards rushing from Murray, yet still only barely escaped with a win against an opponent that was 3-7.
  • New York dominated the time of possession, roughly 35 minutes to roughly 25 minutes for Dallas.
  • Eli Manning ripped the Cowboys' defense apart as usual for 338 yards and three TDs. If he had seen a wide-open Beckham downfield late in the game, it might have been 400+ yards and four TDs. You don't want to take this into the playoffs.
  • Eli completed 72.5% of his pass attempts.
  • New York's offense was 11 of 16 on third downs.

Sanchez isn't much better than Eli, but the Eagles overall are a much more formidable opponent.

I'm more concerned about our special teams than anything else.

We gave up way too much underneath, and that was even before Beckham burned Carr. I'm OK with underneath passing before they get to the 30 or 40, but it needs to tighten up.

Also, the LBers are still eating for as much as they bit on the PA.

They need to figure out that screen pass or Sproles/Shady will go nuts out of the backfield.

Stack the box and commit to stopping Shady and Sproles. Dare Sanchez to throw the ball. Get the same performance out of the O-Line that they had last night. Get the same performance out of Dwayne Harris on special teams that he had last night. Tell Chip Kelly he looks like a mix between Brian Kelly and Humpty Dumpty. Do these things and Dallas can't lose.

what concerns me is that the beagles will be putting maximum pressure on Romo much like the skins did and you know what happened then. The OL looked below average and Romo got hurt.

Id say that Jerry made it full well and clear that that never ever happens again like that.

So im not too worried.

Murray and the offensive line will have to be the MVP's of this game to win IMO, the eagles will not allow Romo to sit back in the pocket like he did against the Giants. The eagles can be had on the ground, so it's imperative not to get behind on downs with silly penalties.

For the most part Dallas has played screen very good this year. No doubt swing passes and screens out to McCoy and Sproles will be critical

Hand the ball to Murray 30x on Thursday, please. And make a real effort to milk the clock. More than once this year, when the play clock isn't a factor and there is 20 seconds left in the quarter, Dallas has stood around and not run another play. I want to see that again Thursday. Hopefully it frustrates the Eagle offense a little and keeps them out of their rhythm. Let's help our defense a little and minimize number of drives. That would be my thought process.

I have no problem with that unless or until Philly stacks the line and if they want to have 1 on 1 matchups Dallas has to be able to attack it. I fully expect to see Murray get the ball quite a bit but I also expect Dallas to use their full offense to make plays. Great running can set up the big plays down field but only if you are willing to attack.

simply put, the d-line and LBs don't get pressure on 3rd downs in obvious passing situations.. it's not from lack of effort, the talent just isn't there collectively to get to the QB

also, I HATE the way we blitz. Corner blitzes, safety blitzes, zone blitzes, it does not matter, we never get home to the QB. Either Marinelli is too predictable in his tendencies, the schemes are flawed in some way, or our players consistently do not execute them very well in regards to disguise and assignment. (more than likely a combination of all 3)

I'm confident that we'll stop their offense. Even if they decide to throw some gadget plays at us. I look at the Seattle game and I feel confident we'll take care of business.

Sanchez is no Eli but he can throw screens and dump offs,D has got to work on containment on those plays.

We need to limit Hayden's snaps on passing downs. The key to our success is the defense. Once two of NY's offensive linemen left we were able to put pressure on Eli. Our pass rushers need to be more active throughout the game. I'm counting on guys like Lawrence, Spencer & Melton to rise up to the occasion and sack Sanchez quite a bit.

Nothing will be fixed by Thursday. We're stuck with this defense for this year so we better be ready to score 40 points.

The biggest problem I saw on offense was that we went back to classic Garrett 10 yard routes and the receivers rarely beat their defender.
