Dallas needed to add juice to the offense, so they drafted running back Jayden Blue, who can take any touch to the house. He might be the fastest player on the roster, and he uses it to get outside on runs and beat angles taken by defenders to create big plays in the running game. He was the top back in the draft class in percentage of total yards gained after contact. He was fourth in the class in yards after contact per carry and the top rusher in yards after being hit behind the line of scrimmage. He is also a mismatch in the passing game if he is up against linebackers or a safety who doesn't match his athleticism.

He led the class in the percentage of snaps lined up in the slot. New offensive coordinator, Klayton Adams, will enjoy creating plays to try to get Blue into the open field because if he does, Blue could take it to the house. This is another move, along with Booker, that helps both the rushing and passing attack. Grade: A

The hardest pick to grade is Ajani Cornelius because he has plenty of college starting-level experience on a top-level team, but isn't a pick for this season. The Cowboys' offensive line is loaded with guys, and even if he were hidden on the roster, he would be inactive all season. He has the frame and athleticism to be an excellent lineman, and he moves well when pulling and leading a ball carrier, but he doesn't have the footwork or technique to be impactful in the NFL. Another ball of clay for the coaching staff to mold, this one on the offensive side.

James is at his best blitzing the quarterback or moving laterally to make plays. He doesn't play with anticipation and instincts, but Matt Eberflus has always been a linebacker whisperer, and the coach gets his 20-year-old ball of clay to develop over the next few seasons.

I’ve been around long enough to know that to reach the upper echelon’s of the NFL playoffs and to compete for a Super Bowl you’ll need to have very good offensive and defensive lines. You HAVE to have a legitimate running game so that late in the games with the lead you can pound away the time on the clock. Likewise you need a defensive line that can eliminate opposing teams running games. So when the new head coach voiced these same feelings I was immediately onboard with the hire.

And then the draft and they picked 3 d-lineman, 2 o-lineman and 2 running backs furthering Scotty’s vision. We all should be excited about this change in philosophy for the Cowboys. They’re trying to become a tough, physical team on both sides of the ball. The season doesn’t start until September so there’s plenty of time to address the hole at WR and maybe a CB. So win or lose, there’s something to be excited about after last year’s mess.

Mingo can block too. If he can just become a good wr we may be ok. He did have 43 catches as a rook.

You are limited drafting as a contingency to replace key players. The battle is won at the line of scrimmage. Aside from that, it looks like we drafted a very good pass rusher.

• Round 2: Pick 44: OLB/DE Donovan Ezeiruaku, Boston College

Good enough that we are no longer reliant on #11 to have any pass rush.

That was true once we signed Fowler but Ezeiruaku is a long term solution and he's as plug and play as a rusher gets in the draft. He will impact as a rookie.

Rockport, my friend. I love your optimism, but there is nothing to be excited about. we have spent 3 1st round picks on the OL. tell me, show me a team in the past 15 years that's been in the CCGs with 3 OL men in the first round. how about just 2?

do I value OL? yes. absolutely. do I think we need to spend the 12th pick of the draft on the least important position on the OL (RG). heck no. that's definition of incompetence.

we have no answer at RB, just 7 players and a hope one of them steps up and none of them make you go wow.
