Not really. We were in better shape than the Bears in that regard.

"Not really"?

4 of our top 6 projected DL entering training camp were out, all 3 starting LBs were out once Sean Lee went down, and Mo Claiborne was out.

Who was injured on the Bears offense? Cutler, but McCown's outplayed Cutler this year.

You are talking about off season injuries now? Give me a break. Carter and Lee played significant snaps in the Bears game. Mo Claiborne isn't even a starter here. You're kidding yourself dude.

We won't miss a beat defensively.

We got torched with him, were gonna get torched without him.

Who's bright idea was it to send him back into the game against the bears when it was obvious he was injured

Um, do offseason injuries not count or something? Have I been imagining the jumbled mess our DL has been since, oh, Week 1?

There isn't a coach in NFL history who could succeed with this cast of characters on D. ESPECIALLY when it's their first year with the team so they're learning a new scheme on top of the injuries.

But alas, blaming injuries isn't as fun as blaming the coaches.

Remember, Monte and Rod told us they didn't need any depth at DL. Do you remember that? If yes, keep reading. If not, beat yourself with a hammer.

With that out of the way, let's look at the "top 6" as you call them:

Ware- Older player who was banged up last year
Ratliff - Older player who has been banged up for 2 years.
Hatcher - Older player who has only been a full time starter for a season
Spencer - Only produced for 1 season
Crawford - Totally unproven role player coming into his second year
Bass - Dime a dozen player

So, we basically went into the offseason with a very old dline, and failed to add any depth because they "couldn't fit anyone else in the DL meetings". Now, Spencer Crawford and Ratliff go down on the first day of camp. Now we have a bunch of scrubs because the coaches said they didn't need anyone else.

Coaches are NEVER going to come out and say "our guys aren't good enough" before the season starts, so that point is useless.

You can call them a "very old D-line" if you want, but it doesn't make it true. There are tons of good DL around this league that are healthy and playing effectively well into their 30s. Ware, Hatcher, and Ratliff are not even close to being "over-the-hill", it just seems like it in hindsight AFTER they get hurt. Then AFTER they do get hurt, Captain Hindsight fans like yourself call out the coaches and front office for not predicting the injuries as if they were all inevitable. I think I'd rather use the hammer on your thick, empty skull, thank you very much. Were we NOT supposed to count on a Hall of Fame stud like Ware playing at a high level?

Ware was still a monster before he got hurt last year (and was a monster in camp this year), Spencer was a monster last year (we gave him another 1-year deal so he'd be motivated to do it again), Hatcher IS a monster this year, and every team in the NFL has youngsters they're developing with high hopes (Crawford/Bass). Crawford showed something last year and was slated to be our top backup DL, and maybe someone who could offset an injury to a starter. Hilarious that you're dismissing Crawford/Bass as nobodies when they didn't even get a chance to show what they could do this year.
