If you guys think Parnell is the answer, man, I have tickets to Mars to sell you.

:banghead:
Look, nobody on the roster, and frankly nobody we can bring in are going to be "the answer" but it's about maximizing ability and bringing out the best in player's games.

Random story, I saw Doug Free at Winstar World Casino in Oklahoma last summer wandering around playing slot machines. I just thought it would be funny to mention in this thread.

Anybody else think having this:
Smith-Arkin-T. Fred-Leary-Parnell

Isn't an upgrade over last years??? Hell it can't be any worse

I don't think Arkin can be considered an upgrade because he hasn't shown that he's physically able to start in this league.

And as far as Leary goes, we're getting ahead of ourselves.

Starting either could definitely be worse than we've had it.

I like Parnell, but that lineup would absolutely scare me outside of Smith and Frederick, especially if we did it without quality competition for Parnell. And it would scare Romo, too.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves people. I think when Free finally comes down to the decision of taking a paycut or being jobless (obviously no team is going to want him), I think he'll want the $$$ and stay here riding the bench. Some money is better than no money, right?

I think someone would give Free a job thinking they can "fix" him. Happens all the time to worse players than Free. Hell, Alex Barron has a job right now. Not sure what the $ would be like compared to what we would restructure him at though.

1) I don't know if Free will be a Cowboy.
2) But, I do know Free will take a hefty paycut no matter where he goes.
3) And I highly doubt any team would offer more than the Cowboys at around $2M fo the upcoming season.

My advice to Free: save the moving expenses, better tax environment in TX, and swallow your pride. Take whatever Jerry Jones offers. Best you'll get.

Better be careful what you wish for. It might be the season to demonize Doug Free but there are worse tackles out there. There won't be many people if at all to disagree he gets paid more than he's worth but the immediate question is can he play well enough for the offense to work well enough to win the division. I don't know the answer about that for any of our tackles. In fact the only offensive lineman I have a good deal of faith in is Frederick and he's never played a down in the NFL. I think Smith will be better this year. I think Costa will compete for a starting job at C and G. And I think either Free or Parnell will be average to decent at RT; enough to get by. That's a lot of assuming.

Too bad he knows he's in the driver's seat and gets paid no matter what.

Does he have any guaranteed money this year?

I just assume we move on, but you're crazy if you think nobody will want Free.
He's bad, but not nearly as bad as some hear think.
I'm willing to bet he's playing in the NFL this year if you like.

For me though ,adios...and come on down, Clabo.

No. There will be dead-money, but that counts against the cap with or without him on the roster. Free does not receive any additional money if he is cut.

No guaranteed money, but he does have the money he already received as a signing bonus. That'll hurt our cap but won't give any new $$ to Free. So basically anyone who think "he'll be getting paid either way" is pretty much wrong.

His only leverage is that if we take a pay cut, it will lessen our cap charge against him and he'll still be on the team. It not only reduces his salary against the cap, but hopefully prevents the acceleration of the pro-rated bonus. After June one, it would be split over 2 years, but if he accepts the pay cut, then is would still spread out over the contract.

He was given 17 million guaranteed, so unfortunately he does. I think it's about 3 million left.

Someone with a shaky tackle situation will take him, hoping he can win the spot.

I doubt he gets more than a couple million at best to do it, though.

I believe if he is a June 1st cut, his dead money against the cap this year would be $3 mil and he would count the same amount of dead money against next year's cap. So essentially, we'd save $7 mil in cap space this year (minus whatever we pay his replacement) and be down $3 mil in cap space next year.

Considering 3 of those guys couldn't start over the current starters, I'd say it coud easily be worse
