What's a Slingbox? It sounds like the coolest thing ever .. that's what.

Link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10546353/

The reason I want someone in Dallas to get one is that I want to be able to watch Dallas games using it! Think of it -- you'll be watching the game anyhow, and with the Slingbox, I can connect and watch your TV as well when the Cowboys game isn't on TV in my area!

What's in it for you, you ask? Well, my neverending admiration for one thing. For another, I'll give you $10 :)

Kidding aside, it would be pretty cool if these things became widespread. It would solve the problem of regional network TV football coverage!

Oh yeah i saw that, since I live in MD i would love if someone could just stream the game weekly to the computer.

It would be a great idea. Someone could post a thread
" Dallas Cowboys vs. -------"

and inside could be the link you click to view the game via slingbox!!!!!!!!!

THAT WOULD BE CRAZY!!!!!!!!!
Someone do it:)

I wonder if more than one person can connect at the same time. That might be the problem. If they CAN, then .. hell .. I'd lead up a collection box to BUY someone one of these, so long as they agree to have it hooked up to view the Cowboys game every week!

I just read the article and it sounds kinda tricky. Do we also have to buy the software in order to view it, even though someone else is broadcasting it?
I was confused on some parts, but if anyone could make it happen, anyway, that would be great!!!!!!!
I only get 3-5 games here every season, that definetly would be great to do that slingbox!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm sure you have to install software on your computer. The software, I'm sure, comes packaged with the box. However, there isn't a logical reason why it wouldn't let you install that software on multiple computers. So, whoever got the box could just burn some copies of the disc and send them out. Problem solved! The big problem, like I said, is whether more than one computer can connect to this thing at once.

WHy don't you guys just breakdown and get Direct TV and get the Sunday Ticket? It's a great deal and worth every penny. All of this other stuff you are talking about is probably illegal. I mean the rights to the games are owned by the NFL and I am sure that they will restrict them somehow. Kinda defeats the purpose of the blackouts and the direct TV license.

I have direct tv, but i dont feel like buying the whole sunday ticket. Games on Sunday ticket cost $39.99 to buy. Thats $39.99 just to buy 1 game!!!!!!

I believe Sunday Ticket is what, $240?!?

I might order it next season though!!!!!!!

I got it this year for 199.00. THat's 12.00 per Cowboys game if there wasn't any on Monday or Sunday Night. Add to that I can watch any and every game there is, plus I get a bunch of extras. Hands down a no brainer investment.

What would be the difference between doing this, or having one guy in a neighborhood with Direct TV and everyone else watching the game at his place?

Im gonna get the ticket next season!!!!!

I cant wait, I dont mind listening to them on the radio, via my computer, and using NFL.com gamecenter, but both of those are delayed by at least 10-20 seconds. I love watching the games!!!!!!

You got 1 hell of a deal man!!!! only 200 bucks!!!!!

It wouldn't be illegal. I don't think they have the Sunday Ticket in jail. Or at least they shouldn't.

It probably would be illegal if we paid the person who bought the thing. However, in order for anything to happen, the NFL would have to find out about it. Do you really think they would? C'mon...

Regarding DirecTV and Sunday ticket .. well, if I had that kind of money, then this wouldn't be a problem, would it?

You were willing to pay someone 10.00 per game. That's 160.00.

 Yourself.

Did I say $10 per GAME? Nope. I meant $10 and that's it. Besides that, I was joking. Even if I did mean $10 per game, last time I checked that was cheaper than Sunday Ticket.

 Right back at ya.

My solution is sports bars. Its almost more fun than watching from your couch. you get the Boys fans out there, other teams fans, get a good fake ID and ur set for the day.

Errr .. don't think I need one of those, unless I want to pretend I'm YOUNGER than I am.

Now, if you could get me a fake CREDIT CARD, then I'd be interested.

Sounds quite cool to me.
Hook up with a buddy in another city and swap games or heck even local news.

1 of the old benefits of satellite was watching LA/NY et all news channels.

I no longer have DirecTV because they only cater to new subscribers and murder you in costs to upgrade ancient equipment. After paying 250 for a Tivo box that worked one year then getting told I'd have to buy another to replace it I switched to Dish Network. I am sure they are the same and in a month when I go to a Hi Def TV I might switch back as they have been calling offering me good deals now that I have another service.

I spend about 100 bucks a month on satellite because of the extra boxes and local channels and all that stuff so it is sucks pretty bad that they also wanna beat me up on equipment costs. the Hi Def box with Tivo is gonna cost me 800 bucks and I can have the pleasure of playing another 15 bucks a month for the Hi Def service thus bringing my total bill to over 100 a month after shelling out nearly a grand in hardware costs.

As far as legality where there are few or only silly legal options illegal actions occur with frequency. If the NFL offered each game in a 30 minute delay for 9.95 they would make an absolute killing. The average guy might spend 50 or 60 bucks each season but it would be about 10 times as many guys spending something as opposed to just banking DirecTV dollars.
