I've had people yelling at me because I said JaiB will be the green dot guy.

Just kidding. No one has yelled at me. Just wanted to see what it feels like to say that since people here do it all the time.

After he was drafted I read an article about him from one of his coaches. I became a believer after reading it. Wink Martindale coached him up in college at Michigan. It's rare for a college player to get coached up by a former NFL coach.

I'm slower to the Barham hype train than many others, but starting him is probably the right move unless he falls off a cliff over the next week. Overshown/Winters was always going to be an odd LB duo and having someone like Barham step up is giving this LB unit a chance to actually be good. Nothing against O or Winters either, it's just that neither of them do what Barham does. I still worry abou this ability to cover against another teams 1s, but at this point give him a shot. worst case hes probably a very good 2 down player.
 
I’m all about an enforcer but Overshown when healthy is a superstar type player. Winters looked awesome last season as well. Side line to side line…

It’s finally an awesome position to be in with a logjam. But we all know that logjam will get banged up as it’s a ferocious position.

In college, missing only two
He’s the opposite of **** you described.
 
One running play in particular against Az he penetrated the line turned to his right ran down the line to tackle the back at no gain .

And you also have to give credit to the DL for not getting blown off the line as has been the case with other DC’s. The DL is really helping the LB’s.

Hopefully your coverage worry(and mine) against 1s will reveal itself sooner rather than later and allow this new DC enough time to regulate a proper down and distance rotation with all 3.

I do kinda see him pigeonholed into a run fit linebacker role right now. A very effective, downhill line of scrimmage crowding guy but NOT one I want to see back pedaling against better tight ends and backs out in the flat.

If they were going to start him they probably wouldn't play him so much. If he isn't playing next preseason game or plays just a couple plays then yes maybe. He will get the plays they know he is good at and let him grow and learn more. His spot usually needs to be the green dot and not sure he is ready for that quite yet. Sure he is reacting quick and making good reads but he needs to perfect that before he starts telling others what is coming.

Exactly. The initial lineup requires Parker to rely on even more trickery and disguises to allow Overshown to be protected from offensive linemen climbing to the second level. Hiding your ILBs is not ideal, lol.

That being said, I thought, and still think, he’s probably a year away from being able to adapt to the speed of the game from a processing standpoint which is not a knock on Barham, it’s just a lot to ask of a rookie and read and react was not a strong point on his scouting report.

If Barham can get that together and handle the line calls and the green dot, look out.

I would play him early but keep him on a snap count. His physical style of play is going to cause a lot of damage to the other team and to himself.

Just like it is not a good idea to have a great RB run 30+ times a game and shorten their career.

Barham should be the tone-setter on early downs, with Overshown playing the WLB position where the line keeps him clean to run to the ball. Winters has shown himself to be good in coverage, so once we put an offense behind the sticks and a pass is likely, he should come in for Bam Bam. Eventually, Barham will probably be a three-down linebacker, but we don't need to rush it.

I don't think he has to green dot just because he's the MLB. Let Overshown make the calls and tell Barham who he needs to go hit.

Either way, this has the potential to be one of the best LBer rooms we have had in a long time.
