Sorry if it's been addressed but can Carr play FS?

If Carr could play FS, which we did at the beginning of the year in 2012, it would open up the draft possibilities even more. Jason Verrett my guy out of TCU is a BEAST.

Question is, is Carr at FS better than Wilcox/Heath with an offseason to develop?

Jerry would get scolded if he went high on another CB. Besides, the line needs addressed first, not the secondary. I think they would look better with a competent line.

I honestly see them going haha Dix or kid from Louisville if they are there in the first. Both are gonna be good safeties. I know I know we need d line but I don't want to reach just for dline in the first and he a bust.

Im thinking get a really solid rush and Carrs better than servicable. If we can get a rush to where the QB has 3-4 seconds max on most downs and all 3rd downs, secondary's easy to fix, Im thinking spend your wad on the Dline (and Oline) for the most long term return on your investment as using wins as a measuring stick. To be honest with our rush, Sanders would have looked like crap and been cut in two years (thats if he hadn't already thrown his helmet at Jones and walked on over to the skins or eagirls). But Coach Johnson would never allow his team to fall this far in disrepair along either line, O or D. If you need a great secondary, you probably need a better pass rush. Period.

Even without adding a CB, if Claiborne, Scandrick and Carr are all healthy, then you could play Carr at Safety in against 2 WR sets in order to keep all three players on the field for all snaps. Carr could then move back to CB in the nickel with a LB coming out and a Safety coming in.

Can he? Yes

Should he...and at the price we are paying? Absolutely NOT.

I dont understand why people always bring up the same idea when a CB starts to play bad or has some bad games.

The Saftety & CB positions are not similar. They demand other skils and they demand other physical attributes.
Its like letting a RB play WR. Just because they both have to catch balls its not like they can change positions that easy.

This has happened but I'm not crazy about Carr as the FS. It's doable but I'd like more speed there.

Because it's what Rod Woodson, Jason Sehorn and I believe Aeneas Williams did at the end of their careers

I think Carr at least tackles well enough to play FS. BTW have read several scouts who thought Verrett was a top 10 pick if he was 6 foot tall. As it is he likely goes first round.

I personally never underestood taking your best corner and moving him to safety. Not at this age. Maybe to prolong his career in his 30's.

Carr ran a 4.43 forty. Something about him doesn't "look" fast, but one of his best games was covering DeSean Jackson.

I've grown to mistrust 40s even more as time as gone by. I get a good read on watching a player run. I can see how well they move in coverage as well as turn and run. Carr is no where near a true sub 4.5 guy. Not on the field. He's in the slow category for CBs IMO. I'll admit I didn't watch much film last year but I did the year before. Carr is really good at redirecting a player. And that's the way to play Jackson. He'll get frustrated if he can't get upfield and quit. You just can't press him and then let him get by you. He'll burn you.

Neither Carr or Claiborne have ever struck me as particularly fast.

Claiborne has some speed but he's not a burner. Unless Claiborne shows something this year then they have got not much on the outside. I like Oscan and I like Webb to develop as a slot guy sometimes outside guy, nickel/dime player. I don't know Moore that well and there's something about him that the coaches don't buy into.

We need to fix the front 7 first.

I think that will be the priority this year but they will do what they can in the secondary. It's just gonna likely take a back seat. If Johnson and Wilcox can help Church then S may be at least decent. If Claiborne shows something then maybe we can have decent outside play. We'll see.

And they all made the switch after injuries robbed them of speed. Carr is not in that boat.
