He is the best football player on the board. Period. Freak athlete with high football IQ. If he drops past the Giants at five. Jerry needs to make the call. Trade with Cleveland. 12 and 20 and a fifth For 6 and 39. Do it Jerry. If we stay at 12, we will be wiped out of all the round 1 graded defensive players.

This is how you get in trouble. Give me the better player , while also at a massive need. Downs is a better prospect , imo.
I can turn around and say the exact same thing to you though. I happen to think Styles has a higher ceiling. Both S and MLB are around the same positional value but since Dallas slept on linebackers in free agency, Mike is now my #1 priority.

Like I said, I am good with Downs too.

Did you watch him in the Cotton Bowl?

He looked a day late and a dollar short.. vs Miami...

This is starting from a false premise though, as Downs would play the nickel for us, which makes him a corner and therefore of much higher positional value than a MLB.

I don’t think most people have watched Styles in general. Just see the size and athleticism and makes assumptions. He’s pretty average as a box LB and a long way to go before he’s a Bobby Wagner/Fred Warner type of impact LB.

Obviously Styles is a very good prospect and can certainly get better, but I really don’t see the “can’t miss” type prospect he’s being made out to be as a top 10 pick. A lot of projection involved

If you have styles rated higher that’s fine. I don’t have a problem w that. But you said we need a Mike more , so I commented on that

The Giants may take Styles at 5.

I think he's the best football player in this draft class, and I have been banging that drum since before the Combine.

I might give up my 3rd to get him, because I think he's that special, but I am not sure if that would get us high enough.

Would you rather have 1. Styles and Thieneman or 2. Downs and Rodriguez?

Both sound really good, honestly! A+ draft either way.

Here's my thing... all draft prospects in the top 10 have some holes in their game. So if I'm taking a top 10 player with holes in his game might as well be at the position of need which is middle linebacker. And no I will not move up to number three but have no problem moving to number 6 and taking Styles

I'm not moving up for anyone. This team is so void of talent on the defensive side of the ball that I'd simply stick to my board. For me it's a draft where the Cowboys can't go wrong. Styles is not a can't miss prospect but is light years better than anything on the current roster and a immediate upgrade. Safety isn't a premium position but Downs improves the entire secondary the day he's drafted. The same could be said about both Delane and McCoy as both would compete for CB #2 right out of the box. Bailey or Bain...yes please, they take Sam Williams job day one. I could even make a case for an offensive tackle but I don't want to.

Yes it's a weak draft at the top without many blue chippers, but this team is so void that they don't have to be blue. Dallas just needs chips, and lots of them. Stay put, let the draft come to you, and improve your roster with the best available talent related to your board. Taking the best player available has always been a winning formula, and how you build a roster for longevity.

Spot on...overrated in a bad class.
