He was not running because he was coming back from a broken ankle. Before this season started both Dak and McCarthy talked about Dak get back to running the ball more. Prior to the ankle Dak ran the ball.
Yes, he wasn't running last yr coming back from injury and we really didn't see it this yr until last week.

I have been saying it for years. If he played like he did in 2016 I would have any issue with his contract. He is a problem for defense when he uses his legs. Run him into the ground.

Sorry there is nothing to show tongue in cheek. Around here, with things that are said, being obvious is kind of important. lol

You might have first asked if I was serious when I made the comment, making it obvious sort of defeats the purpose of making a tongue in cheek comment.
Per Wiki "The idiom tongue-in-cheek refers to a humorous or sarcastic statement expressed in a serious manner."

But I'll see how I can better make that kind of post so readers can get an idea it's not meant to be serious, thanks for bringing it to my attention...

I didn’t read much about this last week, but it was good to see Dak involved in the running game again! That first TD and that great QB Sneak.

You have to go back to 2019 to find a game where Dak went well over what he did last week vs the Bears.

When Dak runs 5 or more times in a game in his entire career, the Boys are 20-5. It’s what made him great his rookie year. Not a total runner like Fields but just enough that you have to respect it. Heck.. we see how many problems our D has with running QBs this year. It helps! And I would argue Dak is a much better passer than Fields, Hurt, Jones and the scrambling QBs we’ve played.

I know the team doesn’t want another injury but I don’t think you can take that away from Dak’s game. I’m not saying it has to be every week, but enough so that D Coordinators have to warn their team constantly in practice and Kellen times it right when they least expect it so that it adds just one more threat in our defenders heads.
Yeah this board seems to gloss over the positives about Dak and Kellen. I see posters still bringing up game one against Tampa.

Running backs run. Quarterbacks pass. When QB's run they get hurt. If you have a running QB system, you better have 3 of them.
Except not a word of that is true. Running QBs don’t get hurt more than pocket QBs. It’s been studied to death.

i agree but again once they take off in my view they are now a RB and I think should be treated the same, as you said they are still football player. The QB choose to remove his protection when he pulls the ball and takes off, these QB are making defender look foolish when the defender pulls up and the QB fakes the slide or fakes going out of bound. Defenders need to feed their family just as well
They are treated the same as an RB once they take off running. RBs can slide too, with the same rules, they just rarely do.

But yeah, the fake slide needs to be addressed somehow.

His one QB sneak was kinda flukes.

No idea how he gained like 20 yards on that 3rd and 1 lol

But it was good to see him run it in for that touchdown on the opening drive.
I had to laugh when I saw him running for his life on that play, simply because he looked kinda slow and clumsy. When you compare his running style to that of Fields, he looked like an offensive line man who unexpectedly catched a ball. Not making fun of Dak here, I loved it. Just looked kinda awkward. :)

Man… hard to believe we still have people who resist the mobile quarterback.

Maybe 20 years ago I would understand, but as many have pointed out, if you’re still against a QB who can throw AND run, you’re just not looking at the realities of today’s league and injury stats.

Being the home of Captain Comeback, I would think any Cowboys fan could appreciate mobility in a QB.

Certainly increased risk, but probably necessary going forward against playoff- level defenses.

You may recall that his big injury this year happened because his hand hit a helmet when he was throwing from the pocket.

Running QBs don't get injured more often or worse than pocket QBs.

They do if they're stupid enough not to slide. Not learning to slide is what shortened Cam Newton, RGIII and a few others' career. And will shorten Josh Allen and Dak's if they don't learn as well. No matter how big and tough you are.. the NFL is fully of bigger and tougher dudes than you.. Get the first down and get on the ground needs to be the motto for running QBs. Actually all QBs.

I've always thought the more athletic the QB is the better.. and Roger was the primary reason why. When he took that '75 team to the Super Bowl with a completely remade (and really not very good) offensive line I was sold. Give me a guy who can move over the "classic drop back passer" any day.

The funniest thing about people who want to argue the whole "mobile QBs don't win Super Bowls" is when they try to reclassify a guy as not mobile immediately after he wins one.. Joe Theisman came into the league as a punt returner.. Joe Montana was a fine athlete.. Elway was one of the most athletic QBs ever.. Steve Young ran 4.3 as a Ute.. Troy Aikman ran the Wishbone for two years in college.. Yes knee and back surgeries eventually took away his athleticism but young Troy could move with the best of them. All those guys get counted in the "pocket passer" category when people are making the argument about what kind of QB wins Super Bowls. Nonsense. Russell Wilson looks pretty athletic to me.. at his size he has to be.. Same for Drew Brees to a lesser extent.. Aint no 5'11" - 6' QB standing tall in the pocket and throwing strikes.. Stafford himself was a three sport stud in high school.

I can already hear the "but Brady" groans from the peanut gallery. The guy who had a top 5 defense for something like 15 of his 21 years in the league "carried teams to the Super Bowl." If that's the case why don't we credit Wilson for carrying the Seahawks? Or Brad Johnson for carrying the Bucs.. Or how about the mighty Dilfer carrying the Ravens? Nope.. when the narrative fits it's the QB doing the carrying.. and when we need it to fit another narrative it's the defense doing the carrying..

Yeah.. sure..

He needs to run an ample amount, or when he hands off to the RB and fakes the keeper, nobody is even going to hesitate. Splitting the defense by having the QB and RB go in different directions is very helpful.

It's a great option in the redzone.

Do you have that stat? It would be interesting, I would assume that the majority of QB rushing yards are accomplished by more compact dedicated rushing QBs, I wonder if Dak fits into that category at the present? He certainly is fast and seems to be more confident running than he seemed last year post calf injury. His biggest injury certainly happened running against the Giants - he’s got spindly legs! He has to run for us to win, but is not without some increase in risk.

Didn’t include in original post, but was going to say - not running as much last year seemed as much on Dak as Kellen. He didn’t look like he trusted that ankle yet. I always considered Dak a big QB, tougher and more sturdy. Like the posts above, just needs to be more careful with his slides. You can give it all and make business decisions.
