Something I have noticed about the OL

They are already getting paid being on the 53 man roster and NFL teams may have 99 problems but money isn't one.

I've seen that argument and I think it is pretty thin. If one team has 3 injured guys and the other team has none, that really isn't an advantage. They still have 50 guys. They have 61 guys under contract, let em all dress. OL are tough but only 2 back-ups seems risky.

The League is talking safety all the time and more guys that can specialize would help in that department. Guys wouldn't have to fight to get back after concussions so fast. Kickoffs could be kickoffs again.

With the new PAT rules imagine if Bailey pulls a muscle in the first quarter. CJones can practice placekicking but now Romo has to hold again. Just let em bring another K.

They only carried 2 backups on the 46 all of last season. Keeping 8 OL is active is rare.

Overall the 46 man limit does not bother me too much. It's the 53 that drives me crazy. I would love to see that increase to 55 or 56.

I never realized it was that thin. I hate the 46 man game day roster.

Pee Wee teams have bigger rosters.

And they pretend they are serious about the players' health.

Yes that needs to change asap. 46man gameday rosters are a joke.

There is no Leary/Collins competition, zebra. Collins is going to be a backup barring injury. He is Free's heir apparent.

I still feel that Collins will get a chance try OT at some point. I don't know if it will be this year, but I think he has the physical ability to play RT. The issue right now appears to be that he is just not as developed as most people expected regardless of position.

RT is the biggest concern on the team for me. Free had 2 foot/ankle surgeries in the past 18 months and Weems seems to be the only legit backup option as long as Collins is at OG.

Lawrence has been beating Free like a rented mule.

No he isn't Green is Free's replacement, Collins is all about power, he is a guard at this level.

That's good for Lawrence. Free isn't a slouch (he's not great either).

I still think with development, and with Leary's power that's been on display this camp (and against JJ Watt last year, everyone seems to forget), we should be penciling in Collins as the RT of the future. Weems and Green are still projects.

It would be 30 more Ks with jobs.

Not all 32 Ks with jobs are getting paid big bucks as it is now.

We would probably still have the Buehler.

Problem with that line of thinking, is the cap would be the same regardless of roster limits. Owners would not suddenly feel compelled to give players a larger %, so while 30 more Ks would have jobs, salaries all around would be a bit less to compensate.

I'm ready for that first preseason game so we can see these players. I really want to see Weems and Collins in a game. I also want to know see Lawrence against another team's starting RT.

That is really difficult to know. LSU didn't pass the ball enough to really get a good eval of his Pass blocking abilities. His measurable(s) are will within reason for an NFL OT.

I'm certain that there are NFL starting RTs that are less athletic than Collins (Phil Loadholt, Vikings for example).

The whole 53 man roster and the 8 man Practice Squad already count against the cap.

I would rather just dress them all for the game. If a Practice squad guy was used he would have to be added to the roster or clear waivers after the game.

With all 61 guys dressing, the number of injured or banged up players for each side would be of less importance.

I dont think PS squad counts against the cap, but for them to be on an active roster, you would have to pay them a lot more

Agreed.

I've listened to Jason Garrett when directly questioned last week about trying La'el Collins at RT if Darrion Weems falters and it was clear the staff sees him as a guard at the NFL level.

I don't doubt Collins is capable of learning and playing tackle as a pro, but his best fit is inside as a guard.

Doug Free missed the entire off-season and there wasn't a proven swing tackle on the roster.

Despite that, after getting a little work at RT during the rookie camp, Collins focused on LG the rest of the time.

Injuries and/or poor play can change things in an instant, but it certainly looks like the plan is to keep Collins at LG.

Practice squad players do count against the salary cap.

But, yes, their salary would increase if promoted to the active roster.

We saw the same thing with Martin last year and still in the off season about moving him to RT. Yes they both can do it, but why have them be an average to above average RT when they can be/become all pro guards? It all comes down to the Free hate, he is the offense's Hayden, they both bring more to the table than most fans can see.

I was really hoping the team would find a way to extend Jermey Parnell last season and allow Doug Free to walk, but it didn't happen.

I believe Free can still do the job, but will remain concerned about his ability to remain healthy during the season.

The team needs to prepare Darrion Weems this pre-season as if he will need to start at RT at some point this year. And Weems will likely be playing second team LT, so it may not be easy to also get him reps at RT.

Same..

I would've kept Parnell as well and moved on from Free or asked him to be our swing tackle to end his career.

Sucks about Chaz Green needing surgery, he would have pushed Free for that job. Free hasn't looked too good this far.

I just hope the team is right about Chaz Green.

The way things are going, we may not start to find out until next year.

ok, their total cost is what less than 1 million? adding them to the active roster adds 5 million or so, so I doubt that happens.

Is Greens season over?

No, not yet.

Chaz Green is on Active/NFI which is more or less the same as Active/PUP.

He can be activated at any time during training camp/pre-season when ready to pass a physical or go on Inactive/NFI and miss the first six weeks of the regular season before becoming eligible for activation.

Speculation is that Green may not get activated and miss the entire season, but that remains to be seen.
