Something no one mentioned about Dak last week

Running backs run. Quarterbacks pass. When QB's run they get hurt. If you have a running QB system, you better have 3 of them.

You can get hurt from the pocket as well. I do think QB must use some common sense when running by sliding or getting out of bounds but the ability to run is another weapon which is why we see so many QB who will run like Josh Allen

That TD play was a result of good design and blocking.
Agree, I watched the replay on that touchdown several times and indeed It was the blocking that set it up. It wasn’t Dak’s masterful running. Lol although I do agree they should run him once in a while just to keep the defense honest. That particular play was the right call at the right time and everyone executed perfectly. Dak just ran it up the seam. Simple.

I think the NFL should eject anyone diving headfirst or even tackling motion onto a sliding QB. There is no need for it and it happens nearly every time one of them runs. When they have started foot first sliding the play is over. Dont even have to touch them down. That is a penalty and is rarely called. They only throw the flag when someone gets hurt. Yet Defensive guys are headhunting during the slide. I am a fan of physical football play, but lighting up a man who is sliding is weak sauce.

People who haven't been paying attention have probably failed to notice the extent to which the pro game is morphing into the college game. More use of pistol and spread formations leaves more DEs and OLBs (who are getting bigger and faster every 10 minutes) with a free run at your QB. If the QB is not a superior athlete and you run that offense you WILL be needing a new one every few weeks. And if you have a good athlete at QB why would you not use him to stress the defense? Make them play 11 on 11? You only have to do it 5-6 times a game to make them have to account for it every single down.

And the Bills really need to dial it back with Josh Allen.. or they're going to get him hurt..

I can't agree with that. These QB are not little guys, you play around Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts or Josh Allen they will flat out run over defenders. These guys make no effort to avoid the contact. In my view you leave the pocket and become a RB I don't think you should be awarded any extra protection. These last second slide is tough for defenders to pull up

If he’d gotten his right hand stepped on, we’d be singing a different tune.

I like a mobile Dak. I also like an uninjured Dak.

True, big reason is teams do not have the time to sit QB for a year or 2 as they once did, now you need that QB on the field and in doing that I think NFL has brough in a lot of college concept to make the adjustment for the QB much easier. On your last comment, fully agree Allen is going to find himself injured if he continue to challenge defenders as he has. I remember Landry would get upset with Staubach because he would take off and challenge defender but Roger wanted to win at all cost, in the end he missed time with a separated shoulder and had his career cut short because of concussion

I didn’t read much about this last week, but it was good to see Dak involved in the running game again! That first TD and that great QB Sneak.

You have to go back to 2019 to find a game where Dak went well over what he did last week vs the Bears.

When Dak runs 5 or more times in a game in his entire career, the Boys are 20-5. It’s what made him great his rookie year. Not a total runner like Fields but just enough that you have to respect it. Heck.. we see how many problems our D has with running QBs this year. It helps! And I would argue Dak is a much better passer than Fields, Hurt, Jones and the scrambling QBs we’ve played.

I know the team doesn’t want another injury but I don’t think you can take that away from Dak’s game. I’m not saying it has to be every week, but enough so that D Coordinators have to warn their team constantly in practice and Kellen times it right when they least expect it so that it adds just one more threat in our defenders heads.
Please atop with the stupid "when Dak has x number of carries" stat.

When teams are winning, they often get to take 2-3 kneel downs to end the game. Those are counted as QB carries. Your causation is mostly backwards.

QB's get hurt running. QB's get hurt passing. QB's get hurt practicing.

Today's QB's are much more athletic running as a group than they were 2o years ago. It is absolutely debilitating for a defense to have the QB bottled up and the receivers covered only to see him scamper for 4 or 5 yards and then slide. Dak doesn't need to be Lamar Jackson. But Dak is big enough and fast enough that a handful of runs will make him a MUCH more effective passer. Slowing a defense down by half a step is huge in the NFL. I think they played Dak perfectly this last game.

LOL, was going to say did not see the Horsemen on this first page join in on this topic but see one loved your post with a like. Was about to say I can’t believe they have not joined the party on this topic.

The other thing is that we have seen QBs pull the ole fake stepping out of bounds and fake slide and keep running several times over the years. I have no problem with defenders coming in and making sure the QB REALLY goes down as long as it's not done with the crown of the helmet. They're still football players... sorta.

But the running QB has been around a long time

True. I was watching back when Staubach was playing. Obviously I remember Tarkington and Vick and Cunningham. But I certainly think the running QB's are more prevalent today than they were.

i agree but again once they take off in my view they are now a RB and I think should be treated the same, as you said they are still football player. The QB choose to remove his protection when he pulls the ball and takes off, these QB are making defender look foolish when the defender pulls up and the QB fakes the slide or fakes going out of bound. Defenders need to feed their family just as well

Good point. That absolutely is important to take note of, and it does seem a little odd that it hasn't really been discussed. Dak's running definitely added another element to the offense.

I'm still wondering how you get 25 yards on a QB sneak. lol

Hard to say I remember Bears QB Bobby Douglas who pretty much was an extra RB in the back field. When passing game consisted a few throws and the rest of the time grinding it out. No doubt todays QB are much more athletic

That may be the only thing that keeps the Eagles from the Super Bowl.

Unless Minshew is Foles as Hurts is to Wentz.

That's all so painful to type after sending so many mocking texts to my Eagles fan friends moments after they drafted Hurts. Those didn't age well.

IMHO, Dak should have at least 5 runs per game if nothing more than to keep pressure of the defenses.

With that ankle.....let's....
