In response to Thursday's comments from Titans running back Chris Johnson regarding an ongoing desire to race record-setting sprinter Usain Bolt, a source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Bolt's representatives actively have been pushing the event.

Word of the race first emerged in early January, when ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Bolt's people and Johnson's people were working toward setting up a race for charity. (We suggest calling it the "Usain Bolt Chris Johnson Dunder Mifflin Sabre Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run Race For the Cure.") Within hours, however, Bolt's agent said "[t]here is no truth to the story," and that Bolt "doesn't follow the NFL too closely."

So it was odd that Johnson said Thursday that he plans to race Bolt next year. But, apparently, talks indeed have occurred and continue to occur, notwithstanding the denials of Bolt's agent, whose word on the matter was accepted as Gospel truth, possibly because agents have an impeccable reputation for honesty.

Per our source, the two sides have not been able to agree on a distance. Johnson presumably wants a shorter race, and Bolt wants a longer distance. The folks at NBC Olympics previously have determined that Bolt's 40-yard split from his world-record time in the 100-meter dash during the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing was "a hair slower" than Johnson's 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine.

In the 100 meter yes Bolt blows Johnson off the track. However is a shorter race Johnson could hold his own. Bolt is a long strider and it takes a bit for him to get to top speed

Bolt would have already filmed Cool Runnings 2 before Johnson crossed the finish line.

70 yard dash would be perfect. I still think Bolt would win.

Well lets see what they choose to do before I make the bet. Bolt in the 100 it is not a contest, in the 40 it becomes one. Bolt getting out of the blocks for the 1st 40 meters is not where he wins races most of the time he is fairly even with other runners after that point is where his long strides smokes the other runners.

This is a good clip to see what I'm talking about. Bolt is in lane 4. With the long legs he has it takes a bit longer for him to get up to speed but once he does it becomes no contest. In the 40 yes Johnson as well as a few other NFL players would stand a chance beyond 40 no

I would have to think for entertainment value, they'd have to do more than just one distance, wouldn't they?

All this hype for less than 5 seconds of actual action would kind of be a waste.

Bolt is a born sprinter though. To assume that because he has long strides it takes him a while, because you're comparing him to other world class sprinters, might be a little bit of a mistake.

I don't know you win the olympic medal in 9.96 sec. In track these guys run a race and then need time before their next race because of the stress they put on the hamstrings. As great of condition these guys are in the most common scene is seeing guys pulling up due to blown hamstrings

If its a 40 Johnson will win by a hair. It clearly states that he had a faster 40 time then Bolt in the article. Anything longer Bolt will easily win.

But even so, Bolt leaving the blocks would still be better then CJ leaving the blocks. Bolt does this for a living. His block skill is still above the top NFL'ers (even if they did run track).

ESPN estimates Bolt's time at 3.53 (that is what it averages out to). Of course the first 40 would be slower but not by much. still close to sub 4...It has to be close to sub 4 or he is running at an unreal speed the 2nd half/split.
