Song Lyrics That Really Move You

I'll gladly force my hands through hearts on nights like this when I've talked my way out of time and spent my life sleeping on idle threats.
Catch as catch can't.
For a target covers more than a few lost hours and some more small debts. Forward thinking through bad dreams of worse names
and months of entertaining childish games.
Act your age or act alone.
Too many scars to put up with another glass house and toss errant stones. Leaving one staisfies another.
A key in lock mentality kills another history.

Noone said anything about songs that move you positively. This is a song by one of my favorite bands, Hot Cross. Every time I hear it, and the lyrics, I get pumped up.

Stephen Curtis Chapman - Cinderella

This song kills me. If you have a daughter (and even if not), once you know the story it is hard to not tear up when listening to this song...

She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders

It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad, I need you

There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone...

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says, "Dad, the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

She will be gone

Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

from Wikipedia... Chapman's five-year-old daughter, Maria Sue Chapman, was killed in an accident on May 21, 2008.The accident happened ten days after Maria's birthday. Maria was accidentally hit by her older brother Will while he was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser pulling into the driveway of their home in Franklin, Tennessee, according to Tennessee Department of Safety spokesman Mike Browning. Maria was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Maria died from her injuries and blood loss.
The entire family was preparing to celebrate their eldest son Caleb's graduation from high school and their daughter Emily's engagement just hours before the accident. A spokesman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol termed it "a terrible accident," and no charges were filed.
Maria, the youngest in the family, was one of three daughters whom Steven and Mary Beth had adopted from China.During the memorial service for Maria, in which Pastor Scotty Smith preached, the family expressed their faith in God and their love for each other.
After the accident, the Chapman family began to speak publicly about their loss and the role that faith played in it all. They appeared on Good Morning America, Larry King Live, in People magazine, and on The 700 Club.[14][15] Maria was buried in her Flower Girl Dress as she along with Stevie Joy was going to be a Flower girl in Emily's wedding in October. Chapman's subsequent album, Beauty Will Rise focuses on this event and its aftermath. Steven Curtis Chapman almost quit his singing career due to Maria's death, but then he realized that Maria would have wanted him to continue singing.

Wimbo, that reminds me of this one. I have already told my daughters that if they play this when they get married I will cry.

Stealing Cinderella

I came to see her daddy for sit down man to man
It wasn't any secret i'd be asking for her hand
I guess that's why he left me waiting in the living room by myself
with at least a dozen pictures of her sitting on a shelf

- Chorus -

She was playing Cinderella
She was riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes i'm Prince Charming
But to him i'm just some fella
riding in and stealing Cinderella

I leaned in towards those pictures to get a better look at one
When I heard a voice behind me say "Now, ain't she something, son?"
I said "Yes, she quite a woman"
and he just stared at me
Then I realized that in his eyes she would always be

Playing Cinderella
Riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes i'm Prince Charming
But to him i'm just some fella
riding in and stealing Cinderella

He slapped me on the shoulder
Then he called her in the room
When she threw her arms around him
That's when I could see it too

Playing Cinderella
Riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
If he gives me a hard time
I can't blame the fella
I'm the one who's stealing Cinderella

Hos,
This is a great song especially if you have daughters. If it is played at one of my duaghters wedding I will probably shed a tear or two.

I don't know that Cinderella is about Maria though it certainly tugs at Father-Daughter heartstrings.

But he did an earlier song, "What Now?", with lyrics that refer to a "little orphan girl... on the other side of the world" that I assume refers to one or more of his adopted daughters.

The question of the song asks "what will you do now that you've found me?" It's about putting faith into action. Chapman did just that by adopting the girl(s) only to lose Maria in that tragic accident.

Wow, just wow.

I have two sons born first, followed by two daughters. I love my sons to death. But the bond with my daughters and the emotions around that is unlike anything I have experienced with my boys. I won't say better. It's just different.

Cinderella by SCC stirs tears every time if I let it. Haven't even heard the other one but just reading the lyrics does it as well.

At some point I fully expect I will cry like a baby when my daughters get married. I just hope its not in the middle of the ceremony.:

'On Raglan Road'

On Raglan Road on an autumn day I saw her first and knew
That her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue;
I saw the danger, yet I passed along the enchanted way,
And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day.

On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge
Of the deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion's pledge,
The Queen of Hearts still making tarts and I not making hay -
Oh I loved too much and by such by such is happiness thrown away.

I gave her gifts of the mind I gave her the secret sign that's known
To the artists who have known the true gods of sound and stone
And word and tint without stint for I gave her poems to say.
With her own name there and her own dark hair like clouds over fields of May

On a quiet street where old ghosts meet I see her walking now
Away from me so hurriedly my reason must allow
That I had loved not as I should a creature made of clay -
When the angel woos the clay he'd lose his wings at the dawn of day.

I already liked the song, but after 'In Bruges' and where it was played in that movie, I like it that much more.

Yeah, the song was written and published before Maria was killed. He still performs it live - I can't even imagine how he gets through it.

luke kelly had one of my favourite voices of any genre. foggy dew and a few rebel tunes that i probably shouldn't post here are outstanding. one song i love though that saw an upturn in popularity after being in a film (sherlock holmes)

Today youre young Too soon, youre old But while a voice within me cries Im sure someone may answer my call And this bitter earth Ooooo may not Oh be so bitter after all

A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher,
Ridin' on a midnight bus bound for Mexico.
One's headed for vacation, one for higher education,
An' two of them were searchin' for lost souls.
That driver never ever saw the stop sign.
An' eighteen wheelers can't stop on a dime.

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway,
Why there's not four of them, Heaven only knows.
I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you,
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres,
The faith an' love for growin' things in his young son's heart.
An' that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children:
Did her best to give 'em all a better start.
An' that preacher whispered: "Can't you see the Promised Land?"
As he laid his blood-stained bible in that hooker's hand.

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway,
Why there's not four of them, Heaven only knows.
I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you,
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

That's the story that our preacher told last Sunday.
As he held that blood-stained bible up,
For all of us to see.
He said: "Bless the farmer, and the teacher, an' the preacher;
"Who gave this Bible to my mamma,
"Who read it to me."

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway,
Why there's not four of them, now I guess we know.
It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you,
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
Leonard Cohen is one of the finest lyricists living. Chelsea Hotel is one of his many greats. Leonard remains ashamed that he revealed the famous and now long dead woman he was singing about in an interview years ago. Felt it was not what gentleman would do.

The line "you told me again you prefer handsome men, but for me you would make an exception" is fantastically quotable but the "and then you got away, didn't you babe ... you just turned your back on the crown" piece gets me every time

Chelsea Hotel - Leonard Cohen

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
you were talking so brave and so sweet,
giving me head on the unmade bed,
while the limousines wait in the street.
Those were the reasons and that was New York,
we were running for the money and the flesh.
And that was called love for the workers in song
probably still is for those of them left.

Ah but you got away, didn't you babe,
you just turned your back on the crowd,
you got away, I never once heard you say,
I need you, I don't need you,
I need you, I don't need you
and all of that jiving around.

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
you were famous, your heart was a legend.
You told me again you preferred handsome men
but for me you would make an exception.
And clenching your fist for the ones like us
who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,
you fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind,
we are ugly but we have the music."

And then you got away, didn't you babe...
you just turned your back on the crowd,
you got away, I never once heard you say,
I need you, I don't need you,
I need you, I don't need you
and all of that jiving around.

I don't mean to suggest that I loved you the best,
I can't keep track of each fallen robin.
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
that's all, I don't even think of you that often.

Dixie to Arms! (1861)
Lyrics by: Albert Pike

Southrons, hear ye Country call ye!
Up! Lest worse than death befall you!
To arms! To arms! To arms! In Dixie!
Lo! All the beacon fires are lighted,
Let all hearts be now united!
To arms! To arms! To arms! In Dixie!

CHORUS:
Advance the flag of Dixie!
Hurrah! Hurrah!
For Dixie's land we take our stand,
To live or die for Dixie!
To arms! To arms!
And conquer peace for Dixie!
To arms! To arms!
And conquer peace for Dixie!

Oh, hear the Northern thunders mutter!
Northern flags and South winds fluter,
To arms! To arms! To arms! In Dixie!
Send them back your fierce defiance!
Stamp upon the cursed alliance!
To arms! To arms! To arms! In Dixie!

CHORUS
Advance the flag of Dixie!
Hurrah! Hurrah!
For Dixie's land we take our stand,
To live or die for Dixie!
To arms! To arms!
And conquer peace for Dixie!
To arms! To arms!
And conquer peace for Dixie!

Fear no danger! Shun no labor!
Lift up rifle, pike, and saber!
To arms! To arms! To arms! In Dixie!
Shoulder press and post to shoulder,
Let the odds make each heart bolder!
To arms!

:)

Dive - Steven Curtis Chapman

The long awaited rains
Have fallen hard upon the thirsty ground
And carved their way to where
The wild and rushing river can be found
And like the rains
I have been carried here to where the river flows yeah
My heart is racing and my knees are weak
As I walk to the edge
I know there is no turning back
Once my feet have left the ledge
And in the rush I hear a voice
That's telling me it's time to take the leap of faith
So here I go

I'm diving in I'm going deep in over my head I want to be
Caught in the rush lost in the flow in over my head I want to go
The river's deep the river's wide the river's water is alive
So sink or swim I'm diving in

There is a supernatural power
In this mighty river's flow
It can bring the dead to life
And it can fill an empty soul
And give a heart the only thing
Worth living and worth dying for yeah
But we will never know the awesome power
Of the grace of god
Until we let ourselves get swept away
Into this holy flood
So if you'll take my hand
We'll close our eyes and count to three
And take the leap of faith
Come on let's go
