Would it shock anyone if the same starting five march out there for the first game of the season?

I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I expect it too. We'll bring in a few guys possibly some draft picks but the same starting 5 will more than likely be out there. Its hard to sell that to fans...I do think they will be better but i'm not sure that progress will prevent Romo from still getting killed.

Free will be gone by June of this year. There is a reason we didn't restructure him. And as far as I know, he hasn't been asked to take a pay cut yet either.

We are not going to trot out the same OL.

JJ/SJ has already said we're looking for a guy who can play OG/OC, either in FA or via the Draft.

Also, We are clearly bringing in draft picks like Warmack to VR in the next couple of weeks . . . .

If that happens, I will be convinced we are tanking the season to get Johnny football.

Calvin Watkins is a joke. Free won't be a Cowboy in 2013.

Exactly...Calvin Watkins is one of the worst Cowboys Insiders they have ever hired. He reports idiotic rumors that don't make sense and reports the obvious as if it's latebreaking news. I have no clue how he merged into ESPN. The guy sucks!

Why put out a report that a guy like Doug Free is safe for now just because the Cowboys have not released him in the first week of FA?

Doug Free's family and friends can probably could give Calvin a clue.

It is the worst kepy secret in football that you cannot lead the league in penalties, give up the most sacks and by the end of the year rotate plays with a guy who barely made the team. The gave him a chance this season when they switched him back to RT. Now the team can't trust him. Period.

Why does everyone know this but Calvin. And if does, why report something that may dispute what we all know to be the truth. Why?

Every year it seems like one or two players get a vocal group of ignoramuses calling for their heads on a spike.

If Free is let go, it's for cap purposes only and he'll be starting somewhere in the NFL in '13. Free graded out better than any other tackle on the team in '12 and wasn't the reason Dallas didn't make the playoffs.

I think early in the year especially, he had some plays where he just looked awful that were highlighted during the telecasts. Not keeping his hands on an edge rusher. Getting his feet crossed and falling down etc.

People fixated on that but I get what you are saying about Smith people ignored that he was pretty pedestrian and passed it off as his first time playing LT ever. Combine that with people looking for any excuse under the sun to hae on the interior guys and you get the perception.

We were pretty weak on all 5 line positions just some more than others.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Free is kept. You have comments from Jerry late in the season that "we aren't giving up on doug free". There was a thread earlier in the offseason suggesting the Cowboys had considered moving him to guard. Then there was Broaddus who presumably knows some people within the organization suggesting that Doug Free would stay.

I typically hate the expression but sometimes when there is smoke there is fire.

There may not be any benefit to cutting him but is there benefit to keeping him?

Right tackle would save $7 million if he's a post June 1 cut. If the Cowboys release Free and , the Cowboys would have $9 million more to play with under the league's $123 million salary cap.

However, a source said Free's status with the Cowboys, as of now, is secure.

Free took a step back in his development in 2012, but there is a belief that he can improve to give the Cowboys two solid tackles who can protect for the future.

Someone please tell me Jerry is just trolling here and is not actually serious.

The media knows Cowboys fans are dumb:

can't disagree there, think of all the stupid fans that spent most of last year defending Free and the rest of that putrid OL. :)
