I am not trying to clog up the fan zone...

I have been meaning to do these after the home games with some stuff from inside the stadium and never find the time.

so here goes.

1. Wade Phillips calm demeanor and defensive intelligence is what has turned this thing around. Wades defense since Denver has looked like we know the play that is coming. It really is a pleasure to watch. We had new players and some moving parts in the secondary early. Now things are stabilized and the head coach/Defensive coordinator should be getting the credit. He deserves it. I am not sure what will happen tomorrow, but as for today and yesterday, he is what appears to be from my viewpoint a calming influence and a good teacher.

2. Our offense I think got a perfect warmup for philly with seattle last week. I felt like watching the game last week that seattle pressed, played 8 in the box and sent linebackers up the middle all night. I think I was the only one that thought we didnt really handle the pressure that welll from seattle, but it helped us last night I think. Getting to see the west coast offense two weeks in a row is a nice thing for us, this week it will be the third.

3. Special Teams are extremly important. Pat Watkins, Victor Butler, Alan ball and Buehler have been outstanding. Last night they did another good job. The hobbs return didnt rattle them. There was a huge moment in the game where Curtis Johnson who was replacing another good special teamer last night in Steve Octavien, got called for what could have been a game changing penalty. Johnson was called for illegal man downfield. Philly would have had the ball at the 2, instead we had to punt again. That is extremely significant. Jackson is extremely talented and explosive, so having to line up a second time and run 50 yards and cover him again, is very difficult. Mcbriar who has also been spectacular boomed another tremendous punt and we covered it well. You really cant say enough about that. Huge play to me.

4. The eagles scored their only Touchdown of the game on a drive where Mike Jenkins injured his wrist and was on the sideline. Alan ball filled in nicely, but surely their ability to complete passes was positively affected by the missing jenkins. He played another outstanding game along with the rest of the secondary. Again, wade phillips and the staff have these guys playing sound fundamental football.

5. The wr. They played the exact game that all of thought this team could play in the offseason. After all the whining and complaining and time spent blaming and laughing at the wr group here in Dallas, we saw exactly what a balanced passing game can do. I have said many times I dont care about Ranking wr by the number system. I dont give a flip who the 1 is. In fact, usually as soon as you start using this notion that is where some of the machoism and ego gets kicked in. Austin one big passing play, crayton one big passing play, roy williams sound all night long, kevin Ogletree......ahh..

6. Kevin Ogletree. As many of you guys know who are here everyday, I view Babe Laufenberg as the number 1 guy in the media who is in the know with this team. He has a sense for knowing plays before they happen and he has an intiimate understanding of what it is we are trying to do.
So when he started talking about Ogletree not only being a player about a month ago, but DYNAMIC playmaker that caught my attention. He made the comment that dont tell me about who you have to sit down, make ogletree active and throw him the ball. He has all the talent and he is ready to go. I know Babe has a close relationship with the garretts. I know he talks to them all the time, I see him on the field during pregame doing it, That was coming from Jason Garrett. Expect to see more of Kevin Ogletree all year. I thought he was going to take hurds job before last weeks game, it took a week longer. Ogletree is now a part of the offense. And so we know, Joe decamillis praised Ogletree when he did his film session this week on the huddle, showing how ogletree sprung a big block for crayton on the TD. The arrow is up for him. The staff trusts and likes him and romo does the same. WR is now a strength on this team. That is fabulous news. Will he have growing pains, no doubt but he is going to make some people happy.

7. Tony Romo. Many of us believe in him completely. I am one of those people. There is not much to say about him, I think he has it all. The way he was talked about in the offseason by cowboys fans, Dallas Media and the national media was Insulting. Watching cowboys legends come out of the woodwork to take shots at him to draw attention to whatever they were promoting at the moment was also disgusting. Is he going to lose again, yep, will he miss some throws, absolutely. But they all do.

8. Marion barber. He doesnt look like the same guy, but I for one thought when philly kicked the field goal the game was over, because of barber. I thought there is no way they stop him, not a chance and he busted two great runs. Another guy I love having on my team.

9. THe offensive line. Good game. The gurode injury scared me to death. I hope he is okay during the week, reaggrivating an mcl injury cant be good. I still worry that when teams decide to bring pressure up the middle they can at will. It looks like we get confused often. Hopefully that improves. Flozell adams again played a good game.

10. Penalties. The officiating crew appeared to be terrible. Brad Sham made a point early in the broadcast to expect alot of flags, walt colemans staff for 3 years straight has called more penalties than any other crew. That held up. There were some seriously bad calls. On brent celek's TD he pushed sensebaugh down by his helmet to create seperation. I think there were some poor calls both ways and it was all even. That push off on witten was pretty absurd. HEaring the eagles media complain about the officiating is just sour grapes today, they never proved in the game that they could sustain a drive even if they got the first down.

11. The eagles fans, the stadium and the myths that surround that organization. First, for all the whining fans do of cowboys fans, mostly by people who never have attended a game here, what did you think last night? that was about as quiet as 69,000 fans can be. I know they are all rough and tumble and blue collar and they only eat bologna on hand....whatever.
The linc is not a scary place. Their fans dont make anymore noise than anywhere else, and they turn on their team faster than anyone. I would like someone to explain to me why it was so quiet there yesterday, you could hear a pin drop when we were on offense. Kristie Scales said they got egged on their way into the stadium as usual, but this time they were getting it even earlier. She said that when columbo walked off the bus and to the ramp, had their not been a glass barrier he would have been hit right in the eye by the fans. Their not blue collar tough guy underdogs. They are pure classless jerks who get promoted like heros.

THe eagles organization is well run and they are well coached. but all this tripping over what they do in the offseason is misplaced. Jason peters was brought in with a first round pick and a huge salary, sound familiar....He has looked pretty average. Stacy andrews cant get on the field. And this applauding of the eagles for bringing in vick has been sickening. They dont know what to do with him. Joe Banner made a comment last year that philly isnt trying to win a playoff game, but win a superbowl when we traded for williams. then in the offseason he made the comment that the eagles have the most talented roster in the league. Then they sign vick. The double standard that the eagles are held to is sickening. The perception of them not making mistakes and being the patriots is wrong. They are a good organization but they make plenty of mistakes.

12. Demarcus ware is everywhere. He makes tackles with one arm while being blocked. there is nothing to say about him. He is simply one of the finest human beings and talents to ever wear a cowboys uniform. I feel blessed to get to watch him play at the stadium.

13. Martellus bennett's are starting to not look that good. He needs to catch the ball, your a tight end, catching balls in traffic while getting hit is your job. Catch the ball.

14. Finally. Enough rambling from me. But the play of the game was not the austin Touchdown to me, as fantastic as it was to watch. It was Victor butler's relentless persuit of Donovan Mcnabb. IN the past mcnabb runs past the first down marker, starts celebrating and they start to roll and win the game. Victor Butler, didnt let that happen. He didnt quit and he kept hustling, he made the play of the game bringing down mcnabb. Chocolate Lab has pointed out repeatedly here that butler is taking the natural course that all good players take, and it is one of the finest points you will see on this website. For all the arguing about butler not being in the game, he is being brought along really well. ANother tribute to the staff. He is an outstanding special teams player and when he gets opportunities he plays well.

15. If only brandon williams was not injured, I suspect he would be playing just like butler.

16.. Finally, no really this time, THe image I had that I could not get out of my head from 44-6 was of Mcnabb Dancing on the sideline and constantly pointing to the back of his jersey at his name. I dont have much respect for mcnabb, he is a really good player but he shows his true colors alot with that stuff. Last night he was acting like the guy we always see when they lose, mopey, goes out to shake hands real slow, gives backhanded comments to the team that beat him disguised as praise. When he wins he loves to tell everyone how good philly is and how good he is and when he loses, well I dont and have never viewed him as the most classy player. Thats just who he is to me.

And I leave you with this, Miles austin destroying Quinten Mickell on the pass to crayton! Great block, right out of the how to kill DB handbook that sam hurd uses.

I was just as impressed with the LB that ran down the WR. Who is that guy? That was a good route and and even greater throw. Right on the money in stride.

Good post.

Though I think Wade caused some of the confusion on D early by not making his mind up as to who would start between Scandrick and Jenkins. Make your mind up and let them practice every day in their starting position.

Good post and all but the three problems that I still see plaguing this team are as abundant last night as they will be next week.

1. 3rd down and long on defense. This is still killing us and keeping opponents drives alive. The pressure in the first half was good, but to me, the second half didnt seem to pressure McNabb as much. Maybe the Eagles adjusted well, but we didnt seem to have the same pressure as the first half.

2. We shoot ourselves in the first foot more often than the other team has good plays against us. Everytime we make a good play, i see the yellow come up, its almost automatic and its painful to the heart. I know we can live with penalities if we win, but one of them is going to cause the turn of an important game.

and finally 3. Stop that stupid play of slinging the ball lateral to the WR and looking for some easy yardage, it worked once out of how many plays? Stop it already.

And when it comes to announcers, its nice that you compare every TE to Witten, but stop it. Not every TE is going to be Witten, and 1 game or season doesnt compare. At this point its a giving hes going down as the number 1 TE of this organizations to the fact that they are comparing him more to old time famous TE's than just the ones from our franchise.

Elite TE's arent easy to come by and not every one is going to get that special 1 at the same time. Stop the comparison.

The last one was just a pet peeve lately from hearing how wonderful Brent Celek is all of a sudden. Carry on.

I agree with everything except abandoning the quick outs, WR screens, etc. I'd like to see less of them, but they can be effective, and potentially very big plays.

The officiating was horrendous last night. Both ways.

...but there is no excuse for how many mistakes this team makes. If they ever start to limit them...look out.

The most aggravating thing about watching this team is watching Wade let up pressure in key situations. Even in games where we've been very effective at putting pressure on the QB...Wade let's up at some crucial points it seems. He's just not that aggressive...or at least not as aggressive as I'd like...guess what I want doesn't matter. :)

Still, I think that's why we tend to give up so much yardage on 3rd and longs.

I was really hoping he was bringing an aggressive defense when he got here, but it seems big plays or pivotal plays and the pressure stops and our opponents know it. I understand we need to get more out of Spencer, Butler with a few plays vs Spencer playing more plays is not equal to the answer, but Im failing to see if Spencer can keep his job next year. He might be the cog thats holding something back because Ware is doing what he can, he just needs that ooomph to get a bit more as all great players need.

Let me comment on #7 and #11.

#7 - I am a believer in Tony Romo, but to use the words "completely" takes it a bit too far. I believe he's a very good quarterback, who could be great. He is a playmaker, he's intelligent and works hard. He has the physical attributes. However, his game still needs improvement and he will continue to improve.

#11 - I've been to 7 Eagles-Cowboys games, three now in Philadelphia. This is the quietest that I've ever heard that crowd. I'm not sure if it was your first time in the stadium, but if it was, know that what you saw last night was atypical. I'm not sure if they just don't believe in their team or if they are suffering from the World Series hangover, but either way, being in the stadium as a Cowboys fan, it was a nice change.

Sorry to say this, because I don't won't turn a good thread bad, but that paragraph up above bothers me and the losers in Philly should really get a handle on it. We're not some 3rd world country killing each other over Futbol matches and that crap has no place here. It's reported as simply as if it's just part of the scenery. ****** Goodel should concern himself with this sort of thing if anything else. He's not a cop, but he should bring some pressure on the locals.

Your post was almost perfect, Theebs. However, when calling the Philthy fans classless jerks, you REALLY need to add a few more adjectives like "obnoxious" and "repulsive". After all, they take pride in being classless, obnoxious repulsive jerks. And that, ironically, defines their classlessness and overall low-life character.
