Murs - A Friends Blues

Now when you're young, death can make you aware of your mortality
At times we feel invincible, lose sight of reality
Until it takes a loved one, residing in our circle
It'll hurt you cause you miss 'em
Once were close, down you're distant
And it hurts just to know that they could go at any instant
Gotta love 'em by the minute, now you realize this
It's sad it takes a loss to appreciate the gifts
So celebrate the occasion, just breathing is amazin'
To see the sun rise and set, at a days end
A chance to fix mistakes that we regret makin'
Find joy in the simple things, no time for complainin'
The sun will shine, it can't always be rainin'
I know it hurts deep, but you must maintain it
I seen it in my homeboys Terry and Tom
They've lost so many, yet they keep so strong
To lose a parent or a sibling and have the will to keep living
Takes so much strength, so I admire y'all
And one day hope to find out, what is (bias?) y'all
And I'm still mad, askin' why it happens at all
Some say that God takes them, and they lean on mythology
But I choose to believe that its divine lottery
I can't believe God's lookin' down, waitin' to slaughter me
I can't live in fear, and I can't live here
Forever, so I treasure every moment

[Chorus]
And its friendship, that I value the most
That kinship, the ones we hold close
And dear, and fear the most of losin'
But keep chewin'
The memories brewin', cause life keeps movin'

And its friendship, that I value the most
That kinship, the ones we hold close
And dear, and fear the most of losin'
But keep chewin'
The memories brewin', cause life keeps movin'

[Verse 2]
We came together like family, like it was our first death
Unexpected, so quick, so sudden, the worst yet
Didn't get to know the girl, 'til two years after her first breath
Still we loved her like a sister, as a depth of first steps
Got the call out of town, so alone I first wept
Deep pain, from the same place, is where this verse crept
Never slept in that bed again
The memory was too tragic, looked up and screamed goodbye
Knew you wouldn't be present at the wake, in your casket
Now your askin' things change since you left, not really
We still playin' games, BSin', actin' silly
See she don't talk to her and, she don't like me and
Will we work things out, thats not likely
I mean where will we start
Do we mend friendships, or let things fall apart
Will we still be in touch, honestly I don't know
But you're in my heart forever

[Chorus]
Its friendship, that I value the most
That kinship, the ones we hold close
And dear, and fear the most of losin'
But keep chewin'
The memories brewin', cause life keeps movin'

And its friendship, that I value the most
That kinship, the ones we hold close
And dear, and fear the most of losin'
But keep chewin'
The memories brewin', cause life keeps movin'

And its friendship, that I value the most
That kinship, the ones we hold close
And dear, and fear the most of losin'
But keep chewin'
Pour out a little brew and blow a blunt while your cruisin'
For friends that your choosin', gotta love 'em 'fore you lose 'em
Stand strong when you do it, tough times, live through 'em
Don't give into 'em, stay goal pursuin' and
Doin' what your doin' 'cause life keeps movin' on

There's a look on her face
She's starting to master
And she carefully closes the door
She's been coming home late
With pre-packaged answers
To questions she tries to avoid

Now she's talking too fast
And I just have to ask
Baby what's all the cloak and dagger for

Okay here's the truth
I ran out of gas
And I didn't call cause I thought you'd be mad
So I started to walk
Took an hour and a half
To get off that highway and fill up that can
I was hoping that you'd understand

She's getting good with the lies
So good that you'd wonder
If the rabbit in the hat tricks for real
She turns water into wine
And I'd almost believe her
If her eyes just for once could keep still

Now my patience wears thin
Cause she's late once again
Honey tell me what delayed you this time

Okay here's the truth
It's gonna sound kind of strange
But I took a new way home from work for a change
It started out fine
Til I got to Route 9
Went an hour the wrong way before I realized
I'm sorry I ruined all our plans
I was hoping that you'd understand

And there watching her secretly talking
It is just about all I can bear
Now I know why she's been wearing
More Make-up and caring
So much about changing her hair

The telephone vibrates on the table again
Another damn private call coming through
And now she's visibly shaking
And I just feel like taking that phone
Throwing it clear across the room

She answers hello
A mans voice I don't know
Says it's time that you tell him the truth
Now I can't take this no more
Honey I'm out the door
No, I won't relax
I've got my suitcase all packed
What she said next stopped me dead in my tracks

Okay here's the truth
It's not what you think
The man that you heard is head of oncology
I'm sorry I lied
To you all of those times
I didn't know how to tell you
I might not survive
Okay there's the truth
I've got six months to live
Only wanted what's best for you and the kids
I promise I'll fight
With all of my might
But if I lose this battle
I lived a good life
So baby just please hold my hand
And tell me that you understand

Crystal Shawanda "You can let go now daddy"

[youtube]H78uQhsZKKA[/youtube]

Wind blowin' on my face
Sidewalk flyin' beneath my bike
A five year-old's first taste
Of what freedom's really like
He was runnin' right beside me
His hand holdin' on the seat
I took a deep breath and hollered
As I headed for the street

You can let go now, Daddy
You can let go
Oh, I think I'm ready
To do this on my own
(It's still) (It still feels) a little bit scary
But I want you to know
I'll be okay now, Daddy
You can let go

I was standin' at the altar
Between the two loves of my life
To one I've been a daughter
To one I soon would be a wife
When the preacher asked,
'Who gives this woman?'
Daddy's eyes filled up with tears
He kept holdin' tightly to my arm
'Til I whispered in his ear

You can let go now, Daddy
You can let go
Oh, I think I'm ready
To do this on my own
(It's still) (It still feels) a little bit scary
But I want you to know
I'll be okay now, Daddy
You can let go

It was killin' me to see
The strongest man I ever knew
Wastin' away to nothin'
In that hospital room
'You know he's only hangin' on for you'
That's what the night nurse said
My voice and heart were breakin'
As I crawled up in his bed, and said

You can let go now, Daddy
You can let go
Your little girl is ready
To do this on my own
It's gonna be a little bit scary
But I want you to know
I'll be okay now, Daddy
You can let go
You can let go

I don't think this band ever gets the credit it deserves. Mostly people remember the awesome album covers.

I read one time that this song is about the assassinations of Ghandhi, MLK, JFK, Anwar Sadat, and even Jesus Christ and how people of their own professed faiths killed them. The lyrics are full of symbolism about their messages.

Molly Hacthet

"Fall of the Peacemakers"

A king without a sword
A land without a king
A truth without a voice
One song left to sing
One song to sing

A wise man told me there's something you should know
The way you judge a man is to look into his soul
And you'll soon see everything.

A voice from the past cried "Give peace a chance"
He paid our price now he's free at last
Imagine, we called him a dreamer!
How many times must good men die?
How many tears will the children cry?
'Til they suffer no more sadness
Stop the madness,
Oh, stop the madness.

If ashes are ashes and dust is dust
At our journey's end then return we must
To the sands of the shore
White doves in flight
Peace to all
But tell me why the peacemakers fall
Must we bury anymore?

The hush of the crowd as the horse rode by
A black lace veil hid the tears from her eyes
And we all wept in silence
How many times must good men die?
How many times will the children cry?
'Til they suffer no more sadness
Oh, stop the madness
Oh, stop all the madness.

Taking Back Sunday - "Eleven"

The song just has important meaning to me. I lived this song, literally.

Lyrics:
I can remember, parking lot nights
What did they mean to you?
Wrapping my arms around your body
Protecting and holding you
And holding you

Looking inside of my heart
It was such a big surprise
We've gone and done it again
Does he love you like i can?
Like i can

Maybe it wasn't good enough, but I gave you all i could
Will he stay up late if you cant sleep
Cause baby i would (i would)
And baby i could (i could)

And your the grim reaper standing down, and letting me feel this way
With your sweet whispers that never told me you need me this way (this way)
Staying this way (this way)

If you told me you were happy
If you told me that you miss me
Is it something that i cant see
It's something i cant be
Something i cant be

(If you told me)
(IF YOU TOLD ME)

Maybe it wasn't good enough, but I gave you all i could
Would he stay up late if you cant sleep
Cause baby i would (i would)
(Good Enough, Good Enough ...)

Kanye West - "Hey Mama"

I love this song. Didn't live this one exactly, but certain lyrics take me back to times, I will never forget.

[Chorus]
(Hey Mama), I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I'm so proud of you
Let me tell you what I'm about to do, (Hey Mama)
I know I act a fool but, I promise you I'm goin back to school
I appreciate what you allowed for me
I just want you to be proud of me (Hey Mama)

[Verse 1]
I wanna tell the whole world about a friend of mine
This little light of mine and I'm finna let it shine
I'm finna take yall back to them better times
I'm finna talk about my mama if yall don't mind
I was three years old, when you and I moved to the Chi
Late December, harsh winter gave me a cold
You fixed me up something that was good for my soul
Famous homemade chicken soup, can I have another bowl?
You work late nights just to keep on the lights
Mommy got me training wheels so I could keep on my bike
And you would give anything in this world
Michael Jackson leather and a glove, but didn't give me a curl
And you never put no man over me
And I love you for that mommy cant you see?
Seven years old, caught you with tears in your eyes
Cuz a ***** cheatin, telling you lies, then I started to cry
As we knelt on the kitchen floor
I said mommy Imma love you till you don't hurt no more
And when I'm older, you aint gotta work no more
And Imma get you that mansion that we couldn't afford
See you're, unbreakable, unmistakable
Highly capable, lady that's makin loot
A livin legend too, just look at what heaven do
Send us an angel, and I thank you (Hey Mama)

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
Forrest Gump mama said, life is like a box of chocolates
My mama told me go to school, get your doctorate
Somethin to fall back on, you could profit with
But still supported me when I did the opposite
Now I feel like it's things I gotta get
Things I gotta do, just to prove to you
You was getting through, can the choir please
Give me a verse of "You, Are So Beautiful To Me"
Can't you see, you're like a book of poetry
Maya Angelou, Nicky Giovanni, turn one page and there's my mommy
Come on mommy just dance wit me, let the whole world see your dancing feet
Now when I say Hey, yall say Mama, now everybody answer me (Hey Mama)

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
I guess it also depends tho, if my ends low
Second they get up you gon get that Benzo
Tint the windows, ride around the city and let ya friends know (Hey Mama)

[Verse 3]
Tell your job you gotta fake em out
Since you brought me in this world, let me take you out
To a restaurant, upper echelon
Imma get you a jag, whatever else you want
Just tell me what kind of S-Type Donda West like?
Tell me the perfect color so I make it just right
It don't gotta be Mother's Day, or your birthday
For me to just call and say (Hey Mama)

I won't post it because it is religious in context. Carrie Underwood's version of it is amazing. I highly recommend it for anyone who is curious.

Wow, that is nice! Thks for posting it.

It's been in my top 5 hymns since the first time I heard George Beverly Shea sing it at the 71 Billy Graham Crusade.

Nobody sings it like him. And he's still going strong at 101 years old.

My wife love her songs Jesus Take the Wheel and Temporary Home, both are also religious in nature.

Yea, I watched a special on TV last year celebrating his 100th b-day. He was really enjoying himself it seemed.

Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour)

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

alan jackson 'where were you'
(this one gets me every time)
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below

Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young

eric clapton 'tears in heaven'

[youtube]7g2IlaDLVLo[/youtube]
Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?

I'll find my way
Through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven.

Time can bring you down,
Time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart,
Have you begging please, begging please.

Beyond the door,
There's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in heaven.

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven.

Oh baby, baby
Oh baby, baby
Oh baby, baby
How was I supposed to know
That something wasn't right here
Oh baby baby
I shouldn't have let you go
And now you're out of sight, yeah
Show me, how you want it to be
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now what we've got

[CHORUS:]
My loneliness is killing me
I must confess, I still believe
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time

Oh baby, baby
The reason I breathe is you
Boy you got me blinded
Oh baby, baby
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
That's not the way I planned it
Show me, how you want it to be
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now what we've got

[Repeat CHORUS]

Oh baby, baby
Oh baby, baby
Ah, yeah, yeah
Oh baby, baby
How was I supposed to know
Oh pretty baby
I shouldn't have let you go
I must confess, that my loneliness
Is killing me now
Don't you know I still believe
That you will be here
And give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time

[Repeat CHORUS]

I must confess that my loneliness
Is killing me now
Don't you know I still believe
That you will be here
And give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time
