There really isn't much of a market for that stuff up here in Canada but it appears as though it makes up a big chunk of the US market with Bud Lite, Coors Lite and Miller Lite being big sellers. Why do people drink this stuff? I could understand maybe a designated driver wanting one drink and choosing a Lite beer but some people drink several.

Is it so you can drink more while consuming less alcohol overall?

It has less carbs so you can drink more without getting fat.

It's also cheaper - that's the big reason.

I like Amstel Lite because of it's taste. In fact, I've never even seen Amstel regular or am sure it even exists.

Coors lite makes absolutely no sense to me. I can drink get water, get the same effect without the awful taste. Miller Lite seems okay, but for some reason all Miller products give me a headache.

Lite beer isn't for people who like beer... it's for people who like to pee a lot.

Eskimo, do we even still have light beer up here?

I usually only drink European stuff anyway.

I haven't ever really looked to be honest but I bet you can get Bud Lite and Coors Lite. I'll check during my next stop at a liquor store.

I drink some Canadian beer: Big Rock, Unibroue, some European: Stella, Guinness, Boddington's, Newcastle. Then there are the microbrews that are locally available which vary across the country - can get some decent stuff. We don't get many American microbrews up here so I can't comment on any of them. The odd day I might get something like a Kingfisher, Tsing Tao or Sapporo when I'm eating out "ethnic".

I do avoid the large brewery American and Canadian swill.

LOL @ the pissant Canadians acting like SNL's Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer when it comes to lite beers. "What iz dis lite beer you Americans speak of? We beer connoisseurs, with our amazing French palates have never heard of such a thing!"

Nice try Nanook of the North, but no dice!

I never claimed there was no lite beer up here, just that it didn't make up much of the market. I hardly recall ever seeing anyone order one or buy any at stores.

Canadians drink plenty of crap beer, just not much crap lite beer. :)

Does that stuff even exist anymore?

Not sure if it ever made its way north of the border.

Lite beer never makes it into my fridge! Tastes to watered down to me, personally! I'll take the extra calories & carbs instead of sacrificing taste!!

+1 Amstel Light is easily the best (read flavor) of light beers.

Beyond that, I will really only think of one other beer that isn't dark by choice. Thats Modelo Especial. That isn't a light beer though.

If I must drink a "normal American beer" that isn't dark, it would be Miller Lite.

you get amstel lite? why would you **** with a decent lager? the only light beer we get over here is coors which in fairness is ok but certainly not what i would choose to drink. they did try and market bud lite but nobody drank it so they stopped selling it. lite beer is one thing i've never understood to be honest. carb wise unless you're drinking a hell of a lot its not as if you're going to get fat from your beer and you're just sacrificing taste and drinking piss water. not a fan of american beers in general to be fair though sam adams is good as is the texan one thats name escapes me at the moment. the germans probably have the best lagers in my opinion.

:lmao:

Amste Litel is actually a good beer. The only with 'Lite' that I really bother to drink. But I'm going to have to try and find the regular now...
