Bears | Team signs B. Lloyd
Fri, 7 Mar 2008 13:27:49 -0800

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears signed unrestricted free-agent WR Brandon Lloyd (Commanders) Friday, March 7, to a one-year deal worth the league minimum.

It just made me chuckle a bit . . . . :D

Wait, you mean they got Lloyd without having to give up draft picks and he didn't get a huge salary? That can't be right.

:lmao2:

You know the Bears receiving core blows when you have to sign Brandon Lloyd.

Kind of like the odd-couple of the NFL.

Yhea, things are looking dire in the Windy City.

No QB, no WR, and no RB.

And I think their OL is a mess as well.

Can you believe these guys were in the Super Bowl just a couple years ago?!

Good grief.

So this is where Commanders go after they shown to be below averege players. Jason Campbell will be the starting QB for Chicago in 2009, heard it here first

Lloyd will be a fine addition to that offense. He can't catch, but it won't matter because nobody can throw either.

Just a shame they didn't give up some draft picks and sign him to a monster contract like the stinks did.

Why did they get rid of Griese? Is he still drinking or is he just an jerk? Considering the QB situation there I truly don't understand why Griese isn't at least their backup. Maybe he's just unhappy. I wouldn't want the guy as a starter but I think he can backup. What the heck IS going on in Chicago?

Then there's this nugget,

Wideout Lloyd signs with Bears, jumps to QB conclusion

March 7, 2008
CBSSports.com wire reports
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears and inadvertently stirred a quarterback controversy Friday.

"Rex Grossman is the starter," Lloyd said during a conference call.

Well, not exactly.

The Bears have said that Grossman and Kyle Orton will compete for the starting job next season, and Lloyd apparently jumped to a premature conclusion. When asked who told him Grossman would start, the receiver backpedalled.

"That's what I'm assuming," said Lloyd, who was released after two disappointing seasons in Washington. "That's what ..."

His voice trailed off. Then, he said, "Orton and Grossman signed one-year deals. I figured Grossman was the starter. Open competition is what I'm being told right now."

I'm surprised Snyder didn't have a change of heart and snatch him back out of free agency for 5 years, $50 million.

I guess he'd rather trade a 2nd and 3rd rounder to the Bears in order to get him back. I wish Lloyd all the best whether in DC or Chicago next season.

Griese was horrible (worse than Grossman) last year. Orton is the unkown quantity so him and Grossman will compete for the starting job. As far as #3 QB, expect them to draft one early to groom behind these 2 bums.

Grossman was by far the worst QB in that mess in Chicago. Griese said some wrong things to the media, like how he called his own plays in the 2 minute drive against Philly that undermined and pissed off the coaches.

How about Chicago trades their second rounder, next year's first, and perhaps a later round pick for #28 to draft Flacco.

Then they will probably go 10-6 and we will get another low 20s draft pick like the other times we did that. :laugh2:

I saw a little bit of Chicago last year and more the year before. Griese wasn't as bad as Grossman IMO but they were both bad. One pathetically so and the other just not very good. Griese did have some moments. And I've followed him for some time. He's not that bad. At least once upon a time he wasn't. Hence, my question as to why he has gotten the heave ho everywhere he's gone esp when those places did not have a decent QB IMO. And I don't think Grossman was a decent QB their SB year. He was marginally adequate to put it nicely that year and marginally woeful last year. But it was mostly a rhetorical question as I don't really care. He would be a better backup than some others around the NFL IMO.
