SPARQ Linebackers in the draft

Having to scheme to hide an inferior player is never a good thing.

At the end of the day you have to defend the field and the inferior athlete has to line up somewhere and have a coverage responsibility. If you can never have them play said inferior athlete in anything other than a short zone then that can be taken advantage of too. It stretches the rest of the coverage thin.

Really though there are some route combinations to take advantage of slow MIKEs like running clearouts for other players zones and running a wheel post or seam right at them. This notion that you can just scheme away all your players from being isolated is ignorant.

Oh and Jewell would not be playing in the nickel so playing nickel is a moot point. Teams still run on first and second downs particularly with unathletic defenders to exploit in coverage. You are basically conceding that Jewell would be a liability against the pass.

I'm not saying scheme to hide an inferior player, I'm saying in our scheme I don't see him matching up one on one in coverage.

He'll be asked to cover a zone, which he shown he's plenty capable of.

most of these lb are going to be overdrafted if not all
in fact if you are sitting there at #19 with no takes on a trade back
the realization that these guys are reaches might have Dallas pick completely different (safe) than people expect
like no lb or wr or guard
they may see a guy like Hurst who slid a bit as a bpa even though hes a 3t
you never know
they may wait to fill the lb situation with scraps
theyve done it for years

Probably so this year. With Smith and Edmunds likely being gone early, teams that really need a LB will likely overdraft them.

We'll see. IME, LBs are usually afterthoughts while teams reach for QBs, pass rushers, and WRs. The special guys like Kuechly or Shazier don't slip anywhere, but teams often aren't in a hurry to scoop up that second wave.

For all the people talking about "athletic liabilities" - Hitch wasn't exactly Brian Urlacher, he was a very mediocre athlete. But he was still a good player here.

Jewell is slower than Hitch, but his explosiveness numbers are about the same and his 3 cone and short shuttle are on an entirely different planet. I wouldn't rule him out strictly based on his Combine.

I wouldn't say he's slower. His combine 40 time was poor, but he had a solid pro day 40. Obviously those are generally a little faster, but if you average the 2 he's a mid 4.7 guy which is the same as Hitch.

Like Lee, his eyes will allow him to play much faster.

Jewell would be a fine pick in the 4th-5th, just like Hitchens. Cowboys had Hitchens graded as a 5th but they were afraid he wouldn't make it so they took him in the 4th instead of WR Street that couldn't play.

SPARQ stats are the reason this front office thought Byron Jones was an elite draft prospect coming out of UCONN.

The eye inthe sky(film) doesn't lie, especially playing teams filled with NFL bound players. Evans will be a player when its all said and done and if we miss out, he'll be one of many that fans will claim the front office whiffed on..

How is LVE a first round pick? I just don’t see it.

Mountain West defensive player of the year and Combine SPARQ champion for LBs. When you have that kind of athleticism and production, you tend to go early.

Not based on combine

Which combine stat did you cherry pick to draw that conclusion.

Not only does Poz have a faster 40, he has the much better vert and quite a few more BPs over Jewell.

Plus Poz won 2 Bednariks and 1 Butkus. Never mind more All American teams.

Not only the better athlete, he was the better football player to boot.

I was wrong. I looked again. He’s still not far off from poz. Especially three cone and SS. And the very was a 4 inch difference
